Fertility appt

Well I had my first nurse visit today through the fertility doc's office. I

had a baseline ultrasound and a complete blood workup. They found approx.

3-4 smaller sized cysts, they don't know if it's left over from last months

cycle or starting from this month's cycle. But they were all under 13 they

said I could proceed with taking the clomid. I start day one today and take

them for 5 days. I go in saturday for the clomid challenge test, and then

back on day 12 for a second ultrasound. As long as the ultrasound is good,

then I take the hcg shot and then it's up to God from there on in. I am

nervous..... but at least I know this doc knows what he's doing, he's

extremely educated on PA and s so I am lucky in that sense. Last doc

just gave me pills and told me to call in 3 months if I wasn't pregnant....

ugh! I wasted so much time with that quack.

My son also had an appt today, and luckily enough there was a genetics

counselor on staff today. We asked what the probability that another child

would have the same issues as our son's autism spectrum disorder. Good news

is, that there is only appx 1-6% chance which makes me feel better =))

I will post my lab findings when they come in =))

Have you had Clomid before? We call it CloMOOD. It made me a mess.

I was up to over 200 mg. It also made me feel like I was going

through menopause - hot flashes, totally snappy/crabby, you name it.

We decided we'd never do that again!!!

Our first son was conceived on Clomid. Actually I miscarried one

before him. We got pg on the last round we were going to try. Have

they told you about using Robitussin? You take plain Robitussin, the

usual dose, from two days before until two days after you ovulate.

The times I tried it was when I finally got pg on Clomid. It's cheap

and worth a shot!

My 7 y.o. DD has severe autism, as well as other chronic problems,

from being born 17+ weeks early at 18 oz. I know how scary the

thought of another child with ASD must be. She was our last, and

hers is due to her brain damage from hypoxia, so I don't have to

worry about that now.

Let us know how it goes!

Yes, I was on clomid before. My last doc handed me a script, it had 2

refills and he said call if you get pregnant!!! Nothing like this doctor,

this one is sooo thorough!! I don't remember it having much of an affect on

me the last time, my husband didnt either or he would've said no way (he

wont allow me to take prednisone at all hehehehe =) so we'll see. I've had

a migraine for two days and every one of us here at the house is sick with a

cold so I would'n't know what was clomid or what was cold lol.....Who told

you about the Robutussin, I've never heard that before. I dont know when I

ovulate so wouldn't that be hard? I know I go next thurs for an u/s to see

if the clomid worked so I don't know.....We decided we would try this for

the 3 months, and then if it doesnt work, that is fine, I have a wonderful 5

yr old that I am truly content with and focus on him, and I'm ok with that.

I am sorry to hear about your daughter, I am sure she is a blessing

though! I felt alot better when I found out the % of it occuring with the

next child. is very high functioning so I am blessed in that sense,

his teachers and docs say he's too smart for his own good =) His problems

are more social than learning....but he's on clonidine and metadate and is

doing extremely well. I just keep praying about the situation and God will

work it all out how it's supposed to be and I will be blessed either way.

You probably were on a fairly low dose. I had to keep going up. I

was on it total for 16 months...increasing all the time.

It was a very common thing on the infertility board I was on at the

time (9-11 yrs ago). Many RE's " prescribe " it. It thins the

cervical mucus. I asked my doc about it (family practice) and he

said it makes total sense. It's a mucus thinner.

I had to chart my basal body temps while on Clomid. You should be

able to tell when you ovulate that way. If you're having u/s's it

should be apparent when you're close, too. Of course my whole issue

was annovulation, so that was why I did temp charting - even before

Clomid.

My DD is really smart, too, even though she tests as a " 2 yr old " on

average. She just turned 7 and is in 1st grade and is working at,

and a little above, grade level with accomodations (she's

functionally non-verbal). She is an incredible problem solver. :-)

Best wishes .

Clomid, at least the higher doses, drove me crazy. I felt like I was on an

emotional roller coaster. My huband, bless his soul, said it wasn't really as

bad as I think it was. Either way, it felt bad to me.

