Guest guest
Hi and Welcome, I don't like Levoxyl and T3 only med they can stress your adrenals and from the looks of your cortisol test your might be low next you need to do a 4x's in a day Saliva test to see how your rhythm looks it needs to be highest I the morning going down lower by bedtime. And your T3 only meds can be the reason your SHBG is so high. And with them high levels it binds up your Testosterone so it's not working as good as it can be you can see this by your Free Testosterone levels. The E's you did are labs for women men nothing for men here is what you need tested Estradiol E2 do a Sensitive test for men from Quest labs #4021 the range is 13 to 53 best to be at about 20 pg/ml. Your Iron is low but your Ferritin is good I have low Ferritin and have been on Iron pills for a few yrs not I feel much better on them. I feel people like your self do much better on natural dessicated thyroid. I was on Armour but we can't get this now so most are using the brand Thyroid from Canada. http://www.erfa-sa.com/thyroid_usa.htm http://www.universaldrugstore.com/medications/Thyroid/60mg But if you try this make sure your Cortisol Saliva test is good if not get on some Cortef get your Adrenals supported then add the Thyroid. Here is a link on how I did this. http://forums.realthyroidhelp.com/viewtopic.php?f=5 & t=24 In this are some good links that help you track how your doing. My wife has Hashis and Endo's she was seeing that did not help her much keeping her on T4 only meds did RAI to kill her Thyroid she suffered 15 yrs on T4 only meds and seeing Endo's. About 5 yrs ago she found a Dr. that treats with natural dessicated thyroid now after all them yrs. she feels great. Do read this link. http://livingnetwork.co.za/hormones/adrenal-fatigue/ Co-Moderator Phil > From: jasrich <jasrich100@...> > Subject: Introduction and labs > > Date: Friday, April 23, 2010, 10:11 AM > Hi all, I'm 42 years old and I have > been struggling with thyroid issues for the past five years > - I have Hashis, Graves and . Guest guest
Hi Phil, I remember you from the STM site. I'll write more later because I've been on Armour and HC and it didn't work out well for me, at all, for a variety of reasons. For now though, does LabCorp have a comparable Estradiol test to Quest's? I prefer to use LabCorp. I'm going to try to get my endo to write the order tomorrow. Guest guest
Yes Labcorp has a Estradiol Sensitive test Estradiol, Sensitive Synonyms: E2 Estradiol-17-β Test Number: 140244 CPT Code: 82670 I talk to so many people I can't keep track but I hope this helps. Guest guest
Oh, sure, no problem, didn't expect you to remember me out of thousands of posts. Here are my saliva labs from last June (ZRT): Estradiol (saliva) 1.2 pg/ml 0.5-2.2 Progesterone (saliva) 22 pg/ml 12-100 Testosterone (saliva) 53 pg/ml 44-148 (Age Dependent) DHEAS (saliva) 2.0 ng/ml 2-23 (Age Dependent) Cortisol Morning (saliva) 5.1 ng/ml 3.7-9.5 Cortisol Noon (saliva) 1.5 ng/ml 1.2-3.0 Cortisol Evening (saliva) 0.7 ng/ml 0.6-1.9 Cortisol Night (saliva) 0.4 ng/ml 0.4-1.0 I know that they indicate AF. Here's my story. In 2007-2008, after four years of feeling increasingly bad on Synthroid, I tried to switch from Synthroid to Armour. When I found it to be too stimulating I continued to research and learned about AF on the STM site and NTH Adrenals group. I started Isocort and, when it didn't seem to be helping, switched to HC working my way up to 37.5mg + 1mg of prednisolone and being strongly encouraged to increase all along the way by the STM and NTH Adrenals mods. The most Armour that I was ever able to take was 120mg and I kept on increasing to the magic 3-5 grain mark that I was told everyone should be at for optimal health. During this 7-8 mos I felt awful with very bad gut symptoms, insomnia, anxiety, muscle and joint pain, etc. In the " good " column I lost almost 20 lbs without exercising (couldn't according to the mods on STM and NTH because of the AF) and my cholesterol dropped from 220 to 160 in three months. Unfortunately, what we didn't know at the time is that, in addition to Hashis, I also have Graves, or the Graves and Hashis are flip-sides of the same coin, no one knows for sure. The theory is that, in addition to being over-stimulated by the T3 in the Armour, my body's over-active immune system reacted to the proteins in the porcine glandular tissue and activated Graves antibodies which attacked my eyes, among other things. So, now, in addition to the typical hypo and hyper symptoms, I have thyroid eye disease to deal with too. In the spring of 2008 I switched back to synthetic thyroid meds, Levoxyl this time instead of Synthroid, and slowly weaned off of HC over six painful months that ended in October of 2008. In Feb. of 2009 I went to the Cleveland Clinic to be worked up and they did the Graves antibodies test and gave my bulgy eye problem a name. Naturally they had no suggestions to make about how to treat it but I learned more about Graves and thyroid eye disease on a few other groups and found out that it can be treated with anti-thyroid drugs (ATDs) like Tapazole which have an immunomodulating