Methotrexate concern

I haven't posted in a long while but something has come up that I need

to share with the group.

I was on methotrexate at a very low dose, 2.5 mg, for over a year when

I was 48. It helped my joints tremendously and cleared my skin but

made me very sick so when I started working a flex shift I had to stop

taking it. Apparently it was a blessing I stopped as I had a bone

density scan this week and find out that I have severe osteoporosis in

my lumbar spine. My L3 vertebra is nearly gone and I am at very high

risk of fracture. L1, 2, 4 and 5 are not far behind. I am 54, only 2

yrs post menopause and the only explanation they can come up with is

the methotrexate exposure. I have no particular pain in that area but

my legs and SI joints and feet hurt all the time. The bone density

scan was a routine baseline just to see how things are going. Now I

know. So, something to be aware of. Make sure everyone is getting

enough calcium and vitamin D, exercise, and get your bones checked if

you've been/are on MTX!
