Guest guest
I am surprised to see that Benadryl is being used for nausea here. Isn't Benadryl used for allergic reactions, swelling and itchiness? I used to have to take Benadryl before my Remicade infusions. They told me the Benadryl worked in more than one way - fights infection at the IV site, fights any nausea caused by the medication and also helps you relax and perhaps even dose off during the 2-3 hr. infusion. - Jim

Benadryl is a antihistamine. Antihistamine's have an anti-nausea effect on the body. Most medications that are given for seasickness are antihistimines such as Bonine and Dramamine and also the patch that is used. Guest guest
If you go to any Antibiotic Therapy kook board you will find that they are always recommending to use Benadryl with the Minocine they prescribe. They rave about Benadryl mederating their non-existant Herheimer reaction. In actuallity the Benadryl is simply moderating a histamine allergic reaction to the Minocine that almost everyone gets with Minocin and a significant reason why Minocin is rarely used nowadays. If you have a mild allergic reaction to a new meds (or really anything) it's always a good idea to have Benadryl around. It's good for Enbrel injection site reactions and bee stings. If you have a severe reaction the Benadryl may save your life by slowing the process long enough to get to a hospital or an ambulance. Guest guest
Hello everyone if I am having a problem with nausea with MTX and I want to try Benadryl when do I take it before or after and how much do I take? I hope this works I can't stand the nausea its like having the 48 hour stomach flu every week. Take care and have a great week LINDA [Editor's Note: I'd start with 50 mgs which is a normal adult dose. BTW, many people who have nausea on MTX pills do much better on an MTX injection. I switched and have had no problems. Kathy F.]

Isn't Benadryl used for allergic reactions, swelling and itchiness? [Editor's Note: Yes, but for many people, the nausea is an allergic reaction. Kathy F.] Kathy's right, but also, you know how people take Dramamine for motion sickness? Benadryl is a " cousin " to Dramamine; in fact the pediatricians I work for recommend the Benadryl for motion sickness in little kids instead of Dramamine because it has fewer side effects for them.
