Guest guest
my daughter was on IV doxycycline for 2 weeks when she was 3. She is now 8 and none of her permanent teeth are stained. That is our experience, so I can't speak for everyone. Good luck! ________________________________ From: darabeth2003 <dara.alewine@...> Sent: Tue, December 29, 2009 4:48:14 PM Subject: [ ] vibromycin  Has anyone used vibromycin or other tretracycline drug for their children? It is not recommended for children due to the risk of causing permenant staining to adult teeth. Dr. J recommeded that it was ok with short term use and prescribed 3 wks for erlichiosis tx. Just wondering if anyone else has done this, or knows what the research says about short-term use for kids. I know the erlichiosis needs to be treated, and trust Dr. J's experience, but also wonder how many people later on would come back and tell him that the drug ended up causing their stained teeth. Thanks, Dara

Guest guest
My 17yo daughter was getting some staining on the roots of her teeth (only under the gum - we found out during her wisdom tooth extraction) after taking Minocycline for about a year and half. She was switched to Doryx (a formulation of doxycycline). darabeth2003 wrote: > > Has anyone used vibromycin or other tretracycline drug for their > children? Guest guest
My then 12 year old daughter took Doryx for over a year and we never noticed any discoloration. It worked very wel for her too. She's also very dilligent when it comes to teeth brushing, if that matters ________________________________ From: <lnelson@...> Sent: Tue, December 29, 2009 10:36:46 PM Subject: Re: [ ] vibromycin My 17yo daughter was getting some staining on the roots of her teeth (only under the gum - we found out during her wisdom tooth extraction) after taking Minocycline for about a year and half. Guest guest
I will just add that Rifampin yhas been turning my 11 year old daughter's teeth completely dark grey but the doctor said that getting a dental cleaning will scrape that right off because it's only on the surface. She was on Doxy for three months and that did not discolor her teeth. But I think the risk is in little kids -- that it might discolor their permanent teeth. Sounds like that doesn't always happen either. > > Has anyone used vibromycin or other tretracycline drug for their > children? Guest guest
Yes, I think the risk in during formation of the permanent teeth. Thanks everyone for your responses. My internet research says the risk is greater with long-term use, but it is always reassuring to hear from the people who have experience.
