You are so correct. Games are a very good way to keep the brain active.

They are recommended to stave off senility. Also, I play a game called shape

shifter. It requires hand-eye coordination. It has helped my fine motor

skills tremendously.

As long as you don't spend too much time behind the computer playing them,

they're really a help. However if you play too long, stiffness sets in. Then

it's back to the exercises. lol

Excellent tips, Norell! You can add Scrabble and plain-old

crossword puzzles to the list, too. Even Solitaire helps. My

mother played Solitaire every morning with her coffee and she was

sharp as a tack until the day she died.

I play correspondence chess at pacific-mall.com

http://www.pacific-mall.com/games/chess/

If anyone would like to play me, I am known there as Warthog5. You

will need to " create a free userid " , then you can " invite player " in

the " 1 on 1 " section. On the site, we generally use only our login

names. The site allows for comments to be posted during the games

(open for all to read) and private mail messages (where people

sometimes use their real names)to be sent. In my games I normally

make about 5 moves a week. I normally have 3-5 games going at a

time. This is good for the memory and good for analytical skills.

In my quest to slow the aging process (now being sped-up by

prednisone), I also try to read things that force me to think about

new topics or in new ways - blog sites, philosophy, theoretical

physics, well-written novels... My son is bright and he keeps me

alert as well.

Yes, , that's me Brnt/skrewtz/warthog5.

If you play chess, correspondence chess is a very good way to

improve your game. I would be happy to play you.

I normally play 20-25 moves a week (5+ moves for 3 to 5 games).

There are also team ( " lobby " ) games on the go where you can just

jump in and play. Sometimes you will find that another person is

playing the colour opposite and you can make a series of moves

against that person. Sometimes there will be 5 or six people playing

in the lobby at once. Sometimes no-one will make another move for

hours. Also, some players pre-arrange times with other players

where they may decide to play several moves with each other (even

whole games). The lobby is a fun place to make that happen, as you

can get an audience. I have had games going at pacmal very nearly

continuously for 5 or 6 years now.

For real-time " blitz " games and other games like bridge, you can go

to msn games or just google the name of the game you like to play to

find about a gazillion sites.

I use this on Phoebe and although there are all kinds of chemical reactions going on having to with glutathone(sp)

all I know it has helped her lungs stay mostly mucus free. The snot (sorry gross) is definately more watery, usually it is worse than wallpaper paste! I give her one 500mg in am & one 500mg in the evening. If you google NAC you will see all kinds of reasearch. There are studies going on with down syndrome too, they find it lessens the alzhiemers effect on the brain. I give her a small dose of Ginko.

Help For Brain Fog

While trying to deal with an highly probable Mitochondrial cytopathy running rampant through our family, [we have yet to have it confirmed by a muscle biopsy] my sister and I started taking Aceytl-L Carnitine and I have to say that my brain fog has lifted. I had almost reached the point where I was ready to give up driving and in fact would only drive locally before I started to take this supplement because of this and, I started reading again. I had stopped because I couldn't keep a train of though going. There is only one thing I have to insist on. Take it in the capsule form, not the tablet and make sure it is pure white and comes from a reputable company. Oh yea, don't confuse it with Levo-carnitine. The L-carnitine doesn't pass the blood/brain barrier where the Acetyl -L form does. I use the "NOW" brand and I order it online from Bodybuilding. com. It has been suggested that you can take up to 3 grams

[3000mgs], but I have found 500mg[1/2 gram] to be suffcient for now, although I am considering doubling it for a while to see if it helps even more.It has been tested for people with demetia of all kinds and other neurological disorders including depression with good results and few side effects and in most cases no side effects. If anyone tries this, please let us know if it works for you too.
