Guest guest
I wrote this awhile ago, but not sure if it got posted. My husband was started on prednisone last January and later added methotrexate. He did not tolerate the prednisone from the get go, and actually eventually became psychotic from it. The rheumatologist did not and would not recognize this, and kept him on it from January 18th until we actually tapered him off of it ourselves in August. I am writing to find out if anyone else has had this experience and if so, how did you recover, specifically what medications helped. We are on our fourth psychiatrist/psychopharmocologist who I believe knows what he is doing, but the first three did not and it has been really horrible. It has been really challenging as my husband was unable to work, hospitalized, and is now very, very depressed. He is now taking methotrexate and enbrel injections for the psoriatic arthritis and a bunch of things for the mental illness brought on by the prednisone. We have a new rheumatologist who would not have kept him on this drug for that long. Lastly, I wonder what dietary considerations have helped people with this disease? Also, my husband has totally stopped all exercise and yoga, and used to be quite active. I wonder what exercise is good or helpful for this? He has gained a lot of weight as a result of the psychiatric drugs and has no energy. Thank you very much, Cheryl
