Guest guest
Hi Harriett, I wish I had some magic cure for you but I don't. I had a similar problem, a fever blister on the corner of my lips. It began within one week of combo treatment and lasted the whole YEAR that I was on it. My doctor said it was probably a B vitamin deficiency thing, but supplements didn't help. It cleared up as soon as treatment was discontinued. Have you thought about seeing a dentist? Someone told me later that there is something dentists use for that. Good luck!! Guest guest
I've always had excellent results in stopping fever blisters from actually 'breaking out' by using vitamin e oil at the first sign of one coming on. I've used vitamin e for this for over 20 years and have stopped them cold every time. I think it must have something to do with 'smothering' it maybe? Not letting it get any air/oxygen? Good luck, Betty

Guest guest
If you are talking about fever blisters around the outside of your mouth or on your lip (as opposed to cancer sores inside your mouth), over the past 20+ years I have found a few things that work. First off, you have to do something right away when you feel the fever blister forming and just emerging. The longer you wait, the less effective any help is. Years ago, when I was working in a medical lab, the professor I worked for (who also had cold sores) told me to put ether on the cold sore right away. Ether was something we had available in the lab and it really worked. Again, you had to dab it on the sore when you felt it coming on, and the more frequently you dabbed it with ether, the less painful the sore became and the quicker it dried up and it went away. Not working in a lab and not having access to ether, I've learned that putting ice on the cold sore is as effective as the ether. Again, the sooner you put ice on the blister, the less pain and the quicker it dries up. You need to hold an ice cube on the blister for as long as possible (off and on for 20 minute intervals) and repeat frequently early on. . The longer and more frequent you can do this early on, the less the pain and the faster the blister dries up. Recently, I read in Prevention Magazine that a product called Herpilyn which is sold by Enzymatic Therapy (which you can purchased through Vitamin Shoppe on the internet) is effective for cold sores. Its active ingredient is Allantoin and other ingredient is Lemon Balm. It comes in a tube. I've had mixed results with this, though when it worked, I caught the blister early and had reapplied the salve frequently. Hope some of this helps. Fever blisters are very painful. Good luck. Guest guest
I'm a bit tired, so please overlook incorrect spellings, etc. There are a couple of things that cause fever blister outbreaks without being on the treatment. These are made worse with the treatment. The treatment effects the autoimmune system, making one of the (can't recall right now which) arthritis types worse, beginning or undignosed cancers grow, and herpes, shingles, (cold sores) come to life. If you have not had cold sores in the past, make sure you have your thyroid checked. Low thyroid can cause outbreaks, and the treatment can mess up your thyroid. If you have had cold sores before, you have herpes 1 (genital is herpes 2) and although your thyroid could be the problem, it's more likely the result of the autoimmune attack. Herpes outbreaks occur when there is more of the amino acid " l-arginine " than " l-lysine " in your system. How much lysine are you taking? During an outbreak, I take 1500mg three times a day. (Do not take lysine for more than six months at one time. It will throw your amino's out of balance, causing all sorts of new problems.) I also sleep at night with the following on the cold sore. I puncture a vitamin E cap and put a drop of the E on the sore. I crush a lysine pill and apply the powder to the sore. The E helps to hold the powder on, and helps with the healing too. During the day, I dab licorice root on the sore. I don't know how much you know about herbs, so I'll explain. Health food stores carry licorice root in a liquid form. Internet stores like MotherNature.com carry it too. This inhibits the growth of herpes. It can be taken orally too. Do Not take orally for more than a couple of weeks. Do Not take orally at all if you have high blood pressure. If taking orally, increase potassium intake while using. A banana a day should do it. One dropper squeeze of licorice two or three times a day for the first week should be plenty. (Less if you are closer to 100 lbs in weight.) If taking for a second week, cut down the dose a little the second week. Pay attention for signs of diarhea. Licorice is used to " move the bowels " . Cut back dose to slow up " side effects " . Eat the following foods in moderation during outbreaks. They contain high contents of arginine. Almonds, barley, cashews, grains, chicken, chocolate, corn, dairy, meats & oats. Do Not consume citrus fruit or juices while virus is active. I know it seems impossible to find foods on the " OK " list, so if I eat any of the " bad " stuff, I take an extra Lysine to offset the arginine content. I don't know why, but I always crave citrus and chocolate during an outbreak. Go figure. I hope this helps. The first week of treatment I got visited by both the herpes 1 and the shingles. I was seeing an accupuncturist at the time and he did a few accupuncture points for the herpes and shingles, and between us, they were gone in a week. Guest guest
" Dalene " regarding fever blisters, when i took MTX it did make my blister much worse, be sure you are over yours before you start on it. It does work for many and give it a good change to help you, but do get over the blister first are they will come back. Open invite to e mail off list.
