Guest guest
I can just imagine hearing about that.... I would be sending in recipes for natural cleaners.. LOL We are here for a short time and if a clean house is what people judge me on, so be it.. I actually have this friend who keeps a set of 12 get well cards on her shelf, she has up about 3 at once and changes them around so when friends visit they think she has been sick and cant clean... LOL She is also pretty ill and she has a killer sense of humor.. Well if you need a spare bed until you find a place in Australia I can help.. Guest guest
Hi Heidi, that is a good idea lol but what I do for real is buy several get well cards at a time, and I don't know who I am buying them for. Then I usually see someone online who is inpatient or very sick at home and send them a card. It seems to be the only way I get around to sending a card. I also have free cards from assorted charities. Some I donate to and some I don't. I feel free to use these cards I use them as thinking of you, get well etc. some are blank, some say stuff. I have a couple of sets of Christmas cards as well from the charities. I will probably use those even tho I bought a small box of 18 for my closest friends. Guest guest
If I ever make it to your part of Australia we'll have to 'do lunch.' LOL My Lakota brother was there for for at least 6 months about 18 months ago now. He was blown away by the Great Barrier Reef. He spent as much time as he could with the ocean. I DID learn a lot about natural cleansers and what to use for what. I'm hoping that Santa Claus will bring me a spot-bot. A spot cleaning machine for carpet spots. With 2 dogs in the house, I constantly have things to clean up. I love your friend with the get well cards sense of humor. LOL. That's great. ; ) Willow --- Dungeon Miztrezz <heidijaye2@...> wrote: > I can just imagine hearing about that.... > I would be sending in recipes for natural cleaners.. > LOL > We are here for a short time and if a clean house is > what people judge me on, so be it.. > I actually have this friend who keeps a set of 12 > get well cards on her shelf, she has up about 3 at > once and changes them around so when friends visit > they think she has been sick and cant clean... Guest guest
Willow, We will definitely have to do lunch if you make it here... I have never been to the Great Barrier Reef I must admit but I would love to go one day.. I love snorkelling but have not done it for years (maybe 15 years) so I dont know if I could even do it anymore... I actually use anti bacterial soap when washing my body and my hair... I have golden staph and I am always coming up in boils and infections... I have a rash and lump in my neck at the moment.. The doctor suggested to use the anti bacterial soap and to microwave my loofah after each use and that has cut down on the infection.. On the other hand, we use bleaches, etc on the floor because of disease and we have a dog, but when cleaning windows and things I dont come into contact with too much we use natural cleaners.. I have to be really careful so I dont pick up anything, we had a rat in the cupboard and I was cleaning up the droppings and contracted leptospirosis, which you get from rat droppings... Anyone with a good immune system it would not affect but someone with a shot immune system like myself it is like a red rag to a bull.. I hope you get your spot bot, that would be great if you got it... That would make life a lot easier.. Yes my friend has a good sense of humor... Guest guest
I can remember when I was at my worst healthwise and moneywise. The government says that most people are one or two paychecks away from bankruptcy. We kept our household running for the 4 years it took me to get through the disabiity process. We liquidated everything - our retirement, our savings, cash value of insurance policies - and sometimes there just wasn't money to buy the food or medicine that we needed. My church helped a little bit. The food pantry had not been used in so long that people had stopped giving to it and much of what was there was stuff that other people couldn't stand like diet foods plus cranberry sauce, canned pumpkin - holiday stuff. It taught me that when I give, I give my best. When someone is that down, they don't need a skinny can of diet anything. I tried to teach that church that just because we had a mission in the poor part of town doesn't mean that there weren't people in our upper middle class church that needed help. The church gave me $100 to buy Christmas for , but we had to use it to pay the light bill. When I got to the church to sing in the Christmas Eve service, there were 10-12 bags of decent groceries plus a gift for each of us hidden under the table in the entranceway and a whole host of people to put stuff in my car. One thing that I enjoyed more than anything was where someone had saved all the little shampoos and lotions from their travels. I am a bath and body product fiend. I love aromatherapy. The bag full of those mini soaps and shampoos and lotions was a treasure trove for me. It taught me that really appreciated things didn't have to cost a lot of money. If everything happens for a reason, my illness is a great teacher. ; ) Willow --- Dungeon Miztrezz <heidijaye2@...> wrote: > Hi , > That is lovely what you do.. > I actually sent out a couple of cards last week to > sick friends.. > I also have a friend who is going through cancer at > the moment, so I sent her a little pamper package.. > I could not afford much, money is tight at the > moment, but sometimes the littlest things mean the > most.. > Love Always > Heidi > > DUNGEON MIZTREZZ aka Heidi > www.geocities.com/heidijayesplace/ > http://blog.360./kookaburradezigns > Look, Listen, but most of all Believe. > +=<^^>=++=<^^>=++=<^^>=++=<^^>=+ > Re: Hi from a new member > > > > > Hi Heidi, > that is a good idea lol but what I do for real is > buy several get well cards at a time, and I don't > know who I am buying them for. Guest guest
