Guest guest
Maybe you could try to mix it in apple sauce? I did that with my son for a medicine he didn't like the taste of and it worked for me. I don't think the apple sauce would effect the benefits of the probiotic -- does anyone else here have info on that? Patty [ ] I am new and have a question? Hello - I am new to the group and will tell my daughter's story soon but in the mean time I have a question. My 4 year old has chronic lyme and has a milk and egg allergy. I have tried several powdered probiotics and she will not drink them because they taste sandy in drinks. Is there any other way to take probiotics that is easier for a 4 year old who can't have milk/yogurt? Any name brands or suggestions would be great. She is on Amoxicillin for long term and really needs the probiotic - I just need to find a way to get it in her. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ No virus found in this incoming message. Guest guest
Apple sauce is a great idea. Another thought is to buy the probiotic in capsule form, open it and add that to something. Since it would probably be less powder, she might not notice it. When I was little I wouldn't take meds either. My mother, an oldtime nurse, would grind up my pills, put it on a spoon with orange juice and I'd take it that way. It was gross, especially Aspirin, but when she would try to hide it in food, as soon as I tasted it, I spat it out. This way I knew it was just going to be a swallow and it would be done. Have you tried asking your local health food store if there's something made for kids? Good luck! Four is so young. My thoughts are with you. Guest guest
We have taught my 3 year old granddaughter to swallow pills by using small broken pieces of candy. Once she realised that she swallowed bigger things than the candy it wasn't a problem. We also gradually made the pieces bigger Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile [ ] I am new and have a question? Guest guest
I gave my kids an orange flavored chewable probiotic for kids I got in the refrigerated section of my grocery store. Also be careful about doing to much soy, it effects your estrogen in your body. > > > Hello - I am new to the group and will tell my daughter's story soon but in > the mean time I have a question. Guest guest
My daughter takes Transformation Probiotic and I put the powder from the capsule in her food - I do not put it in her drink as she would detect it. Maybe some sherbet or I even put it in noodles right before I give it to her. I put it in almost anything.....my problem is getting her to take the amox!! good luck and hang in there - hope you are doing good as it's hard to have a little one sick. Guest guest
Hello all - we have 3 kids with chronic lyme, babesiosis, bartonella, etc. - 3 yrs into treatment and all functioning pretty well, still some stuff to deal with, but nowhere near where we were. Re: probiotics for 4 yr old with milk allergy. One of our kids is a 4yr old with dairy and wheat allergy so this one hit me... here are some things that have worked well for us: * Goat milk yogurt * Goat milk kefir * Acidopholus (refrigerated) chewables -- she can eat 2 at a time, and they taste great We live near a " whole foods " which makes it easy for us - they have all of this. There is also a probiotic powder that we would mix in the goat milk yogurt with bananas and other fruit - sometimes making a smoothie - and you can't even taste it. Lastly - if you haven't been able to get your child to take pills, I would encourage you to do so, then you can get some high-quality probiotics into her. I have been amazed at well our 4 yr old adapted to this, we just tried few times, and he's a pro - he's been taking pills (what a horrid thought that this is something to consider an achievement in our chronic lyme world!!) since he was 3. The syrups they use are loaded with sugar or fake sugars that are all horrible for them anyway. Hope this helps... - from Southeast PA (Philly suburbs), _MontCoLyme@..._ (mailto:MontCoLyme@...) Guest guest
Thanks for all of your suggestions. Her LLMD has increased her probiotic from 5 billion to 10 billion ICU. I have mixing a 5 bill. powder in peanut butter which working lately. Then, I try to have her take 2 chewables (strawberry flavor) equals 1 bill each and then I have a liquid apple/strawberry flavored probiotic that I have been sneaking into apple juice which is 1 bill. Very frustrating and she really needs the probiotics. I need to go back the health food store and do some reseach.
