Guest guest
> My question for those who have been on this herb longer is .. Does anyone > experience stomach cramps? Hi Carol, In the product links I have read through, Gastrol-Intestinal problems was cited as the most significant side-effect. When I looked it up, I just typed " Cat's claw " into Google and it gave me 20,000 sites to check. You may want to look for your specific company's information online. Just add it to your search string. As Kathy F. has to you, I concurr that it is best practice to tell your rheumatologist what you are doing with this and any other medication/herb. Best wishes, brent

Guest guest
, Thanks.......Being home sick today with no voice may be result of increasing Cat's Claw too fast....I was on 5/day & then tried liquid, 2 drops at dinner, before bedtime then AM and now feel sick...My whole history has been that nothing affects me...maybe because of lack of absorption due to past bowel issues, but now my bowels are the best ever (age 57) I think due to Rifing & Red Clay, so maybe everything is more powerful. Little or no herxing from working Andro, Reserv up to 12/day...so I did not expect anything from Cat's Claw. Now for some improvements & not just herxing...I am taking Allimed concurrently. My daughter also got costipated at times which caused her trouble. At first I gave her tums like stuff and found out that makes it worse, so her doc gave her Glutathione. But unless you know why you're having the stomach pain you can't really treat it. If you interested in Herbal remedies ask you LLMD about the Cowden Protocol or Zhang herbs. Cowden worked for my daughter in conjunction with antibiotics. Now she no longer needs ab and only takes a cowden regimin. The Zhang herbs worked for me. Good luck to you! From: on <maryha@...> Subject: [ ] Re:cat's claw Date: Thursday, January 7, 2010, 8:25 AM  I recommend that you read Buhner's book " Healing Lyme " . He outlines an herbal protocol in the book and provides lots of information about the herbs and research that backs up his recommendations. I've been on Buhner's core protocol plus since October and have been getting better with very few side effects. Some of the components of the Zhang and Cowden protocols are similar to Buhner's so you can compare. I have not tried Zhang or Cowden protocols. Some of thier products are proprietary blends which I thought made it more difficult to research what you're taking. Information on the Cowden Protocol is available on the Nutramedix website: http://www.bionatus .com/nutramedix/ pages/lymepage. html -
Guest guest
I don't know anything about cat's claw. the herbs I mentioned don't need a prescription but our LLMD would look at our stmptoms and what co-infections we had along with how our bodies were tolerating other meds etc. before they made a decision on what regimin we should be on, that's why I suggested you have your doc contact Dr. Horowitz. From what I could tell over the years my daughter and I were treated, was that Lyme treatment is not an easy thing. there are so many variables to consider which is why I think it's dangerous to try to treat it yourself. We got our Zhang and Cowden herbs from Dr. Horowitz. He sold them at a discounted rate. Maybe the websites that were mentioned to you would have a link. I'm sure Dr. Horowitz would tell your GP where to get them as well. You could also ask your local health food store if they would order them, but I suspect that would be a fairly expensive way to go. Guest guest
Yes I've been taking Cat's Claw just over 3 months with no side effects. I take a dose much larger than the label specifies as I am following the Buhner protocol. Cat's Claw is one of the major components of the core protocol. I take tons of supplements and I get these and most of the herbs online, usually from iherb. They offer quantity discounts! I get some stuff at Whole Foods too, not sure if they have Cat's Claw. The brand I use is Natures Way, 485 mg capsules and I'm currently taking 16 of these a day. Buhner's book, Healing Lyme, has an excellent section on Cat's Claw that includes references to many studies. It also discusses the TOA/POA controversy. Samento, used in the Cowden protocol, is TOA free Cat's Claw. Buhner's book reviews this controversy and makes an intelligent case for using the whole bark, Cat's Claw, formula. -

Guest guest
We both saw Dr. Horowitz as well as his PA, Fallon. The initial visit is very costly but also lasts at least 2 hours. They always take their time with each patient. I paid for all of my daughter's medical costs out of pocket since her insurance wasn't accepted either. I'm a single mom on disability, but you do what you have to get your kids the help they need. They did help me by lowering the costs of suppliments and doc visits. they also have an option for phone consultation which is cheaper as well, but not for the first visit. ________________________________ From: laina pedro <Lainamariepedro@...> Sent: Sat, January 9, 2010 11:38:03 AM Subject: Re: [ ] cat's claw  Annie Didi you actually take your daughter to dr horowitz or did you just have him consult w/ your dr? Guest guest
I would double check on this, but I think they've raised their initial cost to $850 or $900. I know, it's nuts and feels completely undoable. There is help if the visit is for your son, it's called Lyme Aid for Kids Fund. Info is on the Lyme Disease Association website. But there isn't any for adults that I know of. They ask for half down when you make the appt. A local church might be willing to help or even a Salvation Army in your area. If you can get on disability, they do take medicare. then the office visits are only an $18 copay, but that first one's a hurdle. I know it feels overwhelming. all the best to you, Annie ________________________________ From: laina pedro <Lainamariepedro@...> Sent: Sun, January 10, 2010 7:04:19 AM Subject: Re: [ ] cat's claw  Annie... Guest guest
Thank you very much for your responses, this is very helpful. The reason for raising the dosage was to see how much better I can get. While I have improved significantly, I am by no means well. However, it would appear that the dose I was taking was too much of a good thing. Guest guest
I've been on this now since July. I'm better. My drops also contain other herbs. Lymeover Sent via BlackBerry by AT & T [ ] Re: Cat's Claw > My notes say that a two-week break should happen after being on Cat's Claw for 3 months, but I don't remember where I read that info so am not sure it is reliable. catsclaw can be hard on the liver, so maybe it is a good idea to take a break after a few months. But I don't think it is really necessary. Many have used it on a continuous basis. > Also, my dd is on Cat's Claw tincture at 18 drops 2x day. She worked up to this amount slowly. Is this considered full dose per Buhner for a 100 lb child (I know it is hard to convert mg to drops but roughly at least at full dose?) and apparently you are using Samento or a similar product, and not the catsclaw (bulk herb) that Buhner recommends. It is impossible to translate these dosages, just work up to the maximum you can take, or the maximum recommended by the manufacturer, and try to keep that for a few months. Guest guest
** catsclaw can be hard on the liver** I didn't know that. I think I will give her a two-week break. I don't think that is too long to cause a setback. ** apparently you are using Samento or a similar product, and not the catsclaw (bulk herb) that Buhner recommends.** She's on Herb Pharm Cat's Claw. She can't swallow pills, so I had to find a way to get the cat's claw into her. She is also on other tinctures (knotweed) and was on eleuthero (this was stopped due to having no noticeable effect on her, other than increasing her fatigue!) I may try the bulk herb and mix it into applesauce to see if she gets a different reaction to it. **It is impossible to translate these dosages, just work up to the maximum you can take, or the maximum recommended by the manufacturer, and try to keep that for a few months.** Good point and this makes sense--18 drops is just slightly below 3/4 dose of what is recommended for an adult, and this seems to be a good amount for her. Thanks for your help! Mira
