If I find I can't stomach the liver pills can I take a b- complex with niacinamide if it's the only kind I can find? ==>Yes, that's fine but do buy niacin also and take it separately according to my article. >I know you mentioned Nutritional flakes and about a year > ago (before going on this diet) I tried taking a TBS in water and > nearly vomited. ==>Maybe that was a fluke. I find it taste quite fine, but mix it in warm to hot water first, mix well, and add cold water so you can drink it; take it in about 6 ounces of water. > I'm going to try to sprinkle it on my food, but I can't imagine getting more than a few teaspoonfuls in that way. > > 2) I've been using 6 oz of ginger tea once a day for my electrolyte drink. I just pour 6oz of tea in with a squeeze of lime and salt. What would be a medicinal amount to ward off nausea? Or should I take ginger pills? ==>To ward off nausea don't have ginger in with lemon. Have ginger tea separately. > > 3) Should any supplements be increased, like cod liver oil. right > now, I'm taking 2 tsp, should I take 3? ==>You don't increase supplements just for pregnancy. But I don't know if you are taking enough - what brand and how much omega 3s, A & D is in it?? > > 4) Are enemas a bad idea during pregnancy? ==>Yes. As far as the cod liver oil goes, I'm taking Blue Ice Cod liver oil: 1/2 tsp contains Vitamin A 5750 IU Vitamin D 575 IU EPA 145-375 mg DHA 150-360 mg Is this enough? Guest guest
I just had to reply here as this has me concerned about the vitamin A supplementation during pregnancy. Back when I was pregnant I began my researching and supplementing. I studied and researched nutrition and vitamins for years. Well, I started taking vitamin A in my second pregnancy. I had a son who was born with a heart abnormality and had to be flown to Mayo Clinic at 3 days old. I did not see any correlation to this vitamin. Then during my 3rd pregnancy I had another son who was born with a hole in his heart and a narrow valve. I was supplementing with vitamin A again. This son had to have heart surgery at one year old. Both of my boys had different heart defects. I started to research this and read that vitamin A can affect the heart of babies while the mother is pregnant. I never told my doctor, as I felt guilty and ashamed that it was my fault. But I do believe that may be the cause. My two daughters--the oldest and youngest were fine and I did not use Vitamin A during those pregnancies. I did not take alot of it. I only took one 10,000 iu capsule a day. I used it for my dry eye, and sinus problems. It did help and I still use that and cod liver oil for those problems. I'm just saying be carefull. You are not taking enough. The high vitamin Blue Ice cod liver oil gives more bang for your buck because you need to take less. For details on different CLO products see the Nutrient Comparison article. Bee

You should only take " true vitamin A " not beta-carotene and you must also take vitamins D & E and omega 3 from natural whole foods like cod liver oil, fish oil, etc. along with it! These vitamins should never be taken in isolation from each other because it can cause problems. Synthetic vitamin A is a problem, but any vitamin A (true retinol) must be taken with vitamins E, D and omega 3. There is a new article all about Vitamin A and the false studies and information at www.westonaprice.org written by Masterjohn. What I recommend will never hurt you or your baby IF you take all of the supplements recommended and don't leave anything out. Bee

If I remember correctly I think it contained 77% RDA per 1/2 tsp and I was taking 2 tsp of that. Anyways, I switched to Blue Ice as my daughter and husband won't drink Radiant life's cod liver oil. I've been taking 2 tsp of Blue Ice everyday for the past 3 months now. I have not started on Vitamin E yet, as I'm still waiting for my special order from Sun Harvest. My questions are: 1) Would it be better to switch back to Radiant Life with their added Vitamin E? If so, would it be enough Vitamin E, or would I still have to supplement. 2) Should I stop taking Blue Ice cod liver oil until I get my Vitamin E? 3) Should I not give my daughter any more cod liver oil, because Blue Ice doesnt contain any vitamin E? How do I get Vitamin E into my daughter's diet, so that she is not harmed? Bee and all moderators! I just want to say Thank You so much for answering ALL my questions. You all are so wonderful! I don't know how you all do it with your busy schedules, but youre doing an amazing service! Thanks, >

