Guest guest
Laina I hate it when I have to say :welcome to the group. deep breath you/we all can and will get thru this simply put what the tests means is that you are LUCKY--becasue they are absolutely and unquestionable for any insurance company that it is positive for Lyme. the " present " bands means that the immune system is telling you that those proteins have been setting off the " intruder " alarm and that its from the Lyme bacteria. When is your appt with Dr ?? if its longer than 3 weeks please call their office and fax them the results for advice. Dr may be able to talk with you own pediatrician and get your son on meds asap.which is important. Meanwhile ask Dr J's office which other tests to do while you wait--youll need coinfection testing since its rare that anyone has " only " Lyme when the nasty tick bites.he can fax you Rx for the tests and where/which lab he prefers. This way when you see him all results are waiting for him. It looks like you were on top of it ( good for you!!!) and you found it and will be using the BEST Dr in the nation, maybe even the world-- Ray . Follow what he says and be patient. It may be steady progress or a one step back and 2 forward deal. Your son is in puberty and that may make it a bit harder--emotional changes, hormonal changes etc. Hang in and always come here for a sympathetic ear or to learn more about this. And start a relationship with 's office staff --theyre great and will answer any/all concerns you have. If you need an " interpreter " for the confusing stuff, we are here fro you good luck!!! Guest guest
Hi Laina, Though I know the journey is a crazy one, you are on the road with a positive test in hand and an appointment with Dr. . My son was infected in 2004, treated improperly, and then became symptomatic again in 2007. He has come off all his medications this past July and has been symptom-free since. Every day I thank God (or whoever) that I found Dr. . He is our hero. You will enter his office and know immediately that not only have you found a soft place to land, but wise counsel who will not give up on treating your son until he is better. Guest guest
Happy Birthday and good luck!!!!! btw if you remember, tell Dr that Evan Russak and his Mom send their regards and take some notepaper and a pencil too. you can easily be overhwhelmed by the information thrown at you. consider also starting a diary/ symptom journal of sorts-a composition notebook works great-each day try to note the meds he takes, his symptoms ( dont keep asking him, be aware of changes and such)and any reactions to drugs. At the end of the day try to ask him how he would rate the day and why. This gets him used to expressing whats going on inside..like if he says a 6 because he had to miss the soccer game. You can see how his progress is at the same time get a peek at whats bothering him or vexing or concerning him and address it if you think necessary!! make a pocket in the back or have a separate file folder for test results--keep copies and ask for copies of everything--it gets harder and harder to recall which Dr ordered what test and having to call them to fax to someone else--when you hold copies, simply make a new copy and carry with you to appts. many have found that rating symptoms from 1-5 or 1-10 helps. then at the next appt you dont have to struggle to figure out whats better or worse--a day before you go back, look through and note if for example the headaches that were a level 6 every day now sometimes only a level 4. These patterns of changes are often all a Dr have to go by whether a protocol is working. Some like a grid with all the symptoms and filling it in--others (like me) rather simply list the symptoms that apply that day. If you think it applies, noting the activity or behavior that may have affected the symptom might help ( like eating very late dinner causing a blood sugar drop and really awful behavior that may not even be " the Lyme " ) Plus it gets harder to keep track of the meds and supplements youve tried and which if any worked as time and healing goes on. the hardest for parents of preteens and teens is blaming all on Lyme and also none on Lyme--it takes time but you will get a sense of which is acting out due to teen crankiness and which is because he feels crummy--however there will be times its BOTH and let me assure you that those are the times for you to 'need' to drive and get a carton of milk for a little while!! thats okay!! Try to not give in too much and dont feel guilty over being mean even though he is feeling poorly. Curfew is curfew, bedtime is bedtime and eating well and listening to Dr's advice about activities is crucial. Please let us all know how the appt goes and how you both are doing!!! Guest guest
