Hi Janice,

Maybe the welts on your face could be rosacea?  I can set your mind at ease

about the small red blisters, my dermatologist said they're caused by hormones.

Nothing to worry about.  My husband and I both have them.

Janice: I have headaches too that are related to the arthritis (osteo - not PA,

my rheumy says) in my neck. Sometimes they're really awful when my neck has not

been treated for a while by my physical therapist but I can always tell when I

need treatment because they come at a lower level in terms of pain but they're

almost 24/7. I too had sinus headaches - started when I was about 13 but not

diagnosed until years ago when I developed asthma and asked about them. He did

a ct scan and sure enough, they were all scarred up from the ear infections I

had as a kid. They finally went away about 15 years ago and a lot of allergy

shots.

Janice,

I've had seasonal hives my whole life.  They start in April and last until

September.   They used to only be on my arms and now I get them on toes, neck

trunk and legs. When I was a kid I used to take quinacrine to help reduce the

number of hives, but have since stopped taking that medicine.  I find that as I

get older, the severity of them is reduced, but I get them over more body area.

A couple of months ago I broke out in pinpoint red dots all over my body too. I

assumed it was related to the very bad flare I was having at the time. In

addition to the hot, red, swollen joints I had a low grade fever, fatigue and

weakness. my skin got very easily irritated (would get bright red when they took

my pressure, etc) and extremely itchy. then the rash started on my arms and

eventually spread everywhere. Little red dots slightly raised. Some of them

looked like little blisters. I thought it was heat rash at first but when it

spread to my whole body my mom thought it was an allergic reaction. she took me

to the hospital and they admitted me. After tons of tests the docs were stupid.

The only thing that was off was my sed rate. They told me that it was psoriasis

but it went away after the high dose of IV steroids. I saw pictures of psoriasis

and it looked nothing like what I had. I know it wasn't psoriasis and they just

said that cause they didn't know what it was. My skin remained itchy for about 2

weeks after that (I was on oral prescription itch med and used tons of Aveeno

and Cortaid). The rash started about a week after I stopped taking prednisone. I

was on 15-20mg's daily for 7-8 years. I think it might be related to stopping it

but I weaned myself off correctly. another medical mystery.

I've had PA without psoriasis for over 10 years and always worry about getting

the skin issues. Other than some nail pitting, discoloration and separation from

nail bed my doctors and I have wondered if I had psoriatic arthritis or some

other autoimmune disease. However RA and lupus factor are negative and docs feel

that sacroiliitis, spondylitis, and finger joint damage are consistent with PA

(though I have large joints affected too).

Does psoriasis get worse when you have flares in arthritis? Not to go off topic

but does anyone else have systemic flares with low grade fevers, fatigue, flu

like feeling in addition to swelling redness and heat on affected joints? I get

flares with swelling redness and pain but about once a year I get these systemic

flares that require a hospitalization. they subside with high iv doses of

steroids (though swelling and pain lessens but never completely subsides).

A couple of years back i had a sinus infection that wouldn't go away. lasted for

over a year. When I saw the ENT he used a scope to look at my sinuses and said

that they were so inflamed that they looked like hamburger meat. he also said

that I needed surgery to open them but due to my compromised immune system that

I was a bad candidate for surgery. Eventually it got better after a year of

allergy meds, sinus washes, nasal sprays and ointments.
