My names Alysha I was diagnosed with Lyme in June of 2010, I am only 15 years

old. I love to read and write, so my mom gave me this idea to write a book on

Lyme. So I decided to take it one step further, how about it is Lyme from a

teenagers point of view. The book would be split into 2 parts, the first its

going to be all about Lyme and the second part are about the different teenagers

that have been affected by Lyme. If there are any of you out there who have

stories about teenagers with Lyme, I would greatly appreciate it if you would

send it to me because this book shows Lyme not from an adults point of view but

of a teenagers, and our struggle with Lyme. Being diagnosed with Lyme as a

teenager is a very hard thing to go through. You miss out on so much of your

teenage years before you have to go out into the real world. Unable to go out

with friends because your stuck in bed, not being able to go to school dances or

functions, missing school for days on end, and unable to be a teenager and start

discovering who you are. I hope that with this book that I can educate people

that its not just adults who get Lyme but teenagers as well, and we go through

it differently than adults do. So please if you don't mind your story being

published and shared if it is published(there is a chance it might not though),

please send me your story at alyshataliana@.... Thank you.

P.S I would also like to extend this invitation to any children or tweens with

Lyme as with further thought I would like to include a section about kids with

Lyme.

I think your desire/plan to write a book like this is not only admirable and

courageous, but brilliant! =) It is SOOO needed! There are so very few books

about Lyme in total, and of those, I can only think of ONE that was intended for

youth of any kind. It is a more technical look at Lyme, so not the same thing at

all.

I have a 12yo daughter and an 11yo so who were both born infected (as was I),

and have been in treatment now to varying degrees of success for 2yr now. By and

large my daughter has handled all her medical 'issues' quite well and has pretty

much been able to just get on with her normal life regardless of what's come up.

My son, on the other hand..... oh boy could he use a book like this! He

struggles so much with the whole concept of being sick and having to take so

many medicines... of being different and not being able to do things other kids

his age do, etc.

I'm sure part of the difference in the way they handle it is due to the

differences in the way Lyme and Co. has affected them physically, mentally, and

emotionally. They're both on anti-depressants, but for vastly different reasons.

Both infected, but totally different symptoms, ya know? My son's symptoms have

been much more intense, severe, long-lasting, and pyschiatric/mental in nature

than my daughter's. She did get the depression, of course, but that's where her

neuro-pysch stuff ended. That's just the tip of a gigantic iceburg for her

brother.

I will talk to them both this week about the possibility of writing down some

thoughts or sharing some experiences with you. I think it's a great idea, and

would probably be of great benefit to if I can convince him to do it. =)

Stay strong and good luck to you in this exciting endeavor!
