Guest guest
Dear Kaye: I have the same problem with getting a real red face. Overexertion really does it to me, although the heat sometimes causes it too. I've had people comment about it. Mostly people ask me if I'm all right. My daughter (being 8 years old) will draw it to my attention. It never ceases to amaze her! Kathy (AIH) Seattle area
Guest guest
Dear Kathy and Kaye I'm curious is your face just red or is it a rash? Lately several people have commented to me about my red cheeks-when I look it is like a lot of little red spider veins all over my face-It doesn't look like a rash. Even when I get up in the morning there is a definite reddened area to my right cheek, nose and less on the left side of my face. Anybody else notice things like this? People keep asking me if I have High Blood Pressure and I don't-usually it is low. But of course the sun and heat really bring out the red! Guest guest
Dear Susie: I always have really bright red cheeks from the prednisone. A lot of people get the red face and I'm fortunate that it is confined to my cheeks (and to a lesser degree, my nose), but what I was referring to in my last post was the bright red all over that I get when I exert myself or in the heat. In my case, it is not a rash. Kathy (AIH) Seattle area
Guest guest
Susie: I have very low blood pressure and my face is so red at times. I getting ready now to go to work at 5:30 for 4 big hours and I will have the red face from showering and washing my hair. Just going up and down the stairs makes me look like St Nick. Guest guest
Sounds to me like a symtom of lupus- which is a butterfly rash across the face! Might be something to look into! I have a friend who has the same problem. She has Grave's disease and that is Autoimmune and first her dr. told her the rash on her face was due to the thyroid condition then he said it was roscacea. Now he is testing her for lupus. Hope it helps. Lori C. AIH - TRANSPLANT 3~11~97 Re: [ ] Re: Red face >From: SUSIE22658@... > >Dear Kathy and Kaye >I'm curious is your face just red or is it a rash? Guest guest
Kathy, I turn a purplish shade when I'm exposed to too much heat, so obvious I've had strangers tell me that I'd better go someplace and lie down. I also get light headed and short of breath. Also, since the pred's been reduced, I'm getting that fine, invisible rash again, mostly on my throat, neck and face, when I perspire. Guest guest
Susie, Does the redness on your cheeks look like little broken blood vessels and at the same time like you're slightly flushed? If so, I think that goes with liver disease. I have the same thing and it was worse when I first got sick. The past week or so I notice it again. You often see something similar on the faces of people who have been heavy drinkers for many years. It probably shows up more if you' have a fair complexion and are thin skinned (I'm both). I had a doctor tell me years ago that my blood vessels appear to be close to the surface of my skin because of a general lack of body fat (where is that nice doctor now, when I need his flattering words?) Even with all the weight gain, the veins in my hands and lower arms stand out. Always have. Geri
Guest guest
Kathy, Hi, how are you. Talking about red faces. When I vacuum the floor in my house, my face is brighter than a fire engine. It takes me a good 20 minutes of just sitting sipping on any liquid to go back to normal. Any exercertion seems to do it to my face. I am always being asked if I am all right too. I am forever telling people it is just me, that is why I very seldom go out of the house. Guest guest
About the red face and the spider veins... Several years ago I was at a conference and had an opportunity to have a facial. The facialist basically in so many words told me that I had the skin of a drug or alcohol abuser, and I was so offended because I don't use either and never have. Both general facial redness and the small veins are symptomatic of liver failure. She suggested treating your skin like it was extremely delicate and sensitive and said chamomile based products were good. I also find that using this cheap powder called Cornsilk (available in drug stores) cuts down on the redness a lot. People have said my skin looks " great " since I started. Guest guest
Lib, I've had numerous compliments on my complexion since I've had AIH. I think because I've always been very pale and it's added color to my face. However, the broken veins do make people suspect that you might be a drug or alcohol abuser. W.C. Fields was a good example of someone with broken veins from alcohol (if you look at the old photos.) All of this has certainly revised my former easy assumption that I could identiy bad habits by surface appearances! Take care, Geri
Guest guest
I've been reading several posts about turning red with a rash of some sort...Tyler, my 16 yr old son(with Crohns, Rhuematiod Arthritis, AIH and PSC, for those of you who do not know of him) also gets a rash....It comes daily with just standing...Its mostly his legs, arms and face...Never(well almost) on his body.. Last winter the rash was so bad that it would be there almost all the time....He would swell terribly and not be able to walk because his feet where so huge....The rash at times when very bad actually gets purple...and he is hot to the touch but it does not itch....It has taken months of changing meds and starting new but he is better....He gets the rash daily but it doesn't swell or get purple....He used to be very self conscious over this....only wearing long sleeved things and always pants....Kids used to see him turn color and ask him about it....They now know its just Ty and he wears shorts and T-shirts now....The first time I showed the docs this I told them to get the other docs in quick because it doesn't stay long, you can watch him change color before your eyes...Still be very red but the purple would just disappear...They thought I was nuts...but know us well after so many years so she ran to get the other doc.....Within 2 minutes he changed....When she came back in with other doc she said she was going to kill Ty....it was different.....Luckily 1 of them got to see it though....While we continued to talk she got real excited and said... " there he goes again.... " and back to the purple he went....Just sitting there....Crazy....But like I said he is better now.... So I guess this whole auto-immune thing has many different rashes..... Infact, before he was 10 and ever sick he broke out in the same rash.....swelled up the whole 9 yards...We put him on benadryl(in Wildwood on vacation) and put him to bed...Had to go home the next day....His ped. never heard of such a thing and just dismissed it....I was about 3 months later that he was diagnosed with Crohns and then followed up with the others.... A rash is a rash is a rash......Tell that to the people who are suffering with them..... Luanne Ty's mom