Yes, Dr respects what I call " complementary " medicine--using traditional medicine and drugs along with ( complementing) natural approaches. Some of his patients' parents dabble in very unusual things and he often will eatch them carefully and try to not butt in unless he feels its very risky to that chjild...but that doesnt mean he approves or will suggest others to do that As for flu protection--I recommend to my clients,as an advocate the following: good diet, multivitamin unless your Dr advises against it a little extra vitamin C again ask your Dr first Boiron homeopathic flu remedy ( taken first as a preventative--google the company and email them for advice) and occillococcinum if you get symptoms--homeopathics may not work but they have zero risks unless you cant tolerate milk sugars(lactose) AND very very important--teach the kids to wash hands well several times a day--keep hands away from noses, eyes, and mouths. Cough into elbows. and use the Purell type gels. get a small bottle for backpacks and if they cant wash tell them to use that before eating, after bathrooming and a few extra times a day some schools are installing hand gel stations!!! at first sign of fever and flu keep them HOME. ask your school to contact via round robin phone calls when the flu status is more than 25% in your kids' classroom or the entire school is seeing a lot of flu cases.so youll be on alert. I also use and like Sambucol elderberry extract liquid--the original--PROVEN to lessen colds ,flu and viral infections. we take it every day as a preventative then increase the frequency if we get sick--it has kept bugs out of my home for YEARS and if we do get sick--we are over it fast despite being so ill. stay calm and keep a notebook for all of your information so you can look back into it as needed. Guest guest
That's not the cost per normal visit. The first visit is very detailed and lasts a couple of hours. Later visits are shorter and less expensive. Insurance may or may not cover testing. His office staff is helpful in explaining costs. I will email you the phone number. laina pedro wrote: > > > 800$ TO SEE DR JONES HE IS JUST FOR KIDS THOUGH. > > > > From: bob <masonjarbeading@... <mailto:masonjarbeading%40>> > Subject: Re: [ ] What does all this mean? > > <mailto: %40> > Date: Wednesday, September 23, 2009, 5:51 AM > > > > Could someone email me off the forum a contact number for Dr and > the cost per office visit(hope fully it will not be around the cost of > the one in Hydepark NY 950...... > > Thanks > > sara > > > > > > Hi Laina, > > > > > > Though I know the journey is a crazy one, you are on the road with a > > > positive test in hand and an appointment with Dr. . He takes financial ability into account sometimes as well. good luck and the waits may be long--this time of year new cases really blossom Re: [ ] What does all this mean? Guest guest
I just phoned Dr. office and practically begged for help because my son has been on the list for months and can't get in till Jan. They told me there was nothing they could do and they were way too busy to read his test results I sent in. That I had to just wait for the appt or a possible cancelation. Guest guest
So sorry, I'm sure it's frustrating. I can't imagine a doctor's office being that booked up but the good ones usually are. He's gotten so much national exposure there's people coming in from all over. Hopefully you will get in soon. Guest guest
I am so sorry. It's so hard. i remeber when I was trying to find a doc for my daughter. I was hoping to find one that took my insurance. I never did and just took her to my doc. Are there any other doctors in your area? I didn't catch where you were from. Guest guest
hhhmm, I wonder if it depends on who you talk to. When I talked to them yesterday, they said I could fax the results along with my appt packet of info, and if my ped called them, Dr. JOnes would review the results and make recommendations. They said they would definately not talk to me about it, but would talk to the ped. If only I could remember the name of the person I talked to. Guest guest
YES it matters. His staff has grown and has some changes too-- they each have their own ideas of which info gets to the Dr!! You may want to FAX attn to him and then phone and ask that he reads it Ive known him to talk with peds Drs ?if your appt with him was pending. He used to offer treatment advice to the parents but now is more careful ( that pesky investigation, again) but peer to peer ( dr to Dr) is a routine and accepted method of care!! if all else fails can you convince your kids' Dr to email or call him?? thats harder since the home dr has to admit he needs help ( and often even admit the kid even has Lyme to begin with) but its a last resort. good luck Finette Re: [ ] What does all this mean? hhhmm, I wonder if it depends on who you talk to. Guest guest
I am only about an hour and a half away form Dr. , but I have to take out a loan just to go. For some reason when I tried to download the Lyme aid for kids website ,it said I had to open a file and I couldn't open it. Guest guest
I guess it does, because I sent them all the test results and packet 2 months ago. I have to say the woman I spoke with was very grouchy. Guest guest
You have to have Acrobat Reader. I just read a post that said they're out of funds. I think she was writing about this. I hope not! ________________________________ From: jchabot <jchabot@...> Sent: Friday, September 25, 2009 7:45:46 AM Subject: Re: [ ] What does all this mean?
