Guest guest
I don't post often, so I'll go back to when I realised that not only were the Metho shots making me sick for 2 days solid, it had gotten so bad that just thinking of doing the shots made me queasy. So I stopped, cold turkey. Very irresponsible, i know, but I just didn't care. I was tired all of the time, my hair was thinning, I was losing so much time to feeling sick. I just one day decided I wasn't doing it anymore. When I went for my 6 month appointment, shortly after that, my Doctor simply said that quitting suddenly was not a good idea. Then without further criticism she moved on to the next protocol. I was dreading the Enbrel, etc, step since I think that it needs refrigeration and I travel and camp a lot. Didn't see how I would manage that. Instead she and the visiting resident, (it is sort of fun, doctors come from all over the world to work at the clinic) cut the MTX back substantially, and by pills-- the deal going that I cut back gradually to zero unless pain kicks in, and put me on Arava as well. I also got some folinic (not folic) acid to take after the metho which should cut the hair loss. Within a week I was pain free. It was almost as if I could feel the pain melting away. My rashes which were horrible and flaking and being generally disgusting are now barely noticeable pale patches. I have so much more energy. I really didn't realize how tired I was before. My doctor says the Arava only works in about 40% of cases, but that when it does work it is amazing. And I have to agree with the word amazing. Just an FYI.