effect of reducing the Graves antibodies which has worked for me - ABs have come down from 265 to 63 with anything up to 129 being " normal. " Many people who take ATDs end up going hypo so those with good docs end up taking small doses of the ATDs and small doses of thyroid hormone to " add back " or " replace " the thyroid hormone while the ATDs do their work. That's what I have been doing for a year now. I was still feeling lousy on that protocol taking as much as 137mcg of Levo so I asked my doc to add slow-release T3. We started out at 5mcg last June and now we're up to 20mcg 2x/day + 112mcg of Levo + 5mg of Tapazole. As you can see from my most recent labs, my thyroid levels are pretty good on the combo - T3 had been stuck at around 3 for months until the last increase. I have found that I can tolerate the time-release T3 much better than I could ever tolerate Cytomel or Armour but I doubt that I am even close to optimized right now. Despite the decent looking thyroid labs, I feel lousy much of the time with lots of muscle and joints aches, especially in neck, shoulders, upper back, upper thighs (this is most recent), knees, hips, and feet, a super sensitive gut despite cutting out gluten, caffeine, alcohol, most dairy, soy and other processed foods, depression, anxiety, on and off urinary symptoms, swollen throat in the thyroid area, shortness of breath, especially during exercise and the day after, and, of course, insomnia such that I have to take meds to sleep every night (I was on Klonopin but weaned off of that too so now I'm taking a very low dose of Seroquel). I have little to no sex drive but my wife left me in the middle of all of this so I really don't care much about that right now but it is interesting to the extent that it is symptomatic of something. A few people on another group suggested getting the sex hormones tested and to check out Dr. Crissler which is what led me here. I'm currently living in SC but thinking of moving back to NW OH which is within driving distance of Dr. C in Lansing. I just called my endo's office today and asked him to add the Estradiol test to my the thyroid labs that I am supposed to have done. Another interesting data point is that my RT3 has been as high as 550 and as low as 200, most recently, without ever stopping T4 meds. That's about it. Sorry to everyone for the length. > > > > > > > From: jasrich <jasrich100@> > > > > Subject: Introduction and labs > > > > > > > > Date: Friday, April 23, 2010, 10:11 AM > > > > Hi all, I'm 42 years old and I have > > > > been struggling with thyroid issues for the past > > five years > > > > - I have Hashis, Graves and . Guest guest
Wow you have been down that dam road big time. I don't know who told you at STTM site to do so much Armour I allways told people to do what made them feel better. Sorry you had to go through all that crap. You do know you can't go by your Saliva labs for sex hormones they are never any good. Best to do blood labs. All the mods from STTM went to RTH I still do the Men's Only Thyroid but we can't talk about Adreanls there. http://forums.realthyroidhelp.com/ Dr. is the best here is a link to his forum you can post there just like you did here. http://www.musclechatroom.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=2 Co-Moderator Phil > From: jasrich <jasrich100@...> > Subject: Re: Introduction and labs > > Date: Monday, April 26, 2010, 3:07 PM > Oh, sure, no problem, didn't expect > you to remember me out of thousands of posts. Guest guest
Sorry, I started out on STTM but changed to RTM because that was right around the time that the forums moved. It was more the people on the NTH groups that were encouraging the 3 grains or more of Armour but mods on NTH and RTM were all for 20mgs of HC and up and it seemed like we were always being told that weren't on enough. I have a real problem with RTM and that prohibition against talking about adrenals is a good example of why because it makes no sense considering that no one is supposed to be even treating thyroid before considering and treating adrenals. Anyway, that's OT here so I'll leave it alone. I'm waiting to hear back from my endo to see whether he'll order the Estradiol for me. I'll read up on Dr. C's forum in the meantime, thanks for the link. All the mods from STTM went to RTH I still do the Men's Only Thyroid but we can't talk about Adreanls there. > http://forums.realthyroidhelp.com/ > Dr. is the best here is a link to his forum you can post there just like you did here. > http://www.musclechatroom.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=2 > Co-Moderator > Phil
Guest guest
IT was talking about Cortisol and Adrenals that did the forums in at STTM. She closed them because she was threatened with a law suit. Guest guest
Does Dr. C test and treat for thyroid and adrenals too? Would he be able to work with me with this anti-thyroid drug + T4 + T3 cocktail that I'm on? My endo wouldn't write the order to test my Estradiol so I'm going to need to find someone who will. I know that something is off because libido is very low and no night-time or morning wood anymore.
