Guest guest
Jayson, my fingers pop EVERY time I bend them. My ankle and knee pop when they are hurting. I mean a loud pop, that makes other people in the room say, " What was THAT? " I never had any popping until the PA started. Mine came on as suddenly as the pain and has not stopped even though we've got the inflammation and pain somewhat under control. I'd always heard that popping joints was nothing to worry about, though that may not apply to those of us with RA or PA. My rheumy just nodded when I mentioned it, as though it was typical for her PA patients. shall we call you " weasel " ? sherry z > > Hi everyone, > > I have a question for you. I'm experiencing something new....:::rolling eyes::::. My left ring finger middle joint is doing a weird popping/cracking every time I bend it...it's really stiff, and sometimes it hurts when I bend it. Guest guest
popping joint Jayson My fingers lock and pop a lot and I don't know if that is due to the arthritis or deteration... I would definitely talk with your doctor and maybe they can x-ray it or something to see if there has been a slight change or major... Guest guest
Great party trick. LOL. Yeah, I think I'm gonna have to talk to my rheumatologist about it. Thanks for the well-wishes, and thanks to everyone who responded. Jayson
Guest guest
Hi Jayson, I have the same thing...mainly in the middle joint of the middle fingers and some times my index fingers and thumb. I asked my Rheumy and she just nodded and noted that my joints aren't inflammed so I am ok. They sometimes get stiff so I pop them too to get relief. I think technically, when your joints " pop " it is because there is air inside the joint and when the air escapes, that is the " pop " you hear. But I also have this same problem with my jaw joints...they pop a lot. I have had TMJ for at least 10 years and it was noted 5-7 years ago that I already had osteroarthritis in those joints. But is it PA? I was diagnosed with pre-TMJ when I was 10...I was born with small condolyes and so it was likely I would eventually get it. Also...I was told last year that I am double jointed in my fingers and knee joints. Most people who are double jointed go on to have some form of arthritis or joint problems in life. It has something to do with the joints always over extending themselves and therefore wearing down. So to my already long list, I have tendotisis in my knee...that is from a mix of double jointedness, injury, and probably PA not letting it heal. I don't know if that helps or just raises more questions for you...but for me it is just a reality check that not everything wrong with me has to do with PA. I mean I have that problem with all my fingers at times minus the popping/cracking.I have a question for you. I'm experiencing something new....:::rollin Hi Jayson, It sounds to me like what I went through in the early stages of the joint destruction of my fingers. I have, probably a mild version of the Mutilans type of PA (If there is such a thing as a mild version! lol) During the early period of this my fingers seemed to be triggering. Do you know what I mean? There would be resistance when I tried to bend the finger or straighten it out? By the time the 'process' was completed I had a couple of rubber fingers. The pinkie of my right hand and the ring finger of my left hand are both shot. The pinkie of the left hand was going through the same thing but seems to have been stopped in its tracks since I started the Enbrel and MTX. It is quite difficult to bend. Do you think it is possible that this is what is happening to you just now Jayson? Hopefully, if it is, the fact that you have restarted Enbrel will slow down or stop the deterioration completely I forgot to say that I have significant shortening of the affected fingers (approx half an inch) and they can both be moved in just about any direction you care to choose. lol Good luck with the Enbrel.
