Bactrim for Lyme

Hi Val,

I was on double strength bactrim for a bad upper respiratory infection. It

seemed to help the Lyme, so I stayed on it for a while. then went back to my

Zithromax. That is the one that keeps me stable and able to function.

I will never give them up. MY slowness in getting well is so minute that

sometimes I don't even know it is happenng. I keep a daily chart and it helps

me keep track of when the herx'x were coming or almost there. I think since

there are so many different strains, it is going to be as long time before we

know if we are taking the right abx.

I just know that I will take them as long as I can. I can't function without

them, I am the insurance earner and have to be able to keep my job for now.

hang in there, use a calender type log or I use those small daily planners and

keep track of everything. It is amazing how they help.

HI Connie, what amount of bactrim were you on (in terms of Miligrams and such)

I read a study that took place in Europe that had patients on a combination of

Bactrim and Roxythromicin or another macrolide antibiotic. 76% of the

participants were cured of all symptoms. The article never specified amounts

of bactrim though so I was wondering how much would be needed to help. Maby

you could combine your Zithromax with it. It might just help. Supposedly the

two drugs together caused a synergistic effect which helped kill the

spirochete. the article also explained that the bactrim was able to reduce the

motility rate of the spirochete allowing the immune system and the other

antibiotics to kill it easier. Anyway it is just another thought. Hope you are

Hi Val,

I think the DS or double strength is 500mgs. I tried to take my Zithromax

with it, but I have yeast from head to toe if I overdose on abx. Sometimes I

think I get yeast when I touch the bottle. I do think the combination worked

great, but my battle to keep ahead of the yeast keeps me from doing double

abx. I used to do it all the time, when he gave me stuff for URI, i

continued my Lyme abx. But now I can't. I eat no sugar, fruit, bread,

starches. Do the acidophilus, diflucan, lomotil, everything to keep clear.

So i don't fool with double abx anymore.

Thanks for your concern. I surely do think the combo helped, I seem to

improve a little faster after that and the daily 600 mgs of Zithromax a day

keeps me going.

select drugs, including mino and bactrim

also if youre concerned about ( or have reaction to the sulfa part) you can get

the same drug but without the sulfa part called: Trimpex (trimethoprim) . Ive

seen several references where its main use is for suspected babesia

infection...some LLMDs like to treat the co-infections sequentially and before

treating the Lyme, others try combos to target multiple organisms at once.

Matter of style and habit. Ive seen a LOT of references with using Bactrim with

a macrolide ( Zithro , biaxin, i.e.) and even with Zithro and Mepron ( a

particularly strong drug thats usually used as anti-protozoal which is what

Babesia is believed to be)
