Guest guest
Dear Peggy, My daughter did HBO for lyme at a center in Deerfield Beach, FL. At that time my inusrance paid for some of the treatments (United Healthcare). Our experience at this center was great! They were very professional and kind and knowledgeable about treating lyme disease with HBO. My daughter had a total of 70 treatments in two segments of 40 and 30. The tank was state of the art and a single occupant tank. It has been over 4 years since her treatments and she is doing quite well overall. I credit the HBO with " putting her over the top " and perhaps saving her life. Sheila @...: peggyblumhagen@...: Sun, 2 Mar 2008 12:51:09 -0800Subject: [ ] HBO Thank you Steve and :I appreciate your responses. I did get ahold of the HBO center in Garden City but they said that Lyme is not an approved diagnosis for HBO (they are a wound center). Do you have any ideas where I could find an HBO center that would take my insurance? Also, I've heard that we can buy individualized units to use at home. Have you heard of this?Peggyjk k <win6060@...> wrote:Hi Peggy,my daughter did hyperbaric O2 for 6 weeks in a monochamber when she was 4. I have heard from her LLMD that the effect, however, is not long lasting. We " messed " up the gain we made by celebrating after her treatment by going up to a very high mountain ski resort and she got very very ill. We didn't realize it at the time but her body was so used to going below sea level, that when we went to 8,000 feet above, she got really sick and landed in the hospital. We did this 5 days a week for 8 weeks. At the end of that time, there was improvement.2 atm necessitates an individual chamber. To save costs, some centers offer a larger group chamber, but these do not reach to the level of 2 atm. Lyme affects different people differently, and, I believe, consequently, different people respond differently to the same treatment. In each individual, lyme symptoms wax and wane. Our son had improvement from HBO, it lasted several months, after which he began to feel more ill, but not as bad as when he started. So, in conclusion, I am glad that we used HBO. It had a positive effect on our son. However, it is not a cure all.Steve____________ _________ _________ __> To: > From: peggyblumhagen> Date: Sat, 1 Mar 2008 08:49:33 -0800> Subject: Re: [ ] Dr ' s>>> Hi>> I have four children with Lyme. Guest guest
Thank you Sheila: How did your doc present or what type of dx code did he give to get the HBO tx approved? We have United Heath Care (cobra) paid by the State of Kansas because we qualify for Medicaid and its cheaper for them to pay the cobra than all the bills. I had aetna last year and they were great. My previous employer changed my insurance company on Jan 1st. United Health Care is busy trying to deny all of our claims that were previously accepted (shots, IV's). I'm glad to hear that HBO helped. It gives me some hope. I hope to get this under control and killed (if possible) before my teen girls consider marriage, since it is sexally transmitted. It has been one of the most traumatic experiences of my life to find out I had Lyme as well as all my children. Thanks for your encouragement and support. Peggy " S. Guest guest
Hi Peggy, I am not certain what the doctor (Dr. in CT) wrote on the prescription but the clinic arranged for 25 treatments to be paid for in full. United Healthcare works under the premise that if they deny often enough you will eventually give up and they will earn more profits. I had United until this year and I continually fought with them for over seven years. This is how these creeps operate. Don't stop submitting. I know it is hard but they are counting on this. Also, get yourself a lawyer if United is obligated to pay and they are holding out. Tell them you are hiring a lawyer to get them to honor their contractual obligations. Perhaps go to the press (and let United know that you intend to do that). I tried complaining to the state (Florida) insurance department and was told to hire a lawyer because they have no teeth. Regarding HBO for the kids, it was very expensive and I am sure it is more now but it was well worth it for my daughter. She was on two antibiotics as well as doing the treatments five days a week and sometimes twice daily. It generally takes fewer treatments for kids than for adults. Also, a single chamber is better than a multiple chamber. Good luck and be well. There is hope. My girl is now a sophomore in college and is doing quite well. She will never have the same energy levels as before lyme but at least she can live her life. Now I am working on getting my other daughter to that point. Am contemplaing HBO for her too.
