Guest guest
Hi, After my accident my Chiro gave me a special pillow with the divet in the center. I have slept on it ever sense. I also will roll up a towel and put it under my neck and that will work well when I am sitting in my recliner or before when I could lay on the floor. I have a reverse curve in my neck. So although these things do not take away my pain every little bit can help. I have also tried reflexology, lavendar oil. Pt and message therapy. I get headaches also and terrible pain inbetween my shoulder blades along with my neck. I don't go to Chiros anymore but can understand not being able to pay to go a couple times a week. It can get costly. I have also gone to a Naturepath before and they can do muscle tests to see where the problem is. And then they do adjustments also. But it is done differently than the chiro. (At least through my experience)The relief I got from this lasted longer than that that I received from a Chiro. HTH Take care, Katrina :-) > > My neck & shoulders are almost constantly in pain and now are causing major headaches. I went to my chiro who adjusted me a couple of times and I started feeling better but at $40 per visit I can't really afford to go that often. She gave me some stretches which don't do all that much and told me to put ice on my neck which somewhat helps. I have a feeling it's partly the way I sleep maybe. Can anyone offer advise? My neck muscles feel tense, always feel like they need to be massaged, my neck feels like it needs to be stretched, etc. > > > > Bumper's Tribute Page > Animals In Need's Webpage > Animals In Need's Mailing List > I am Boycotting Canada until they end the Seal Hunts! > Click here for more info > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > __________________________________________________ >

Guest guest
I have a reverse curve in my neck also!! One of my doctors called it a military neck I believe. When I sleep I usually pull the pillow all the way down to my shoulders but my chiro said that that might be making my neck pain worse. All I know is that no matter what I do, my muscles never feel like they can relax. Even when I'm laying down and am completely comfortable, my muscles still feel tense. I guess there's nothing to really take care of this with the reverse neck? Katrina <sweettoobeme@...> wrote: Hi, After my accident my Chiro gave me a special pillow with the divet in the center. Guest guest
i have often wondered how it would feel to go to the chiropractor. sometimes i really think that that is what i need; i've heard that it's helped a lot of people. the only reason i dont is because of my ex-wife. she worked at one before us and was given free adjustments, but she said she always felt like she had to go back, that the pain eventually started to feel worse to her then before she went - if she didn't go in for an adjustment. so i have not had the courage to try that route yet. maybe reconsider, or talk to your family doctor before going back. not saying thats the problem, just offering up my only real reference to chiropractors - which isn't much. take care rob >From: JenieGirl <jeniegirl27@...> >Reply-neck pain >Back-Back/Neck Mailing list <neck pain > >Subject: Neck pain causing headaches >Date: Sun, 16 Oct 2005 11:33:47 -0700 (PDT) > >My neck & shoulders are almost constantly in pain and now are causing major >headaches. Guest guest
I have headaches and migraines that my neurologist said is caused by neck and shoulder muscle tension. I take several medications for the muscles, to decrease the tightness, and that helps (baclofen and zanaflex). I also take topamax for migraine prevention, and imitrex for when I get a migraine. I'm also currently using a TENS unit for my neck/shoulders to help with the pain/spasms. I've been doing physical therapy once a week for about a year for the neck/shoulders to decrease the tightness in the muscles, and I do stretches at home twice a day. > > My neck & shoulders are almost constantly in pain and now are causing major headaches. Guest guest
Hi Jenie I had the same thing before I had my neck fusion. My neck and shoulders always felt like a board. Moist heat helped alot I got one of those neck wraps that you could heat in the micro and it was wonderful. Also have someone massage your neck for you to relieve the tightness everyday if you can that will help alot too. The best thing I can tell you is to relax yourself too, the pain causes you to tense up and it just makes it worse. I know cause I went thru it all myself for a long time before I found a dr to fix me. My prayers are with you I know how much you are suffering. Just take it one day at a time. Also don't do any lifting if you can that will make it worse too. Hope some of this helps. Guest guest
: if your PA or for that matter any osteo-arthritis you may have has affected your neck, it can definitely cause headaches. (I'm a good example.) My internist prescribed a nerve relaxer and physical therapy, the latter - she said - being the most important. Problems with your upper back can also cause tension type headaches because there are some nerves that go straight from there into your brain.  ly, though, it sounds as though there's more going on since it seems to have come on so suddenly. I've never used Remicade but I hope those who have can tell you if their joint pain increased with it. Sure doesn't sound quite right . . . . . Are you taking anything for your fibro?      Joanna Hoelscher
Guest guest
Hi , If I were you I'd check with a physio person. They can tell you if you have a pinch nerve or maybe tension related. PA can affect your spine so I would have it checked. I had neck pain once from carrying a gym bag to go to the pool. Therapy fixed it right up. Good luck SD
Guest guest
 , Sorry to read of your issues with your neck. I had mine broken by a nitwit semi driver in April of '93. A c1 c2 fracture...it usually kills 98% right outta the box...1 1/2 become quad and paraplegics and then you have the 1/2% like me. As a result of being in a Halo device, the pa and life...my c1-5 are fused...thus causing my c6 and 7 to be subluxed. Meaning they don't rest upon each other as they were designed to.  Suffice to say this has presented a very strange thing to happen with regard to balance and such...the point of all this rambling is this... I have had FABULOUS results with myofascial release. It is a gift from the Creator himself.  There is a clinic in Sedona, Arizona that teaches it...if you email or write them to locate a PT in your geographic area they will help you. Tell your rheumatologist that you want an Rx for therapy and go and get it...Dr.'s are not Gods they are just people with more schooling...you are paying them to do for you...if they won't...find a doc that will.  I have found that after having pa for over 25 years...that thinking outside the box is truly helpful. I have a knee replacement, hip replacement, have no vision in my right eye and limited in my left that I try to maintain with injections to my eye and so on...am on Humira and take Tylenol to help with discomfort.  My worst pain was being married for 21 years... " ) Everything else is a piece of cake!  Thanks for reading and hope you feel better soon!!!  Kath'
