Guest guest
For those who have big problems with your feet, ankles, toes - it can be hard not to overdo and equally hard not to just sit and veg out all the time. Here is a technique that has helped me: Get a cheap timer. Set the timer for 15-30 minutes, whatever works best for you. Do tasks that require standing/walking until the timer goes off. Then sit down and do tasks that you can do while seated - or take a 15 minute break and do something fun that you can do while seated. When the timer goes off agan, return to the standing/walking task. Alternate this way throughout the day. You will accomplish more than you ever thought possible, while not overtaxing your feet. I use 15 minute increments. I might set the timer for 15, and begin to unload the dishwasher. When it dings, I reset it and go read this group's mail for 15 minutes. When it dings, I reset it and finish unloading the dishwasher and start a load of laundry. When it dings, I reset it and sit down and write thank-you notes for 15 minutes. Etc. All day long! My family thinks it hysterically funny. Oh well... I even use the same technique for exercise, which I've finally slowly started back on. I set the timer for 15 minutes and walk slowly and carefully (so far) on the treadmill. When it dings, I reset it and do 15 minutes of upper body exercise with low weights. Then another 15 minutes of walking, then 15 minutes of leg raises and crunches or other lying-down lower body stuff. Each time, using the timer to keep track. If anyone tries this technique, let me know how it goes for you! best regards, sherry z
