Yes my periods started getting strange on the start of the methotrexate.

But we found out I had an ovarian cyst that I just had surgery for, we will

see if they start again.

I have had fatigue and have thought it is probably caused by both and being

in pain all the time. I have not had any issues with my period thankfully.

Hello Kat,

Fatigue is one of the symptoms of PA. You need to listen to your body. Take

power naps. I know it might be hard since you are a teacher. Make sure you rest

your feet. Good shoes are a must. Let your principal know and your team of

teachers. It might help to educate them on PA. Maybe telling your students might

ease it a bit.

I am 33 and I was diagnosed in 2006. I tried methotrexate for a while, but it

was getting me sick. I tried Enbrel for a few months and it was working fine. I

had to interrupt it when I got pregnant with my second child. And now my body

became immune to Enbrel. I just started with Humira. No big changes yet.

Hoping you well,

Hi Kat,

It's a total bummer about the psoriatic arthritis. I too was recently

diagnosed(3 months). My rheumy told me that we needed to start with

methotrexate. Insurance companies won't cover the other drugs if you haven't

tried this one first. Maybe that is your case as well. Methotrexate is

supposed to take 4-5 months to work. My dose has been increased. I am seeing

results. I walked with soo much pain that I forgot what it was like to not have

it when I'm walking. I still have pain but much less. In fact, I went from an

8 to a 3 which feels like a 1 just because it's better but the fact is I do

still have pain. Anyway, there is hope.

I get super tired too. Some days it feels like I could sleep all day or even if

I've napped, I can go to bed at a regular time and fall asleep. I hear it's

part of our disease.

Thank you for bringing up the period. My first month on methotrexate, I had

severe cramping and heavy flow. The second month it was less flow but but still

cramping. I have always had cramps but just not that bad.

I feel for you when you say people don't understand. I think I've aged 5 years

in the last 2 and I have young children (10, 8, 6). When you don't have a label

or don't explain how difficult each activity is, people have no clue. I guess

that's the heartache of psoriatic arthritis.

Yours in support,

Sandy

For most people, fatigue is an integral part of PA. MTX is also notorious for

causing intense fatigue for a couple of days after taking it.

Hi girlykat6

I don't think MTX will have any bearing on whether or not you have kids but you

may want to check with your doctor on the odds of your kids having the same

problem.

Going on hormones (birth control) is a simple way to

deal with the pain/emotions/fatigue that goes w/ periods...

That was prescribed for my daughter (THAT was wierd, buying bc pills for a kid

who doesn't get out of the house!!) As I understand it, take the pills w/o a

break (don't take the last placebo week, just continue on to the next set of 21

pills) for 3 months (four sets of pills).

Hope that helps.

Well you can't become pregnant while on it or for some amount of time after

stopping it so some people do have to choose between taking it and children

or more children.

Hi Kat.

I saw some of the comments and wanted to make a point clear to you. I am

finishing my R.N. this year, and also have PA and am on MTX. Methotrexate is

often prescribed to END a pregnancy and/or deal with an early miscarriage.

Should you be interested in having a child, you need to work closely with your

rheumy and OB/GYN to make sure sufficient time for the MTX to get out of your

system. Make sure you use careful birth-control precautions to avoid

unnecessary heartache and pain.