Guest guest
Joanna, I take 25-50mg of Elavil for the fibromyalgia. I finally got in yesterday to see the internist who's covering for my regular doctor. He agreed it wasn't a fibro flare since it came on suddenly and didn't follow my normal pattern for my fibro pain. He did feel it was a real possibility it was a side effect of Remicade due to the timing and sudden onset. After an exam where he found many very tight and painful muscles he prescribed Baclofen and ordered some cervical xrays just to make sure there's no structural problem. Probably won't get those results til next week but the muscle relaxer is starting to help relieve the headaches and pain. Hopefully in a few days it will be back to normal...at least normal for me. It's just frustrating to feel that your rheumy isn't really hearing you and kind of brushes you off onto someone else. Has anyone had their rheumy fill out the DMV form so you can have a handicap parking placard? I really would like to apply for it so it would make my life easier to run errands even when walking is painful but I'm embarrassed to ask him for it because he always acts like my pain issues aren't that big of a deal. He gave me an prescription for a one time fill of regular Vicodin last year but then followed that up with a remark that I shouldn't need really need it. Thanks for listening! Guest guest
, Yes, I did ask my rheumy for script to get a handicap parking permit and it was no problem. I've had it for about 12 years now and it is wonderful when I have a series of errands to do. Also if I'm shopping at a mall, I can't carry very much because of my hands and I make frequent trips to the car. Much easier when you're not out in the middle of the lot. I also have been having neck pain and am looking forward to the rheumys visit on Thursday.
Guest guest
Go to your DMV office and ask for a paper for a handicap sticker, fill it out, then take it to your doctor and have him/her sign it, That's it then you go back and get your sticker. If your rheumy doesn't want to sign it, go to your GP they usually do it. I actually have a handicap plate on my car after it got so bad I had to use a wheel chair. Guest guest
, I had my doctor fill out the paperwork for a handicap tag December 2007. I was diagnosed June 2006 and just hated to admit I needed it until then. And yes, it was embarrassing to me to ask for it but my rheumy was very nice about it and tried to make me not embarrassed. That first one she checked " possibly will improve " and it was good for one year. When I had to ask her to fill out new paperwork this last Dec. she checked " not likely to improve " and this one is permanent. This time, instead of being embarrassed I was depressed to see that marked on the form. But I should have expected it - I've pretty much resigned myself to accept that this is as good as it will get, which is very good compared to where I was 3 years ago. But, still to have her admit she's resigned to it too was pretty depressing. I don't use it that often, but when I need it I really need it. If the P is bad on the soles of my feet and they are all cut up, I just hobble and every step is excruciating - but I still have to get groceries or go to the doctor, etc. And although my PA is much improved with Humira, if I stand or walk too long my ankles will give out and I will need it then, too. Anyway, don't hesitate to ask for the help you need. Every step you can save is one more step you can use for the shopping or getting into the doctor's office and it means you won't pay for the trip for weeks with increased pain. Have you considered trying a different rheumy? Yours does not seem to be listening to you very well. He has no way to know how much pain you are in except by what you tell him. If he does not trust what you tell him, that is not a good patient-doctor relationship, in my opinion. Life is hard enough with PA without having to justify yourself to your own rheumy! best regards, sherry z
Guest guest
Hi, Kath. Sounds like you've really had a rough time of it. Are your eye problems related to your PA? best regards, sherry z
Guest guest
: I've never felt I needed a handicapped placard but I have a friend with RA who's doctor gave her one. Ask your internist if you don't want to ask your rheumy. I think any doctor can get you one. Guest guest
Kathy - I can't agree with you more about physical therapy. My rheumy didn't order it but I was going to post-op PT (rotator cuff/biceps tendon repair due to a fall) when I was diagnosed and she said that as long as it seemed to be helping me, she would continue the order for it. But try to find a good physical therapist who is trained in a variety of techniques so if one doesn't resolve a particular problem for you, he/she can try another.  Myofascial release is a good and one my PT's use it a lot but it's only one of a whole bag full of " tricks " they have. It took my PT several months to " unlock " the key to one of my problems because it stemmed from some kind of injury that was very old and the injury was very deep.   Joanna Hoelscher
Guest guest
Funny in a not-so-funny way. I too had the same thing w/ my rheumy last wk. I had intense pain- different than fibro pain but he is convinced it is a fibro flare (I have PsA too). I get so sick of other people thinking they know my body better than me!!!! The pain thing too- I know not everyone has much pain w/ PsA- maybe I have more b/c of FMS. But I feel ashamed about asking for more Vicodin when I need it. And vicodin doesn't always even help much. I think it is so drilled into us that narcotics are bad and so there is a sense of shame and secrecy that goes w/ it- even when it is appropriate to use. And so when did rheumys stop treating fibro? Years ago when FMS was " new " to me- it was a rheumy that I saw. Now the rheumy I see doesn't seem to care much about treating the FMS- just the PsA. And my regular doctor think my rheumy should treat. Just venting mainly I guess. in MN
Guest guest
I finally got the courage to ask my PCP to sign the paperwork for placard. I found the form online and filled out part of it and the doctor filled out his part, then I took it to the Tag Agency here in Georgia. I know each state may be different but checking online may save a trip. Dotti
Guest guest
Eva, Thank for suggesting my GP...It hadn't occurred to me that I could even ask her but at least it's another option if I don't get the rheumy to sign it. Thanks!
