Guest guest
Hi, I'm new and was just diagnosed with PsA (polyarticular, symmetric) in late December. asked about antibiotics. The rheumatologist who made my diagnosis prescribed the antibiotic doxycycline (100mg twice a day) along with 100mg of the anti-inflammatory diclofenac sodium. I started feeling much better within a week. My knuckles (MIP and PIP) had been very swollen for more than 2 years, but 4 weeks after beginning the medications, those joints (though still a bit stiff first thing in the morning) look and feel normal for the biggest part of the day. The pain in my hips and knees has improved, too (though not quite as dramatically). CRP has gone down about 70%. My psoriasis (which was so mild that I didn't even know I had it until the Rheumy examined my heels and toenails) has improved about as much. Prior to diagnosis, I'd taken a variety of NSAIDS (Vioxx, Celebrex, Motrin, Aleve) and while they lessened the discomfort for short periods of time, they didn't do anything for the swelling. So far, I'm pleased with antibiotic therapy. Reading the posts to this group has been very informative (especially in terms of making me grateful to have a mild form of the disease). It is very helpful and tied into what I've heard all along... Did they try the low dose antibiotic therapy on you there? I have a friend who went there for a similar, but different auto-immune disease and they modified his diet and used this therapy and he had wonderful success with it... I've not heard much mentioned about this for PsA and I am curious... Warmly, (Idaho)