A friend of mine from pharmacy school has had chronic staph since we were in school and his health had deteriorated the last time I spoke to him to the point where he was active Hepatitis C. Apparently my ex hubby was a stept carrier in his first marriage. His 2 older kids were always getting strept throat from him. I clean enough to be healthy. I can only be out of bed for about 4 hours a day without putting myself down for days. Sometimes even with just the 4 hours up I overdo something and end up in bed for days. Sometimes a low pressure front or rainy weather just knocks me on my behind. Since it's only me and my animals here we're fine. ; ) Willow --- Dungeon Miztrezz <heidijaye2@...> wrote: > Willow, > We will definitely have to do lunch if you make it > here... > I have never been to the Great Barrier Reef I must > admit but I would love to go one day.. Guest guest
We are actually considering bankruptcy... We will wait until after Christmas though to see what happens.... I have had to go to the Salvation Army a couple of times for help with medication expenses and food.. They have been great... That is so true.. They give the not so favourable stuff... I make small donations to various charities through the year when I can, it is usually financial, but sometimes I take blankets and food and hold food drives to take to the less fortunate.. Willow you are so right, my illness is a teacher too.. I got tears in my eyes when I read what the church had done for you... That shows true beauty of the human spiriti... Guest guest
Willow, I did not know that Golden Staph can turn into Hep... My friend had Hep C from her boyfriend.. He had picked it up from when he was young and sharing needles when he was using... Yes I sleep about 18 hours a day.. I sleep 10 hours in bed and have several naps during the day on the lounge... I have my laptop there and will download my email and then will lay down for half an hour and sleep and continue with the email and so forth.. I mainly use the web for looking up health related information because I get a lot of information in email from the groups I am on... Sounds like you really suffer badly... We have a thunderstorm and expected hail this afternoon, it is raining at the moment and I am flaring.. I took some ibuprofen and paracetamol and that eased it a little bit... Hope you are not too bad today... Guest guest
Hi Willow I remember those days....I would manage to find something to put in the pot, or if I were making some home made buns would give some to someone else, or if someone were sick I would help them all I could. It does come back to you ten fold and when you need it most. When I was really bad with my epilepsy, 5 small children (which I can't remember raising now for the life of me)and a 'happy' drunk hubby we had no $ for specialties just the bare necessities. A lot of $ was spent on trips to the city (2hr away) for my medical appointments, plus a 5yr old son who had leuchemia. There was one day though that my hubby came to his senses and got me help from a decent doctor/neurologist. One that listened. Then when it came to us that we could cut our costs even more by gradually going off the drugs, less trips spent to the city and in hospitals, the possibility of maybe a job for me in the future my hubby was ready to sell everything we did own to get me help. We weren't getting anywhere the way we were except further down, and if there was a way why not go for it. Giving to others will come back to you when you need it most for sure plus you get the good feeling that goes along with it when you do give and help others. Take care all and have a healthy happy Christmas season with your friends and family. epilepsyhealth@... http://www.2betrhealth.com - Epilepsy juliehope@... http://www.4betrhealth.com - Arthritis highwaytosuccess@... http://www.menieres-disease.ca - Menieres > > > Hi , > > That is lovely what you do.. > > I actually sent out a couple of cards last week to > > sick friends.. > > I also have a friend who is going through cancer at > > the moment, so I sent her a little pamper package.. > > I could not afford much, money is tight at the > > moment, but sometimes the littlest things mean the > > most.. > > Love Always > > Heidi > > > > DUNGEON MIZTREZZ aka Heidi > > www.geocities.com/heidijayesplace/ > > http://blog.360./kookaburradezigns > > Look, Listen, but most of all Believe. > > +=<^^>=++=<^^>=++=<^^>=++=<^^>=+ > > Re: Hi from a new member > > > > > > > > > > Hi Heidi, > > that is a good idea lol but what I do for real is > > buy several get well cards at a time, and I don't > > know who I am buying them for. Guest guest
