I was just diagnosed with PA though I have the toe swelling, the

tendon pain, foot pain, nail issues and now increasingly bad

psoriasis. I live in the Boston area on the south shore and am

looking for a Dr who is involved with any new treatments and/or

research. I just want a clearer picture of my options and I am afriad

that the Rheum...Dr...I saw is not well versed enough. A Doctor

associated with a teaching hospital would probably be best. I am

disappointed that even eastern medicine and holistic medicine doesn't

have a lot of advice for PA. Thanks for the help!

Hi leonfortinjr,

I've been seeing Dr. Mark Robbins (rheumatologist) at Harvard Vanguard

in Somerville. I've been very happy with him. I like that I'm

involved in the decision for what therapy to pursue. He laid out the

various options, made some reccommendations then asked me to consider

and get back to him. I made the decision to jump quickly to MTX.

Luckily for me it works very well at a low dose. He doesn't seem to

be into " new " therapies, but I feel that if you went to him and told

him your thoughts he could be open to some newer therapies.

I had also seen a post about another reccommended Boston area Dr.,

though I can't remember the name.

My advice is to learn as much as much as you can about all the

different options, then choose one that suits you. Have a back up

though, as you may have read, not every method works for each person.

Stay Well,