Guest guest
, Two weeks ago I went to see Dr. C. He diagnosed me with (potentially) adrenal fatigue. He put me on TRT and then he is going to run some tests one month from when I started (two weeks hence). Therefore, the answer is " Yes " to your question; he treats all of these problems (as far as I can tell). Guest guest
I am not sure how you what to do this you can order your own Estradiol Sensitive test from LEF. but you need to call them and tell them the number of the the test it's this. Estradiol, Sensitive Synonyms: E2 Estradiol-17-β Test Number: 140244 CPT Code: 82670 Here is a link to LEF testing site. http://www.lef.org/BloodTest/ Then if your to high you can buy Arimidex from the ADC or get some Liquidex or Indolplex/DIM. Just let me know what your levels come back at. Or yes see Dr. he us dam good at thyroid and Adrenals. Guest guest
Hi Phil, all, I got some lab results back today: Estradiol, Sensitive 7 (3-70) Vitamin D, 25-Hydroxy 83.8 (32-100) TSH 0.016 (0.450-4.500) FT4 1.39 (0.82-1.77) FT3 5.1 (2.0-4.4) Apparently I don't have an estrogen problem after all. Vitamin D is up from mid 50's so the 50,000IU/week that I have been taking is working along with getting outside more. FT4 has been pegged at 1.39 for the past few labs. FT3 has been headed up the past few labs and is now a little high so, along with the very low TSH I might need to ease back on the SRT3 that I'm taking - I have a call in to my endo about that. I made my appt with Dr. for next month and sent my questionnaire to him via e-mail today. Thanks, > > > > > > > From: jasrich <jasrich100@> > > > > Subject: Introduction and labs > > > > > > > > Date: Friday, April 23, 2010, 10:11 AM > > > > Hi all, I'm 42 years old and I have > > > > been struggling with thyroid issues for the past > > five years > > > > - I have Hashis, Graves and . Guest guest
I'm not taking anything to keep the E down other than 100mg of Resveratrol once/day and I haven't even been taking that regularly. Except for a few occasions lately, including last night coincidentally, I have not been getting night-time wood for the past several months. Maybe it has been longer but I didn't miss it until recently when I started following this group. I haven't had sex in a good long while (wife left me over a year ago) so I can't answer that question. > > > > > > > > > > > From: jasrich <jasrich100@> > > > > > > Subject: Introduction > > and labs > > > > > > > > > > > > Date: Friday, April 23, 2010, 10:11 AM > > > > > > Hi all, I'm 42 years old and I have > > > > > > been struggling with thyroid issues for > > the past > > > > five years > > > > > > - I have Hashis, Graves and . Guest guest
The best levels for Estradiol in men is about 20 pg/ml if you are to low this is just as bad as being to high. Estradiol is made from Testosterone some men that are very low on Testosterone have very low levels of Estradiol. Going on TRT beings them levels back up Shots work the best at this. Guest guest
What if my T isn't low? Would I still need TRT? These were my labs in March: Testosterone, Free Direct 11.0 (6.8-21.5) Testosterone, Serum 829 (28-800) Estrogens, Total 86 (40-115) Estrone, Serum 23 (12-72) IGF-1 205 (101-267) FSH 5.8 (1.5-12.4) LH 3.5 (1.7-8.6) Sex Horm Binding Glob 68.3 High (14.5-48.4) I assume that it would be better to see the sensitive E test done at the same time as the rest and I'm sure that Dr. will want to repeat these labs, but what might account for high T and low E? Guest guest
Hi ! It's Barb from the thyroid/adrenal group. Yep, I'm still trying to balance hormones but we're closing in on " optimal. " Glad to see you finally got your Free T3 up, but it may be too high? That would account for the high SHBG. Looks like you've got a testosterone conversion problem, cause you're producing a good total amount. Are you bald by any chance? All your testosterone could be going to DHT, which would explain your estrogen being low. DH has the opposite problem, his free T and estrogen were going too high, but I think it's possible that the nettle root he was taking may have been doing that so recently stopped it. I would get your DHT measured. Also interested in hearing of others' experience with nettle root.
