Guest guest
I don't have any experience with non-medical therapies, but I would like to caution you about the steroids. I was on steroids for a little over a year and it caused me to have a hump on my back and gave me the beginning of cataracts in my eyes and high blookd pressure in my eyes. You don't mention using Humira or the other medicines in that catagory. I would talk to you rheumy about those meds if they aren't prescribing them for you. In the mean time, see your ophthalmologist and have a good check up on your eyes. ________________________________ From: kettelhutpatty <kettelhutpatty@...> Sent: Wed, December 23, 2009 7:46:55 AM Subject: [ ] alternative treatments for PA/steroids  Hi, I am new to this group and have a couple of questions. I was dx with PA in 05 and have used every medicine available to me without much success. I just got off steroids and methotrexate the end of Sept. I have been on steroids since diagnosis on varying dosages. Most recently,I was on low dose prednisone (2.5mg) per day and still had a terrible time getting off it. I wanted to give my body a rest and see if my adrenal glands would kick in. It took some time but I feel normal again, ie have lost the weight, can think straight, am not an emotional bungy cord, etc. I am sure you can relate. Anyway, I am flaring, of course, and it is looking like I will have to go back on the steroids at least for a time. My questions are: does anyone use non-medical therapies that they have found effective and what do you all do to minimize steroids effects. I have heard of every other day dosing but is there anything else? Thanks in advance and have a blessed Christmas. Patty
