Guest guest
AntiDepressants such as Prozac, Paxil, Welbutrin and Effexor work on your brain chemistry to correct chemical imbalances in the seritonin and neur-epheniphrine levels. They are most effective when they are taken as prescribed – DAILY. Lexapro is used for BOTH anxiety and depression and should be used daily as well. Think of it as a vitamin against depression / anxiety. This type of anti-depressant is not to be confused with medication used for situational anxiety (such as a tranquilizer) They work very differently. Taking extra Effexor when you are having a bad day is like putting gas in your car when your oil light comes on. It doesn’t address the problem. You may not be doing much harm, but you aren’t getting the relief you need either!! Any relief you get from taking an extra effexor is either an unintended side effect (they make me sleepy but they aren’t to be used as a sleeping pill) or a placebo effect. Don’t hesitate to discuss your difficulties (anxiety, sleep disturbance, etc) with the prescribing physician. You and your physician need to work to find the right combination of meds for YOU. (can you tell I’ve had this conversation (repeatedly) with a friend who abuses her meds? She has one she calls her ‘naughty pill’ . She takes more than the perscribed dose when she is having a rough day. Her doc does not let her have more than one month supply at a time!!)