Tee, Hello and welcome to the group. I am sorry you are experiencing all the problems you are with your back. I think you will find there are many members here who have travelled a similar road and will be able to support you as you go through this. Your description of your currnet body sounds a lot like flatback, and/or the usual constellation of symptoms that seem to crop up as the dics below the fusion take a beating and accelerate the normal aging process. I particularly am symathetic to your leg pain...and in fact when the symptoms first started cropping up I actually never considered my back was the source of them....I really thought my hips were " going " . My local ortho didn't reallyou may have already didn't know anything....he hemmed and hawed and gave the " live with it " answer and that is when I started an ernest seach on the internet and stumbled into a flatback site. Geez. The minute I read it I knew it was me. You may already know....but the sciatic nerve root up in the lumbar spine (L5-S1) is where the nerve exits to the leg. If it is compromised, squeezed etc. you can get referred pain down the buttock, hip...all the way to your toes. I ended up with a " hot " pain stabbing in the buttock whenever I walked or stood for any length of time. My flatback was present at 6-10 degrees, I was still able to compensate mostly by bending/dipping at the knee. I was lucky that the pain was resolved through surgery, but that in itself has brought other challenges. our I never experienced digestive troubles, however if you are taking any medications to control your pain you could check with your doctor to see if they might be the source of your problem. I did gain weight in the months leading up to surgery, but I chalked that up to my becoming more and more bed/couch bound and not lowering my caloric intake. And I was approaching those lovely memopause years! Anyway, I know we have a number of members in Canada in your area and I know they will fill you in. Alternatively you can use the search feature and if you type in words like canada or toronto or ontario I know you will find a lot of posts from those that have " gone before " . Anyway...welcome aboard! Take Care, Cam
Guest guest
Hi Cam; Thanks for the quick reply! You know, I have a friend in one of my groups who just had a spinal fusion and when he posted, I saw that he was in a spinal support group and I just started searching and found this group.......I never even heard of flat back or anything else remotely like it until last night. I was floored! I read about this group and joined right away. thinks I might have a case of sciatica also, but I told him, "Then my pain tolerancy must be even higher than I thought"......but the left leg where I have the spasms has been happening all my life, only now getting worse, especially if I've been walking too much, and when I stand that's the leg I lean on as it's the shorter of the two. A doc once told me a couple years ago that I need to stop using it so much or start using a cane. I haven't a clue how to use one, and my mother tried to show me and I tripped over the darn thing. It's way harder to use a cane than it looks, that's for sure. The only meds I'm on on a regular basis is lorazepam for severe panic attacks. I rarely take any pain meds except for when I have a migraine. 's really good for rubbing my back every night when we sit and watch TV. Here in Ontario where I live, I can't have physio therapy unless I'm an inpatient. I stood there the one day even holding a doc's note saying I needed PT because the mid to upper muscles in my back are deteriorating, and I got turned away! Sheesh! I'm about ready to go into our hospital (we live in a teeny town called Exeter) in my pajamas and say, "Here I am, I'm an inpatient, so you can take me now!" LOL Seriously though, our health care system stinks, and I've heard through my disability groups that it's only getting worse. I'm at the beginning of the peri menopausal stage now, and I'd heard that scoliosis can bring it on early. Thanks again for the warm welcome Cam! Guest guest
Hi Tee I'm from Ontario as well. I can help you with a few names of docs in the Toronto area. I just had a consult with Dr. at Toronto Western. I'm planning on getting a second opinion with Dr. Ford who I think is at Sunnybrook. One of our members, Elaine W. just had surgery with him so you can watch for her updates. There is also Dr. Dana in Mississauga who I've heard of from this website. You should get your family doctor to refer you soon because there is usually a wait to get in (for me it was 6 months). I'm from the Kingston area. I've heard of Exeter but I'm not sure where it is in Ontario. Good luck in your search for answers. You will find lots of info on this site. I could really relate to a lot of your symptoms, especially the achy back muscles and poor sleeps, thrashing etc. [ ] Hi From A New Member Hi everyone; Just thought I'd pop in and introduce myself. My name is Tee, and I'm a 41 year old happily married for almost 10 years to a wonderful man. I was born with congenital scoliosis, but also born with a mild form of spina bifida. When I was 6 years old (1972) I had both the Herrington rod and a laminectomy done. I only just had the Herrington rod removed in December 2000. Thing is, that now, more and more, I'm having a REALLY hard time sitting up and find myself nearly falling over to the right and I'm exhausted all the time! My back muscles are achy all the time now and the only time I feel relief is when I lay down, especially flat on my back. My sleep is poor all the time because I just can't seem to get comfortable. My hubby says I thrash all night long. I also get what I call "leg spasms" in my left leg (the short one)and they drive me nuts. It kind of feels like white hot electrical currents running all the way down my leg into my foot. I also am discovering that my right hip (the one that sticks out) is constantly aching and burning and it feels like it's out of alignment for lack of a better term. I could go on, but don't want to bore you all with too many details LOL. I do have one question though...... does anyone here suffer with digestive problems and abdominal weight gain? 5 years ago, I used to be 4'11" and weighed 90 lbs, but now I'm only 4'10" and weigh 116lbs and all that is just in the abdominal region! I've a colonoscopy and endoscopy done, but they found nothing wrong, and could only come up with irritable bowel syndrome. I'm having a really hard time believing this........ I'm also starting to suffer with extreme migraines that last for an average of 4 days, and before this, I've never had them. Anyway, I also live in Ontario, Canada, so I'm hoping there are people here who can help me that also live in Ontario as I can't go to the states to see a doc. But any help from anyone here is so very much appreciated! Thanks for having me in your group, and I hope to get to know everyone soon! God bless! Guest guest
I've been making my own body sprays, soaps and lotions for several years, and even manage to sell some of my wares from time to time. Then next steps for me will be to use only organic oils, tinctures, absolutes, soap bases etc., and to experiment with the large pile of pesticide-free Witch Hazel Andrine Olson has so generously donated. > Wendina (aka: girlweena) > yay, girlweena! a super-hero! i am new to the Natural Perfumery group too, but wanted to welcome you and applaud you on your move towards organics - i think it is a great move and something i am doing as well. it feels marvelous to hand someone a lip balm or solid perfume with the confidence that you are giving them something non-toxic at the very least, certainly pleasurable and most likely, even *healthy*. in my experience, it doesn't get better than that! everyone here has been great, and the educational resources are extensive, so enjoy. cecile

Guest guest
Hi Wendina, Welcome to our group! So many nice people here, and so much knowledge! You'll like it here. >Though this skill is ideal for perfume making, it's not so desirable when confronted with something I'm sensitive to or that simply smells bad. Yick! I know what you mean! I just had some kind of stomach flu, with nausea and vomiting, and then I can't stand any smells. and least of all food-smells. We live in an appartment, so there are some food smells of neighbours cooking lingering in the hallways. When I'm ill, I just can 't leave our appartment because those smells overpower me then and make me more nauseaus. My dearest husband can't even cook for himself and our kids then, because I really can't stand anything. They have to resort to eat sandwiches without smell, or eat out. This is definitely a downside of a sensitive nose. Love, Saskia From Belgium

Guest guest
Have had 'As a Man Thinketh' for years - is a special classic.WelcomeArhata Hi to everyone, I have just joined this group. It seems to me that the combination of positive thinking and meditation as well as living in the present are the way to healthy living. In this day and age of such stressful lives and so much negativity around, that we can all benefit from positive thinking and meditation. I don't know if you recommend books, but i have read (several times) the book by "As Man Thinketh" I have found it truly inspirational and he also has a book of daily meditations, one for each day of the year...Perhaps others have read them. I would like to know what people think of either.... There is so much positive influence out there, if we only know how to access it all. I have yet to go through some of the emails here, but am sure there is much inspiration to be had here..... with warm wishes to all Carole

Guest guest
My name is Dena, age 53, and diagnosed with PA in the past few months, although pain in multiple joints (both knees, right wrist/thumb, left shoulder and left elbow) were sudden onset last November. Have other more minor auto immune disorders and have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia for years. But, due to the recurrent tendonitis/bursitis in the same joints over the years, I'm now thinking that the fibro has actually been early symptoms of the PA. Well, I don't have insurance and go to the county hospital, and first saw the rheumy three months ago. Was started on NSAIDs. No improvement and had rapid progression of pain/disability. Saw rheumy again on Friday and they are concerned about rapid progression in large joints and associated ligaments/tendons. My left elbow now has contracture and I will no longer be able to straighten it again. The tendons/ligaments are all tight/contracted around the elbow also. My left shoulder is " frozen " limiting mobility significantly. I was started on MTX, 15 mg x 2 weeks, then up to 20 mg and switched to Mobic for NSAID. Also prescribed Folic, 1 mg/daily. I took the MTX Friday night and slept most of the weekend and was VERY queasy. Still eating only very small amounts of bland food today. I have to get a TB test before they can start a biologic. Next appointment is October 9th and will hopefully start one of the biologics then. I am hopeful, yet also frightened about the rapid change in my mobility. I want my life back! Thanks for listening and for this list. Dena Pacific NW
