Take LDN same time every night?

Hello,

My mother will be going on LDN shortly for her MS. I'm confused about when she

is supposed to take it. Do you take it every night right before going to bed,

even if you go to bed at a different time every night? Or do you take it at the

same time every night, say, 9pm, even if you are not going to bed right away?

She usually goes to sleep by 11pm.

Thanks,

Charlene

Hi Charlene,

I’m sure all MSers on this site will agree with the “Bihari

protocol” ie take it at night will be most beneficial – that’s when it has its

optimum effect but those with other diseases may find it more beneficial re day

time dosing.

Best,

Jayne

Hi Jayne,

This idea that there is an optmal effect with bedtime dosing contributes to the

confusion such as experienced. The way LDN works is to provide the same

beneficial effects any time it is taken, as long as the dose is appropriate and

it is taken no more frequently than every 24 hours.

There are no studies showing that nighttime dosing is best. There are many

studies showing that dosing is not dependent on time of day and the idea that

endorphins are produced only in the wee hours is simply in error. Endorphins

are produced and released any time their production is induced and they are

required by bodily demands.

-Charlene,

LDN works best for me and some others, if taken at around the same time every

night.

Many opinions and no real answers. I believe it is important to take LDN at

Bedtime. I believe this works wherever you are in the world and thatever your

workshift is. There are some pretty knowledeable people on this group who

specify some specific clock times. I rely on the " bedtime " rule as it seems

consistent with the theories on how LDN works and how endorphin levels are

affected by our sleep cycle (i.e., my body doesn't care about where I am on

earth).

If I were she, I’d take it just before going to bed, whenever that

is. For me, it begins to work very quickly after taking it. I start to feel

groggy and like I want/need to go to sleep. I need to be in bed when that

happens or else my muscles begin to tighten and I start to get tense, irritable.

But it certainly helps (to go to bed directly after taking it).

See my other post about this.

I simply cannot stay up after taking it; it works quickly and I

feel bad effects – muscle tightness, irritability -- if I don’t just go to bed.

I don’t imagine I’m the only one who reacts like that.

n,

You get tired and groggy because your opioid receptors are being blocked.

So for you, as long as you stay asleep throughout the blockade and/or the

rebound doesn't wake you, nighttime dosing IS great for you. Sometimes

a person's chemistry is not suited for bed time dosing.

I take it Midnight-1am every day. I worked 12-8am most of the time I've been on LDN, waking up 11:30PM to start 'my day' and I took LDN 12:30ish those days.

When I am on 'days' or any other hours, I take the LDN between Midnight and 1am.

It's either the 'middle' of my day or the 'beginning', mostly. There was a stretch where I was taking it at 10pm and going to sleep... back in 2006 for a time.

I recognize that not everyone should necessarily take it at

night.

Charlene was asking what time of night her mother should

take it if she goes to bed at different times on different nights.

n are you saying then that very early

effects of the blockade are an increase in tightness and irritability?

And Jaco can you describe what are some

of the effects of the blockade and/or rebound then? Is the rebound what happens

after the blockade stops and the endorphins are released or generated?

I take mine between 10 pm and 2 am to avoid loosing effectivenes because too early or too late to effectively blockade.

Perhaps for simplicity's sake,(and since we are creatures of habit), it might be easiest to have your Mother take it at the same time each night say 9 or 10 PM? It will then become a habit for either her to take it, or for you if you are administering it......Just a suggestion :)Jeanne A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above. See yours in just 2 easy steps!

I have been taking LDN for over four years.

During that time I have always taken it between the recommended hours of

9pm-3am. First couple of weeks very minor sleep disturbance. Nothing to get

hysterical about. The important thing to me was treating my multiple sclerosis,

halting disease progression and symptom improvement.

In the beginning I would take it around 9-9:30pm, then I moved up to 10pm,

another move to 10:30pm, until finally arriving at my current time of 11:45pm.

My hope has been to have the naltrexone in my system at the key time for the

endorphin blockade, which is 2am-4am.