In the next coming months, with visits to my new rhemy and a new ob/gyn, I'm

hoping that I can start looking at the pregnancy thing myself. I'm just worried

about the PA meds and what they could do to a developing child.

Thanks, I definitely will.... I'm nervous and excited all in one....this may

not be the best time to be having another child, but we both want another,

my son wants a sibling...and doc's say its now or never..... so it's all in

God's hands now =))

I tried looking up my last dosage because I do not remember, but this time

it's 50mg and I've read that is the average starting doseage, so I'm not

sure. I have been in bed since 3:00 and I just got up. I have a cold too,

so I can't tell if it's the cold/flu or the stinkin clomid causing the

problems right now. I am taking them at night before I go to bed, that way

if there are issues, hopefully I'll sleep through them hehehehe.... I have

been having hot flashes, but then again can't tell if its cold/flu or pill

=((

I think I'm gonna call the ER doc and ask him if I should be doing this

too. It makes total sense now that you've explained this. It sounded kinda

funny at first hehehehe...

I haven't had to do this, I've tried in the past and not done too well at

it, I bought a generic thermometer at target and I think I got what I paid

for lol....I have my next u/s on Tuesday and that will show if the clomid is

working and if it is I will get to take the HCG shot that day, tic wed, and

then by March 21st I'll be able to take a test (they said 14 days after) I

wonder if it would work if I took the robitussin for the two days after my

u/s on tuesday? Is it just robitussin or is it any decongestant (mucus

thinner) ?

Aren't they just amazing?!!! It is awesome she's doing sooo well!! Isnt it

just amazing what they come up with? How they come up with ways to do

things? The things that come out of his mouth sometimes leave me

speechless.... it may not have been how I would've come up with the

answer/resolution.... but his was truly creative and ingenious. We have a

good combo of meds right now, so we're pretty blessed. I am relieved to

know that there will be alot of genetic testing on this pregnancy should it

happen =)

I sure appreciate all your input =))

It needs to be an expectorant. I think that's guafsenien? I always

buy the store brand. You just want the " non letter " type - no DM or

CF, etc.

You need to get a good basal body thermometer. I broke about 8

mercury ones (shaking them) before I found out there are digital

basal thermometers. Basal ones are more accurate. Also, you have to

do it while lying in bed before getting up - b/c your temp will go up

just by getting out of bed.

I'm really surprised your RE isn't having you do temp charts. I took

them a year before Clomid and it was obvious I was not ovulating.

Finally on Clomid I saw how a " normal " chart should look. I was up

to 300 mg before I got pg.

We're in the same boat..... in my first pregnancy everything went away....

but then hit me like a hammer just shortly afterwards..... I am confident

though that I have a good set of meds to start after birth and I'm hoping

everything goes dormant during pregnancy this time

=)) Thanks!!

Hello,

I, too developed PA after the birth of my first child (about 3 1/2 years

ago). I am now pregnant with my second (23 weeks). My psoriasis on my

elbows and scalp is better, but my toe nails are not. My PA is also a

little better- less pain and swelling in my right foot and toes, and my

sternum pain is almost non-existent (this pain used to be so intense that

laying down to sleep or sneezing was excruciatingly painful). My back still

has a lot of pain, but not quite as much as before I was pregnant. My left

knee was better after a cortisone shot prior to pregnancy, but I notice

lately it is acting up again. The PA is spreading into my right index

finger (new development since pregnancy), so that is worrying me as I am not

taking anything until after I deliver. Overall, I'd say I know the disease

is still there and active, but my pain level and swelling are not as intense

as before.

Hope this helps...

But checking temps will only *help* :-) It will definitely let you all

see if the dose of Clomid is actually working...but then I guess your

u/s's will show that, too.

Hehehe, if it doesnt work this month, I'll get one just to see =) There are

two girls at church that went to the same doc and he didnt have them do that

either, of course they both went straight for the IUI and skipped the

tic....
