Guest guest
Todd, I am taking Vioxx for inflammation for undiagnoses bursistis in my hips. Vioxx is for pain, works on pain receptors, but works on the inflammation created directly, not just on the pain first. In other words, it is not a 'pain killer' in that regard. Many older people (I think I am slowly joining this group) use it to help their osteoarthritis inflammation. ~ Gretchen
Guest guest
Hi Rainy, My pharmacist was just saying in general that the internet has more on drugs, than anything he can get. He was really surprised at what I found out right here. I think they do need us, to keep them up to date. Hope you are having a good day, Me Mom ---------- > From: Rainy <rainysu@...> > > Subject: Re: [ ] vioxx > Date: Sunday, March 25, 2001 5:00 PM > > Wow! Really? Your pharmacist is six months behind? I had a steroid shot the first time I went. It helped for a few days but then the pain was back, not continually but it kept waking me out of a sound sleep. So my primary doctor gives me four vioxx pills and tells me to try them out before I go back to the orthopaedic doctor. It eased the shoulder pain some what, but the pain still woke me up at night, You know all the aches and pains we get in the back area and the knee's,ankles, all over. Well I got up in the morning and I thought someone had given me a new body, not a pain in sight. I came down the stairs with a little spring in my step and as you know thats not easy with our feet. I felt I could have gone out and run a marathorn, what a feeling. Unfortunately I think the vioxx caused a bit of fluid retention, because my weight increased 4 to 5 pounds in one day. I have read somewhere that people with edema or taking a blood thinner, probable should not use the vioxx. The trauma from my ankle fussion caused a little edema in my lower leg that I still have. I shall clerify this with the doctor. I never realized what these new pain killers could do E > Hi everyone , > Wanted you all to know several of my family members have CMT and they are on > 30mg MS Contin, 4 Lorcet plus a day for break thru pain and also > antidepressant Paxil, they are doing just fine able to motivate and not be > so drugged up. Re: vioxx - to > From: Gretchen Glick <liliwigg@...> > To those of you finding Vioxx helps with morning stiffness, what time of day do you take 1 tablet? I was previously on one in the morning and one before bed, and that helped. But then my cholesterol went up, possibly indicating liver problems, so now I'm taking one in the morning with breakfast. But getting up out of bed in the morning is pure hell with the pain and stiffness in my feet and lower legs. Maybe I should try taking it before bedtime? Do you need to take it with food if you lie down after taking it? I know some of my meds will cause heartburn if I take them on an empty stomach before lying down in bed. Thanks for the info! And I do agree, it is a wonderful drug, and we do need a generic...my insurance co. gives me fits every 3 months or so! As I had stated previously I only took one pill a day, and I only had four pills in all. I hate to take medicine, pills, anything that is not natural to my body. There are some medications that's a must, I understand, Vioxx is not one of them for me so I won't take anymore, because of side effects I feel it may cause. I would say you should be in close contact with your Doctor and have faith in what prescribes and ask a lot of questions E > > > 13. Guest guest
Thank you Gretchen and E for your experience with Vioxx. I have just worked my dosage back to bedtime so I will see if that helps my mornings. And I am to have my liver tested again next week to see if the cholesterol has gone down, or if I need to modify my diet to lower the cholesterol, or stop the Vioxx altogether. I will also discuss it with my new(to me) neurologist. I'm feeling like things are shaping up finally, after 5 months off work. Thanks again for responding with your experience! I remember Gretchen saying that it eventually goes away. I wouldn't mind taking one of those now and then, it would sure help my golf game. By the way Grechen, from 259 lbs I'm down to 234 lbs. Man do I look svelt :-) E > Thank you Gretchen and E for your experience with Vioxx. > I have just worked my dosage back to bedtime so I will see if that > helps my mornings.
