Guest guest
Hi Mark, I had chest and rib pain a few years ago that took me to the ER. more than once. It would come on unexpectedly, almost always at night. The pain was sharp, and grueling. I can remember that it hurt terribly to take deep breaths and it was hard just to move period. I would bury a pillow in my chest and carry it around with me when I would get up. It was so bad that I had trouble taking deep breaths, turning one way or another, etc. After all the tests and X-rays, they concluded that the pain was not heart related, or pleurisy, which they had suspected. I was told after several ER visits that most likely it was just inflammation around the bony skeletal part of my chest. MY MD agreed and prescribed anti inflammatory medication. At that time I knew very little about inflammation and what it does to the body. Since then I have symptoms of PA , including pain in my shoulder, hands, fingers, toes, ect., along with psoriasis. I am on something for inflammation nearly all the time now and the chest pain has never reoccurred. Until reading your post this morning I never related it to the PA. Now that I look back, it probably was inflammation moving around and was part of PA ,but I had no idea what I was dealing with at the time. Also, I had hernia laproscopic surgery for a hernia last December. I had a terrible time recovering because of nerve inflammation. I wonder if that happens with some people with PA when surgery is done? . You know, the only thing that helped me was a nerve block and anti inflammatory meds. The narcotic would help for a time, but I could barely move around until the nerve inflammation went away. I never knew it could affect your whole nervous system like that. I hope this helps. Also, thanks for solving a mystery for me. Guest guest
Hey Mark, I was just recently diagnosed with PA, but one of the first places where I noticed pain was under the left side of my ribcage. I'm a massage therapist and at first I thought I had just pulled something, but later realized it was a symptom of the PA. My pain lasted for about a month and then it went away. I haven't had any pain in that area since. Good luck and I hope your pain goes away as well!! I have to say out of all the joints (and in me it is all) that PA attacks those were the most debilitating and painful. There would be times that breathing was all I could do. Flat out bedridden because you can't move. Haven't had them involved for a while and I hop it never happens again. The only thing I've learned in the over 30 years I've have this to offer you is.......Keep moving, no matter what. Good Luck to you Duane
Guest guest
Costochondritis is not unfamiliar to many of us. Movement and breathing can be very painful. for me it comes and goes and has not visited for quite some time. Breathing deeply and coughing can be very challenging as well as position changes. Wishing you better days, Mo . 10:23 AM 4/7/2006, you wrote: >Has anyone had any involvement of the ribs and soreness in the ribcage? > >Mark
Guest guest
Hi Mark, Absolutely both front and back. Have had it so bad it felt like I was having a heart attack, I just fell on the pavement and couldn't move. I was at teacher training college at the time, it scared the crap out of my fellow students. LOL Took me to the medical centre and I feel asleep and the pain was gone when I woke 2 hours later, they wouldn't let me drive home. Rheumy told me it was part of the PsA. Luckily if I rest it goes away. Hope yours is not so bad. I haven't had that type of pain for quite a while, so I must be doing something right, definately maybe! Keep the light shining, Ian. > > Has anyone had any involvement of the ribs and soreness in the ribcage? > > Mark >

When removing my gallbladder didn't remove the pain, I started blaming it on the PA. It's most likely to show up after I've done something to traumatize the area -- stretching too much, carrying boxes etc with them resting against my ribs, sleeping on my Walkman (don't ask)... I've also had bouts of costochondritis (inflammation of the sternum and chest wall) -- ===================================================== Stein EBAY: http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQfgtpZ1QQfrppZ25QQsassZalliQ5fatticQ5f42 WEBSITE: http://www.noblefusion.com/astein BLOG: http://www.livejournal.com/users/astein142/ ----------------------------------------------------- __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Hello Mark, Yes I have had PA in the sternum / rib joints on my left side. When it first appeared it gave me a huge fright as I thought I was having a heart attack. My son took me up to the emergency department and they run tests which all came up clear. Needless to say my pulse rate and me blood pressure had elevated hugely. My husband had died a few months previous to that of a heart attack so I was petrified. It wasnt until quite some time later that I realised that it was PA. regards Dianne Canberra Australia [ ] Ribs ? Has anyone had any involvement of the ribs and soreness in the ribcage? Guest guest
Dear Mark, Yes I actually just wrote about that in my list for the doctor. I don't have it anymore but for a couple years I did. I imagine it will come back eventually like all other pains do. Good luck! murfsurf69 <camutil@...> wrote: Has anyone had any involvement of the ribs and soreness in the ribcage? Guest guest
I get rib pain. It often comes on suddenly and as I have had pluerisy twice and a type of pnemonia I sometimes wonder if it is because of that but I assume it is the arthritis as I can still breathe without agonizing pain. Seems like several people have said they get it on these posts.
