It’s

like withdrawals from tylenol & other NSAIDs. If you take them too much,

you get a headache when you miss a dose.

Same thing happens with sinus meds. If you use nose drops for sinus for longer than a few days when you stop your sinuses rebound & you can't breathe thru' your nose. You've got to be careful even with OTC remedies.

Hey folks

I've been working with a 10 year old girl for about 50 days (1 X a week). I

saw her last year, but Mom discontinued sessions when Strattera (ugh) seemed

to solve the school situation. She's lost a good deal of weight, and it

appears that Strattera may have actually precipitated a hint of OCD

regarding homework ( I do recall a hint of midline overarousal in the

assessment). Mom brought her back to me mostly because she still has no

real friends, and children shun her at recess etc., and when she comes home

every day, she says " I'm just so angry " !

One MAJOR complaint is migraine-like headaches which incapacitate her (or at

least Mom says so). Apparently Tylenol and bedrest for a day usually

resolves them. She had 4 in April, 2 in May, 4 in June, 3 in July, 1 in

August, and 4 in September. September is relevant because of NFB. Of the 4

in September 3 were the day following a session, and 1 was 8 hours following

a session. I've done nothing except right-sided windowed squashes 2-9 down

and 15-38 down, usually at C4, referenced to A2 (just to get her back into

doing NFB).

For the past 2 weeks, I've also had her in a group therapy session I do.

She is oppositional, controlling, and her energies are all over the place

(she often appears to be " mean spirited " ). I don't have her assessment

here, but as I recall, she has hi-beta everywhere. The question I'm

wrestling with right now is whether or not the windowed squash could have

cased a rebound headache (as much as a day later), or is it her own body

trying to give her some down time ??.... OR ????

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I remember one of the most important lessons I learned during my Atlanta years

when working with anything and everything that came through the door, learned

from von Hilsheimer, was:

If a behavior or response is common in a client BEFORE they begin doing NF, you

can neither take credit nor blame for it.

So it's probably presumptuous to believe that a child who has 4 migraines a

month having 4 migraines in a month when you do NF (only once a week) is having

those headaches " caused " by the training.

I recognize that this is not your primary concern however. The real question

is, " what do I do to get POSITIVE results and perhaps diminish the headaches? "

Without a bit more information about the assessment, it's pretty hard to say

much, since you have essentially been doing a C4 SMR protocol, which would be an

option if you had no assessment to look at. Migraines often relate more to

temporal lobe issues. The anger could well relate to excessive RF fast

activity. And there may well be quite a bit of very fast activity at Fz, as you

suggested. My inclination, if I wanted to get someone started with NF, would be

to try the things that seem most probably related to the problem from the

assessment and see if they had any effect.

  • 2 years later...

I just wanted to update my rebound headache post from November to say

that I quit all medicines, both over the counter and prescriptions

(except sulfasalazine & depression medicine). I also quit caffeine

and my headaches went away. The main culprits were tylenol, fiorinal

and caffine. My head hurt like the devil for a few days and gradually

the headaches went away.

I still get some pain (headaches, joint pain and back pain) but I've

been using heat and ice with no drugs. The headaches aren't so bad

and go away quickly but the hands and back are harder to cope with.

Sulfasalazine was great after about 6 weeks as I quit using medicated

shampoo for 2 weeks for the first time in 30 years and had a few days

that I almost forgot about arthritis. Now after about 10 weeks, I've

regressed and there are more bad days for the skin and joints.

My knee, elbow and shoulder which have never been issues are all

starting to hurt. These pains are not severe but I'm scared with each

new one. Every time I think I'm getting used to my new limitations

with pain and fatigue, something changes and I'm in a tailspin all

over again.

I turned 40 on Monday and I find it difficult to fantasize with my

wife about the day my 3 boys are grown up. I used to imagine being

retired and traveling. Now I imagine she will be pushing me in my

wheel chair to Dr appointments.

I've started a journal of everything I consume daily and my pain

levels. Maybe there will be a miracle and I will figure out that

eating broccli triggers my pain so I can cut that out and be cured. :)

Happy Holidays,

Harry