I gave vitamin E to my grandson when he was 9 mos. old and he loved gumming the capsules and he swallowed them with relish. He'd crawl into my kitchen and put up his hand (opening and clutching it) saying " vits, vits, vits! " > > Bee and all moderators! Guest guest
Hi, I am almost 13 weeks preggers, and I haven't noticed any change in my arthritis. I've read that many women have their arthritis go completely into remission for the duration to their pregnancy. I have also read that it gets better and better as the pregnancy progresses, so I'm just wondering what everyone's experience has been. For the Mamas on this board: When (at about how many weeks) did you notice that your arthritis started to get better? Did it go away completely? When (how long after you delivered) did it come back? Thank you for your help! Jill
Guest guest
Hi Jill, I just had my two girls back to back (18 months apart), so I will share my experiences with each of them. With my first I went into remission just shortly after the second trimester started and stayed pain free for about four months post- partum. I thought that because I was nursing that maybe it stayed in remission, but my second proved that theory wrong. My second daughter is six months old now. Remission took much longer with her pregnancy. It finally kicked in around the 24th week. I was having to use some vicodin for pain control after I couldn't use ibuprofen anymore. I was really discouraged that it wouldn't happen because I loved how good I felt with my first. From 24 weeks on I felt great. My current and worst flare I have ever had is currently happening and started about 4-6 weeks post-partum. I have a champion nursling that doesn't like the bottle so I am still nursing in pain and using ibuprofen to take the edge off. I can't wait for her to wean now that I am ready. Everyone is different but I sure hope you get to experience some freedom from PA during most of your pregnancy. Good Luck and keep us posted on your pregnancy. Guest guest
My arthritis did not go away completely. The pain in my sternum and ribs went away almost completely for a while, my knee and foot/toe joints got a little better, but my back was still bad. The psoriasis near my scalp and my elbows went away, but my nails stayed pretty bad, and I still had it on my scalp. I'd say I noticed improvement about week 12, but nothing went away completely. Matter of fact, about week 34, I noticed my right index finger getting stiff each morning (new joint for me to be affected) and the pain in my sternum returned a bit. I'd say overall, I had a 25-50% reduction in pain, and maybe a 25% reduction in inflammation. Good luck to you!
Guest guest
Hi Eeytcheson, I appologize as I didn't see a first name in the post, otherwise I would have said it, I was just reading your post on how you dealt with your girls and their pregnancies. I am not pregnant right now, but my husband and I would like to have kids someday, but we are concerned for my health and want to learn all we can about how we tackle pa and a pregnancy. I noticed that you said you took Vikadin for your pain as the IBProfen you couldn't take anymore. I'm thinking that you can only take Tylenol when pg? Am I right? I mean for basic pain releavers? I currently take Hydrocodone for my pain, and I wasn't sure if that med had an affect on the baby while in womb. just cuz I'm curious, would you mind sharing what other meds you take, and ifyou could stay onthem or had to go off of them during pregnancy? Here is a list of my current meds below for reference and to compare notes. *smiles* Effexor XR 1 a day for depression Loratadine ( Clariton) 1 a day allergies Naproxon supposed to be 3 a day, but only need 2 anti-inflamatory Hydrocodone usually 2 in AM and sometimes 2 at bed but its as needed Sanctura 2 a day for bladder control Alprazolam 2 a day for anxiety Ambien 1 at bed for sleeping Methotrexate 20mg per week for the pa Some sort of stool softener Think that is most all of them, I have so many lol. Just wondered if you could shed some light this way. I suppose its good to do all the research I can on this. Thanks in advance, Carla in NE
Guest guest
Jill, My PA was already in remission when I became pregnant with my seventh (and last!) child. I had not had the PA in the 6 previous pregnancies (well, I had the P but not the A!). I felt fine for the first 2 trimesters, but the last trimester was very difficult compared to previous babies. I was just so exhausted and had a lot more cramping & pain than previous pregnancies. This could have been due to the fact that my body was just getting " worn out " , but looking back I am sure it was an onset of PA symptoms. I felt like I was going into pre-term labor, with lots of pain in the lower abdomen. I felt like all the muscles were so " relaxed " that they couldn't even hold the baby in! But they did, and despite lots of early cramping starting about the 28th week, I actually had to be induced on my due date! I simply couldn't go on any longer, so I insisted. I don't mean to scare you, I hope I haven't. It wasn't anything serious, I didn't really take any pain relief besides Tylenol. But I think it's important to realize that if PA flares up during the end of the pregnancy like mine did, you will feel a lot more sore and perhaps think you're going into labor when you're not. So you'll just have to watch it carefully. Is it your first pregnancy or do you have a previous experience to compare it to? I would say that it began at about week 28 for me, but was in remission the 2/3 of the pregnancy. It did not start to come back until my son was about 1 year old, and was still in partial remission until he was about 2 years old. I wish you the best, and please feel free to write me offline if you have any questions about pregnancy in general. I've been there a few times!