In all those dosing time periods I have tried I have never experienced the

side-effects I read about from the some of the people here. To me they sound

almost bizarre, as if some other medication is being taken and not LDN. Of

course the paranoid side of me makes me think something else is going on. It's

almost as if these reports are meant to turn others off from trying LDN. Big

pharma reps in the house? NMSS moles here? I guess different meds react

differently with different people, but I am still surprised and leery.

All I know is I have had MS for 19 years. I have tried most of the FDA-approved

meds for MS, Avonex, Copaxone, Novantrone, Solumedrol, oral Prednisone,

Bacolfen, Provigil, Amantadine, Wellburtin etc etc etc. I was about to start

Tysabri then it started killing people and was pulled from the market. You want

bad side-effects from drugs that do nothing to help your disease but make you

sicker just help yourself to that menu of expensive, dangerous, ineffective

medications. I'll take LDN.

Art

I wish I had found LDN sooner, I wouldn't be dealing with the neurological

damage I now have.

Hi,

Thanks everyone for your responses. I'm still a bit confused, though. I should

have been more specific with my question:

My mother plans to take the LDN at night, every night. She does not currently

go to bed at the same time every night, and I keep hearing that the LDN should

be taken right before going to bed. If she takes it at 9pm right before bed one

night and 10pm right before bed the next, and maybe sometimes at 11pm if she's

up particularly late, will that make it less effective? In other words, should

she start going to bed at the same time every night so as to take the LDN at the

same time every night?

For those of you with MS who take it at night, do you take it at the same exact

time no matter what, or is it okay as long as it's within a range of a few

hours?

Thanks,

Charlene

Hi Charlene

My husband has been taking LDN for MS, for four years. He takes it at all

different times (around when he goes to bed) and has never noticed any

difference to how he feels.

It`s usually around 10p.m but can be a half an hour earlier or up to midnight

depending on what we`re doing or if we`re out.

In his case (I can only speak for him of course) it hasnt made any difference to

his health as he has not had any disease progression for the whole four years.

I wouldnt worry too much about the timing - I know some people say they have

experimented with times and prefer to take it at the same time each night, but

in our case, it hasnt mattered at all.

Good luck to your mother!

Nowadays I've been taking my LDN between 2330 and 0030. My cell alarm goes off at midnight.

I would say for the best results, take it after 10pm any given night and you can't go wrong.

If it's easiest to take it the exact same minute each night, make it 10pm or 11pm.

If she goes to bed one night earlier, it's ok... people say don't take any more than one in 24 hours.... but the window is still the same.... 20 hours one day, 28 hours later, 20 hours... don't really matter from what I can tell in 6 years

I've had runs where I had to get to sleep early, so I took it before I went to sleep. If I'm involved in something, it may be closer to 2.

LDN has nothing to do with going to bed for the most part, it's just laypeople to Understand better.

-Charlene,

What works for me, is taking LDN at about the same time every night, even if

I go to bed later. Sometimes, an hour or two, before I actually go to bed.

If you're going to use Dr. Bihari's protocol, which is what I recommend, LDN is

to be taken ANYWHERE between the hours of 9pm and 3am every night, not

necessarily right before bed.

You do NOT have to be IN bed to take LDN.

I think it is a good idea to take LDN around the same time every night. I take

mine at 11:45pm every night. I found changing the dosing times screwed me up a

bit the next day. Better to be consistent.

go to bed at the same time every night, and I keep hearing that the LDN should

be taken right before going to bed. If she takes it at 9pm right before bed one

night and 10pm right before bed the next, and maybe sometimes at 11pm if she's

up particularly late, will that make it less effective? In other words, should

she start going to bed at the same time every night so as to take the LDN at the

same time every night?

For over five years I've take mine whenever I think of it, which could

be anywhere from 9.30pm till 3am (usually go to bed about 4am) and still

seems to be working.

I agree with Art and I take my LDN every night at around 10pm and usually don't go to bed till 12-1am. I've been taking LDN now for 3 yrs and 6 months.
