Hey Shirley...I am pretty convinced that part of the issue is gluten, which is in wheat, rye and barley. When I cut them out of my diet, my pain goes down by 90% or so. There is a high correlation between PA and celiac disease (gluten intolerance), but celiac is very under-diagnosed in this country.
Guest guest
Hi Looking thro all these emails - 116 of them - had no idea that this would await me in my inbox - and most of them talk about insurance and the horrid drugs. Perhaps they've all tried diet - and perhaps not but really - for me - it was also the coffee my dear - and the yeast. I feel so great - just want to share all that. Guest guest
Hi Shirley, I am very interested in your comments on diet. I am a newly diagnosed PA and on methotrexate for 3 weeks so far with little change and no change with skin. I too have noticed almost immediate problems after having yeast products. I thought it might be the medicine or something because that is new since I've been on it. I hope you can tell me more. Everything I've read so far says no correlation between diet and relief. Guest guest
Hi Janice I've been having pain and discomfort for many years now and when Vioxx was happenin', i loved it and it gave me relief. Now - I needed to go on to methotrexate and everything in my body and mind refused to go there. So - a friend recommended that i might like to try going off all yeast products and coffee. I did - had a headache for a day and just drink my Roibos tea - without sugar - and no yeast - just crackers or any of the wonderful products we now have without yeast and my god - i feel wonderful. As a result - i dropped weight - immediately and i assume it's the yeast products that caused this rumbling inside of me - yeast factory in my body that screamed for sugar - Which of course yeast needs just like in bread - and on and on i w ent. I got fed up with this feeling - not wanting to take the heavy duty drugs and started my regime. How simple and how much better i feel. In the mornings i still have this pain in my feet so it takes a bit to get going but really - nothing like before - it last for a few minutes and now if i take an advil in 2-3 days - well then i will but for the most part - i don't need to go with 600 mg of advil as soon as i can reach for the bottle and then again in the aft. Today i'm going to the drug store for a candida cleanse and continue to clean up my body. I have no trouble not having sugar - and treat myself with a candy every once in a while - just sucking on it gives me that sweetness that i need and really - no gobs of butter - no dairy - just yogurt in the a.m. with my granola mixture and i'm good to go. I'm a potter and spend many hours throwing and have no trouble with that. I'm now going to try cider vinegar - think it will be good for my joints. It's not a cure, i don't think - perhaps so - but it keeps things manageable without horrid drugs. There may be a day when i may need to resort to something stronger but you know - i don't think so. It's so much to do with diet i think. I can move my toes now - wiggle them when before - there was no independence in my joints at all - they were all stiff. I can now start walking again and see what happens with that. My psoriasis - under control with duvobet - awesome stuff and yes, cortisone is not exactly a good drug but it keeps that from spreading and me feeling all patchy and red. I went to the Cayman Islands for xmas and spent alot of time in the salt water and i think that helped my psoriasis as well - sun and salt water. My nails are still compromised - rough and weak and don't know what will happen with that but we'll see. My skin specialist agreed with me that vinegar helps psoriasis very much so - whenever i remember - i use vinegar on my psoriasis as well. Hope this helps and please - if you have questions or want to discuss - feel free. Just email me. Guest guest
Hi Janice Have you tried refusing yeast products? And Coffee? I feel so much better - a tiny bit of pain when i walk but really - nothing like it used to be. And the spin off - weight loss. Try these in earnest and see what happens. Like Baking is good for us???? don't think so. I love my ryvita crackers - anything without yeast and as a result - no coffee means no sugar. I still suck on the odd candy but that may leave me too. Good luck - give it a try shirley --- shirley enslin <shirleyenslin@...> wrote: --------------------------------- Hi Janice I've been having pain and discomfort for many years now and when Vioxx was happenin', i loved it and it gave me relief. Guest guest
Shirley, I have a question do you not have caffeine at all or is it just something in coffee? You do allow yourself sugar right, just not yeast? Guest guest
Hi Jeff I do not drink coffee or anything with caffeine. Just Rooibos tea - and other herbal teas i guess - i drink rooibos. No bread - nothing with yeast and this has cut back on my sugar tremendously. I have lost weight and now - it's about a week and no pain killers. I actually walk down stairs without pain. Hard to believe but true. So worth a try. Guest guest
Hi Just drink some Rooibos tea or something else that you can find that has no tanine or caffeine - herbal - good for you teas and try that cat's claw - i checked it out at the health food store and it apparently works wonders. As for the bread - i love breads and baking - i don't miss it at all - i use ryveta crackers and others like it - check for the yeast content - and love the crunch. Ryveta with seasame sees - hmmm - delicious. You will find your butter consumption dives - sugar - (no coffee) and dairy - only yogurt in the morning with granola. I love my new diet and love the fact that i'm losing weight - have no pain and stopping the horrid killer - sugar! Good luck and if you like - give me your phone and i'll call you. Please email that to my enslin@... email. Shirley --- " carolsmisc@... Guest guest
Hi Jeff as a result of no coffee - i have no dairy - except for yogurt and my sugar consumption has pretty well stopped. I suck on a hard candy every once in a while - and a treat - but really - my sugar bowl is not touched - never drink pop - not even diet pop and i drink juice - don't worry about sugar in that and lots of distilled water. Tea, juice and water. I've always known that sugar is our silent killer and wanted to stop the use of it and now i can. And you know what? without the yeast - my body is not constantly asking for sugar - (it needs sugar to reproduce in your body and that's why the cravings) so - no yeast and as a result - no sugar. No coffee - just tea (herbal) and i feel terrific. I realize that we're all different and what may affect you may not affect me but the change is so darned noticeable that i couldn't stop from telling you. Just try it - it's not as big as you think - i think the pain is bigger and i have only this life to life and the minutes are ticking. I'm a potter and love my art and i love gardening - and i love just being able to walk - and now i go down my stairs to my studio with no pain. No pain! can you imagine that? I can hardly believe it sometimes. No yeast - there are so many lovely crunchy crackers out there - no coffee - gorgeous teas and no dairy as a result - and no sugar except for the odd hard candy or treat that i feel i can't do without. those darn christmas candies - When i go to the store - i don't buy this candy and that one - and maybe a bar - i don't and i don't buy cookies and perhaps bake this cake - it's not an issue for me and i save on my grocery bill - feel terrific and clean my body of those horrible things i was putting into it. I don't even take advil anymore. So - Jeff - today - stop it and see what happens. It's not as if you'll be depriving yourself of something good for your body! Someone told me that we need bread - never heard that one before but i think she must of meant grains and how many other ways can we get grains! I like to make my own granola mixture with oatmeal and nuts and coconut - toss with some olive oil and honey and into the oven for a few minutes and that over yogurt is my mainstay and has been since i started. Fills me nicely - good for me and everything moves so nicely in me. Love it love it love it and wait to hear from you. shirley --- shirley enslin <shirleyenslin@...> wrote: --------------------------------- Hi Jeff I do not drink coffee or anything with caffeine.
