Re: [ ] WEIGHT GAIN- Sudden/Excess ?!?!

Donna,

Could be................could also be why Provigil.........not only helps

with the brain fog, by waking up the brain.........but it also helps with

weight loss.

More and More LLMD's are prescribing it........because it stimulates the

brain to wake up, takes you out of that lyme fog! (guess its like speed in

a way)

I can't even drive my car in the morning if I don't take Provigal. I have

develped a strange problem with my eyes, in which when they relax, they look in

separate directions, which causes double vision. Happens when i have to focus

in one direction - driving. So I was driving around, seeing double - 1st there

was 1 car in front of me - then it would magically splitt in 2. Or, it started

affecting my periferal vision, by making things from the side of the road jump

out in front of me. Oh that was fun...someone walking on a side walk, all of a

sudden my eyes see the person walking in front of the passenger side of my car.

I would start jerking the wheel. Friends were afraid to drive with me...

So eye doc added Prisim to my perscription - allows eyes to relax, but hold

focus. It helped, but once I went on Provigal, what a major difference. Makes

me much more alert in the morning - especially since I take meds that make me

drowsy. Same for the afternoon...

Since I am now pregnant - we determined that even though there may be slight

risk - we had to way the slight risk of the med vs the major risk of my

driving...We chose to stay on the med - doc said that was a no brainer. I take

1/2 to 1 in the am and 1/2 in the noon. At one point I was up to 2 & 2...these

central nervous system problems really suck!

Provigil is a central nervous system stimulant..........wakes things up and

alters your mood.

Its used in Narcolepsy.......(people who fall asleep without prior knowledge

its going to happen) .

I suffer a sleep disorder........and find I can live without it at the

moment.

Hopefully one day I will

My eyes do the exact same thing. Except mine will be alright most of the day and

then around 3 or 4 it hits and I can no longer see. I cant wear my glasses

because they make me dizzy. So everyday I see double and I cant focus or

sometimes just can not see at all. I guess I should see my eye doc. Like right

now I have to keep shaking my head to be able to see straight.

I would see an ophthalmologist that has seen patients with Lyme.....you may

have uveitis or iritis in the eye causing the focusing problems.

It made me feel like a stoned squirrel LOL I will try it again, after this

herx and at a lower dose. I have days/weeks where I can sleep 20 hrs a day.

It seems that Provigil is a love/hate med, either it works and you love it

, or it doesn't and you hate it. I know 2 twins that suffer narcolepsy, one

cant live without Provigil, and the other cannot take it.

I have insomnia and suffer from sleep deprivation. So my mind is not always

intact when I need it. Is that another thing this med is used for? Or does it

just wake you up and you cant sleep when taking it?

Hi,

Provigal tears my head up. A Dr. had given me some samples some time ago and

tried it but didn't remember why I didn't take it. Tried it again after

reading about it here and took less than half of a 200 mg tablet and that was

three days and am just now getting over it. My head was sooo bad but I have

migraine and can take very few meds. without a worse migraine, my head is

still humming. Just shows how individual we all are. I can take Ritalin for

my sleepiness in very small doses and I like it but is hard getting a

prescription for it.

I've never taken Provigal but I know it is a very powerful

stimulate. There are clearly people here taking it that really need

it. And I admit, I don't have some of these problems (but I do have

severe fatigue). Personally I wouldn't mess around with these kinds

of meds except as last resort (which sometimes it is). My non-

medical opinion.

I never heard anyone say what u have. It works differently than ritalin or

dexadrine. It doens't borrow energy. It just promotes wakefulness. I didn't have

youre experience. Perhaps it didn't work for u because u don't have other

aspects of this disease under control. It works great for me, but Oxford eill no

longer pay for it, so I'm screwed.

I can only share my experience with Modavigil (same as provigil,

modafinil being the chemical ). Ive used it in the past when I was

sicker, especially to help with uni, but I rarely use it now.

I found that everytime i took it, while it would improve energy, and

brain function while i was on it, that energy was nearly always

borrowed from somewhere else, (somewhere else that didnt exist mind

you) and that I would pay for it later.

The maximum number of days I ever took it in a row was 3, and the 4th

day when i didnt take it was a write off. (ie even less energy and

brain function than usual)

I only take it rarely, on days when I have to perform, or be at 'peak'

functioning.

So to answer your question about taking it every day, maybe some can,

but I dont think I could.

I think you misunderstood what I was trying to say. It made me wakeful

(as apposed to fatigued), which I would call 'energy' in a sense. And

I would use this wakefulness to be productive, but it could make me

crash by over-doing things. (ie if i didnt take it and was fatigued, I

wouldnt push myself without realising, like I could do on the Provigil

/ Modafinil).

