Guest guest
Hi Vicki- I'm 27 and I just had my 3rd knee scope done in May. Ialso have a knee that needs to be replaced. I have no cartilidge left and had a lot of bone spurs and synovial tissue that had to be reomoved. Recovery is of course, different for everyone, but mine took a couple of months for me to be really back on my feet. I had 6 weeks of physical therapy, and have continued a lot of the exercises at home. Riding a stationery bike or swimming is great for your knee. Keeping the surrounding muscles strong really helps. I only have 2 tiny incisions and I had the sutures out in 4 days. I'm not sure if this of any help to you, but let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck - - In , " smilin4dannme2002 " <smilin4dannme2002@...> wrote: > > Hello all, > I saw the orthopedic surgeon yesterday...He recommends arthoscopic > surgery on my R knee..I have alot of fluid and cartlidge floating > around in my knee..He said I have never seen a knee this bad on a 42 > year old and you are very close to needing a knee replacement...and > I would hate to have to do that at this young age.. > > He injected it but it did not help...he said he would inject it even > though he thought it would not help..I agreed because if I dont try > I wont know.. > > Has anyone out there had this done..Any feedback you could give me? > Does this surgery help? Guest guest
Vickey, It might not be the same thing because my sister didn't have PA at the time she had a car wreck and the cartilage was floating around in her knee also. she tried PT everything until she went to another Dr. who said that with all the fluid he was sure there was cartilage damage. They made 3 small incisions and took the fluid and broken pieces of cartilage out, my sister is a BIG BABY when it comes to surgery, she thought that it would be months before she could walk again and thought I was going to carry her around. I asked the doctor about it and he said that as soon as I got her home to make her walk up the stairs to her apt. that the faster she started moving it the faster it would heal. I would say it took her about a week of limping around and then she was fine. Of course everyone is different and she was not Dx. with PA at that time whether or not she had it at that time we don't know, she does now. Also she had day surgery. Like I said every one's body is different and I hope that you heal as fast as she did. You will be in my prayers (the extra ones for people I know that need a little more) to let every one that you are all prayed for nightly and daily by me but I have a extra prayer for the ones doing worse than we are at the time. Guest guest
Dear Vicki, Like you, I have two pretty bad knees. When I saw the knee surgeon, he wanted to replace both of them. He told me the same thing your doctor did, that my knees were the worst he had ever seen. I haven’t done anything yet, since I’ve had other problems come up and sort of put the knee issue on the back burner. I mainly wanted to let you know that I have bad reactions to the steroid injections as well. I found out though that it is the numbing agent (Lidocaine) they add to the medication or use before the injection that causes most of the trouble. I would have an allergic reaction every time and it seemed to be getting worse with each injection. I didn’t get headaches, but my face would turn red and burn, as well as my hands. I also had trouble breathing a couple of times. The only real way to find out if the trouble is the steroid or the Lidocaine, in my case, is to go without any numbing drugs. I found it really doesn’t hurt any more without the Lidocaine. I think the burning the Lidocaine causes hurts almost as much as the whole injection. It’s over fast, but it really does burn. So far I’ve only had my knees injected without Lidocaine, so I can’t tell you how it would feel in a hip or anywhere else. But it really is no big deal to go without Lidocaine with your knees. Good luck with your knees and what ever you decide to do. I hope if you have surgery it is a huge success and you feel a 100% better. Take care and let me know how the surgery goes, Fran
Guest guest
, I'm 34 and am definitely on the road to knee replacement in my right knee (I've had arthritis for 24 yrs). How is your dr. feeling about doing it since you are young? What type of knee are they going to put in? Each time I bring up knee replacement my dr. just says " NO " and won't talk about it, because I'm " too young " . But my knee is in agony unless I make do for a few months with Synvisc injections to help lubricate everything. Any information about your own situation & dr's thoughts would be greatly appreciated. -Marietta > Hi Vicki- I'm 27 and I just had my 3rd knee scope done in May. Guest guest
I have had arthroscopic 4 times and each time the relief was impressive for several years, back on my feet in less than two days each time. After 20 years, I finally had a TKA on my right knee and that has been a godsend. Do your PT, may i repeat- do your PT religiously. Good luck [ ] Re: Knee surgery in 2 weeks...OOOhhh I dread it!! > > Hello all, > I saw the orthopedic surgeon yesterday... Guest guest
, I am having arthscopic surgery on my right knee to take out bone spurs and clean it out..I would think that your doc would at least consider that..My doc said I was definitely too young but that he hates that I am in so much pain..He is a very caring person..He said he had never seen that much arthritis in a person my age..I think that if your doc os not at least open to arthoscopic surgery to give you some relief for now then I would consider getting another doc...I wish you the best and my surgery is on Thursday any prayers would be appreciated.. Thanks so much, Vickey > > , > I'm 34 and am definitely on the road to knee replacement in my right > knee (I've had arthritis for 24 yrs). Guest guest
marietta,....tell your doctor [who says you are too young for a knee replacement]that you are too young to be crippled by this disease [. But you are ]..so you are an exception and need to have some quality to your young life . ans that it would seem necessary to relieve you of pain and the surgery is necessary for you to walk without pain and so you can enjoy some quality of life .. cathy from ma

Guest guest
Hi Marietta- My doctor is the one who has brought up the topic- he has told me that whenever i'm ready- he'll replace it. He has concerns b/c I am young, but has said that he wants me to have a fulfilling life. You should consider finding a more open doctor. You shouldn't have to live miserably. The reason I have not had it replaced yet is b/c I am not ready...I'm just back to work from my last scope and starting to enjoy things again. My surgeon is also hopeful that I'll make it another couple of years w/ my own knee. So , it's up to me, when i'm mentally and physically ready- it will be done!!! (Not sure if that makes much sense to anyone else?) What state do you live in?? Maybe someone in th e group could help you locate a new surgeon. Good luck-
