--- Melody, Hi, I am so sorry that you have dizziness. I have dealt

with it for almost 3 years now after one of my surgeries. The doctor

can do test and give you meds that will help. It is always good to

get checked out when you have dizziness. Can you drive? I haven't

drove for a long time now. On somedays I can for a little bit but

then I start feeling woozy and have to quit. Hope you get some

answers, Charla

Oh and there is a good dizzy website for support. It is

www.dizzylounge.com A lot of people there deal with being dizzy

constant. I called my doctor and his nurse told me to come in

Hi Charla,

Thanks for the info. I am able to drive, I came home from work early and will drive to the dr tomorrow if it seems safe. I was talking to a friend at work who said she had vertigo for 2 years. I really really hope this is no big deal, I have had no other problems from my surgeries.

We'll see what happens in the morning.

Take care,

Melody

Melody - There's nothing worse to me than feeling dizzy. I had my surgery one year ago January and did not have any dizziness until this past January. Very weird, and I cannot stand the feeling -it makes me very anxious. Please update us on what your doctor has to say....Melody Reilly <melodyreilly@...> wrote:

Sorry I didn't post after my appt. on Tuesday... but I am just fed up. My surgeon just returned from overseas and is busy busy so I had to see another doctor, who I like, but who doesn't know me very well - or know that sometimes I want him to feel sorry for me :) I see my regular doctor again in 3 weeks.

Anyway, I took a hearing test and my hearing is the same as it was in October, which is good because it's not worse. I do not have any signs of infection which is good. The dizziness or vertigo I am having is normal because I had a cold a few weeks ago. It may last for 2 more weeks or 6 more months.

I am mad because they always say my ears look great, or now, dizziness is normal, or my prosthetics are great, tubes are right where they should be... but I am sick of feeling like crap. I know I have great doctors, best in the world maybe, but I guess this is as good as it gets. I know one of my eustatchian tubes does not work at all and that ear feels kind of dead, even thhough I can hear out of it. Apparently that may last forever. My ears make funky noises, the pain from the incision sites is still there on both sides. Numbness continues... and my doctors think it's all great. Sorry for being down and venting, but even when things are "great" sometimes they still kind of suck.

Take care,

Melody

Melody: I have had 4 surgeries on my right ear for Ctoma, strting in 1989. I am

a fulltime RVer in Phoenix , Arizona at present. I woke up this morning with

very significant vertigo. We have had a lot of rain and the desert is blooming.

This meand lots of pollen and my allergies kick up. I am waiting on a Honeywell

17400 hepa filter, but until it gets here I suffer.

I went through a number of years being really angry about the pain and the

stupid doctors! Now, I live with it, forget about the pain and discomfort when

it is not there. I need to schedual a cleaning appointment. Sometimes the doctor

I go to for cleaning (it only takes him 5 minutes to do it) charges me for MINOR

SURGERY $350.00!! But Medicare pays for it, so I don't mind. It really is a

double wammy: having allergies and a ctoma.

Hope you feel better.

Gee Melody, I am sorry that you've got the Ctoma Blues.

Unfortunately, they can be very real. Not feeling well for any

extended period of time can really get you down. Hopefully, you'll

begin to feel better soon. Hang in there!

Hi

>> It really is a double wammy: having allergies and a ctoma <<

Me too, . I survive on Mizollen tablets daily, a nasal spray too (but when overused can cause nosebleeds!) and occasionally I have to use Sudafed, too, to rid myself of the decongestion. With certainly the Mizollen, my ear gets bunged up, I have balance/vertigo problems and I get very grumpy!! (LOL!)

Life's sure a challenge!

OOops, that was supposed to read: "WITHOUT the Mizollen, my ears get bunged up, I have balance/vertigo problems and I get very grumpy!"

Apologies - am at work and wanted it posted pronto! LOL

I am really stopped-up right now. I only use the Afrin nasal spray

at night. Sometimes it gets me through the night, last night it did

not.

I really should get out of this area now, and take my RV up a little

into the mountains where the climate is different and less is

blooming.

Still with the hepa filter, hope it comes soon, I should be OK

inside.

Bye,

Opal:  this will likely sound weird but something came up recently with my

internist relating to my ear and she said the outer ear is actually cartilage

and that there might be a connection between the arthritis in my neck (which

causes lots of headaches but is from osteo, not psoriatic arthritis) and this

weird thing that was happening with my ear.  Normally, true vertigo (not just

dizziness) is caused by fluid or something in your inner ear.  I've had it twice

and literally had to lay flat and not move a muscle or the room would spin and I

would get nauseous.  One of the more horrible experiences I've ever had. for

those of you who haven't experienced it.

Hi Opal,

I have had some problems with dizziness.

Some times I don't eat enough to help me cope with all the meds I take.

And recently I actually fell and when I checked with my doctor he found that I

am low in iron.

Don't rule out a lack of a vitamin -- (blood test), or allergic reaction to meds

or food.

The more testing you can do at home the faster you will find the answer.

Maybe keep a chart for a month to see what meds you take and what foods you are

eating when this happens.

Sometimes the answer is just too easy.

Good luck.

I just experienced this, when I lifted my head to turn it in a different

position, felt like I was in a kaleidoscope. I had a hard lump on my neck and

massaged it hard, now I just have a bit of dizziness. I have psoriatic arthritis

and spondylitis.

I'm also 50 yr old achon, have normal amt of stenosis that has not required

surgery (occasional back problems have gone away with exercise so far). I had a

bout of vertigo 9 years ago that lasted several weeks. I could still function.

My internist thought I should stop driving, but when I saw my ENT he said

driving was fine (I was not symptomatic when sitting, it was lying down, etc.)

My 19 yr old son, also achon, but who has had cervical and lumbar

decompression/fusions, had a couple dizzy spells this week - was upright when it

occurred though - so not sure if that was it. He had ear tubes removed several

weeks ago though. Will also see neurologist just in case (he had one seizure

three years ago, so we're extra cautious about such stuff.)
