Guest guest
Hi Sydney, The uric acid levels is a test done to see if a person has gout. The numbers can be brought down by following the diet that was used for those with gout. Since you are only a little high it would most likely bring you to the normal range as the diet doesn't bring down the numbers significantly Hope this helps. Arlene Hi group, Does anyone know a good way to bring down uric acids levels? I just had mine tested and it was 7.6, a little high.I have been taking Imunovir to get my HHV-6a down. It has worked but, now my uric acid levels are up. " What to do " . I have started drinking concentrated cherry juice but, I am not sure how much to take.I have discontinued the Imunovir for now.I am out of it and I know Cheney's office will not order anymore for me until my levels come down Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Sydney in NC
Guest guest
Arlene, Thanks,I will probably be ok if I just stop Isoprinosine for a time.Maybe I will order a transfer factor to help keep my HHV-6 at bay. Just in case, let us know the diet, please. Sydney in NC Re: Uric Acid Hi Sydney, The uric acid levels is a test done to see if a person has gout. Guest guest
If anyone has any doubts about gout, by all means get tested. It is a simple, cheap blood test. I have gout and CP, but I take 400 mg./day of allopurinol and it seems to be keeping the gout under control. I buy about 10 months supply of allopurinol at one time and it costs me about $75, a very reasonable solution to a very painful problem. When I had gout, it was mostly in my ankles, but had it in my big toe, knees, and kidneys just before I got on allopurinol. This was about 4 years ago. If you have gout, you usually need to get several blood tests over a period of a year or so, to get the level of medication that is right for you. After that, you should get retested every year or so (especially if you also have a problem like CP) to make sure your blood levels of uric acid are in the normal range. This reminds me, I should probably get my blood checked again. Guest guest
Funny you should bring this up. I suddenly started having pain in the big joint of my big toe on my right foot and my neighbor, a former nurse, suggested gout. But when I looked it up, it turned out that I don't eat any of the foods that cause it. Can you have gout w/o eating those foods? I do take a diuretic, but have been doing so for 20 years and the toe pain just started. In fact, now that I think about it, it only bothered me for a couple of weeks, then stopped (which I understand is typical of early gout). OTOH, the joint was not swollen, hot, or red. I only had it occasionally in my big toe and ankles. I thought the pain in my ankles was just from high arches. I got a roaring case in '99 after serious abdominal surgery. My doctor said surgery can bring it on. After that surgery I could never shake it. If you don't have constant problems with gout like I did, many times you can control occasional minor outbreaks with NSAIDS or colchicine. Colchicine is a drug that has been used for gout for over 2000 years. However it, like NSAIDS, can be hard on your stomach if taken too often. If you get on allopurinol, you absolutely need to keep taking it every day. If you don't and take it when you get a gout outbreak, it can actually make the gout worse. You can find a lot of good info on the internet by googling " gout " . Some of the worst pain I have had in my life have been from CP and from that case of gout in the hospital. That case caused ten times the pain the surgery did. Mike MT
Guest guest
Wow! I'd better get myself diagnosed. I never heard of anyone on either side of my family having gout, but maybe I just missed the scuttlebutt. Thanks for bringing this up. Ann Re: Uric Acid > > Funny you should bring this up. Guest guest
Does anyone else have high uric acid levels? Mine is 16.2. The rheumy said that normal is around 7. I am now on Allopurinol 300mg a day and I have cut beef out of my diet trying to get this reduced, but I am having an extreme gout attack since I have started the Allopurinol. The doctor said that is normal. Is anyone else having issues like this? thanks john