And yes another reason i dont take it much anyone is because it is

very expensive :(

Sincerely,

.

yes, it is very expensive. No matter how well I'm feeling, I know I have to

rest after a few hours. I work, so if I make it 5 hours w/o having to rest,

it's a lot. I don't know how long you are sick, but eventually you will know how

to listen to your body and not crash. Today is a beautiful day, I worked 3

hours, and even laying out in the sun would exhaust me now. I have to go to bed

and lay down now, before I do anything else. I hate that laying outside is

not restful to me, and laying in my bed, is. But, at least I can work and feel

very good compared to years ago. I actually can sleep while on the provigil.

Which I am going to do right now, and hopefully have some of this beautiful day

to enjoy.

Hi All

I am wondering if anyone has tried Provigal or is on ot now and I am

wondering if they had any side effects to it

This is a drug that is being used with Fibromyalgia and was originally

used for narcolepsey

Adrafinal,.....Provigal,......Olmifel,......Modifanel....Ritalin

These would be all the drugs that I have found around the net that

have been used for people with Fibro because of the tiredness

I have seen that provigal is prescribed the most and I want to gather

as much info on it when I see my doctor next week

I think that my PA is doing great with enbrel and arava. I just need

to get the fibro under some contol and maybe have a normal week where

I am not a sleep all the time.

I have been on lyrica for almost 4 months now and it has really

helped with the fibro pain...Unfortunately it adds to the tiredness

and I am sleeping a lot

Any help or info or advice would be appreciated

I have been taking Provigil for extreme fatigue since I developed PA

and was told I also have Fibromyalgia. It has made a tremendous

difference to me in that I can now have a more normal life instead of

being so tired all the time so I could barely do anything. Some days I

notice that I am a little more jittery, but I just watch the decaf

coffee and iced tea and that helps me. I think it's a miracle drug. I

have really not had any side effects from it and I feel much better

when I take it. The generic name for it is Modafinil.

I'd recommend trying it and see how you respond. You can always stop.

I feel pretty normal after I take and not wired, just normal energy so

I don't feel exhausted.

Good luck,

Hi June, I'm a long time member (1999) that hasn't been back to the

site in years. Your's was just the first message I read when I came

back for a visit tonight.

Anyway... My doctor prescribed Provigil for me about 4 months ago and

though I hesitated taking a stimulant, the drug has done WONDERS for

me. I usually have to take Ambien to get a good night's sleep, but it

usually left me feeling extremely tired if I didn't get a full eight

hours of sleep. Sometimes, depending on what I did the day before, I'd

feel exhausted no matter how much sleep I got.

When I started the Provigil, I would lay the pill next to the bedside

with a glass of water. When the alarm went off, I'd take the pill and

lay back down. In about 15 - 30 minutes I would be wide awake and

feeling like I'd just drank three cups of coffee.

The doctor tells me they aren't habit forming, but I still don't take

the Provigil every day. Just on days when I have something particular

to get done. I've been told I SHOULD be taking then EVERY DAY and

shouldn't worry about addiction, but I haven't seen the downside of

skipping a day or two. It's just me I guess.

The only negative side effect I have is a dry mouth. I definitely

suggest giving Provigil a try if your doctor is behind it. It's given

me back so much time that I had been wasting in bed trying to get my

sleep in. Good luck!

Thanks Jim and ....

Good morning to everyone :)

My doctor wrote rx for me

I am now waiting for my insurance company who needs it preapproved

from my doctor

My doctor warned me that he would prescribe it more but insurance

companies dont want to pay for it

he told me to collect articles on it so I can show my insurance

company if they try to provent me from taking it

Anyone reading or having articles on this drug please send them to

my email or the group so I may prepare for battle

I am buying 5 today so I can try it ( My doctor told me he would

prescribe 200mg and for me to break them in half for a short while)

So I can at least try them and see if they are worth fighting for

I would love to get some control of the fibro the way my PA is now

controlled with Enbrel and Arava(they gave me my life back too)

hi Jeanette

Thanks

I have started it and I am only on 100mg(breakk the 200mg. in half)

and I find it helps a lot with the tiredness and sleepiness

I haven't had to take a nap all week since I started it.

I am now beginning the process of getting my insurance company to

pay for it.

ProvigilDrug(modafinil) is actually helping me through the process

(Drug company VS Insurance Company) Interesting......

They have also offered to send samples to my doctor as I begin the

battle so I wont have to pay the huge amount

I have Horizon Blue for Medicare D for anyone who may be having the

same problem

The Provigil site has a number that you call and the advocate for

you with your insurance along with some help with meds

They do want this used for more then just narcolepsy ($$$$$)

I spent time googling and found some pretty interesting articles on

it
