Guest guest
Hi , I can't help you much with the geographic tongue- I don't have it but my baby does. What I remember reading states to avoid spicy foods, and I really can't remember what else. I would love it if you are anyone could point me in the direction of any information regarding this. I remember reading the tongue and psoriasis were thought to be related (to which I thought " oh great " as I have very bad psoriasis) but I wonder really what causes that. My baby is 1 and has had the tongue thing going on since he was a few months old. He has eczema type skin occasionally but no true or at least not horrible psoriasis type patches. B. And I don't usually post here- so I'll just say I'm 35 and have had terrible psoriasis since I was 14, developed hip/back problems on/off since about 20, and just this last year I have issues with my left hand as well. I am not currently on any treatment as I am med-phobic...have tried almost everything at one point or another. Always interested in alternative treatments to these conditions, and their causes, etc.
Guest guest
Hi there! How funny I was about to post this question. My tongue feels decidedly thrushie too and looks physically as you describe. My problem is that while I dont have full blown mouth ulcers my tongue constantly feels like it was burned on hot coffee- the entire tongue. It is currently so annoying that the taste of food is different. I am having a hard time even chewing a sugar free gum. Anyone else have any issues and or suggestions? I am down to 5mg prednisone with my 12.5 mgs of methotrexate and 1 mg of folic acid- I hafta tell ya-if I am under 10mgs on the prednisone I am in pain but the side effects of the pred are horrid. I am low enough that I could come off the prednisone completely but I am a chicken. In addition, my left ribs hurt and the very bottom of the rib cage whenever I sit down. This is new in the last 2 weeks. I am frustrated. thank you gang
Guest guest
Reading these postings is always such a learning experience! I'd never heard of geographic tongue but looked it up and there's a ton of stuff on the web about it. Every site says something just a little different but most mention a possible association with eczema, psoriasis. No cure - comes and goes. Avoid things like citrus or anything else that might cause irritation if you had a spot on your tongue that was " bald " (for lack of a better term) and didn't have the usual little spots that are on the rest of the tongue that protect it. Seems to be a hereditary factor involved. Vitamin B may help; topical steroids (in the mouth???) may help. That's as far as I got but all pretty interesting. Check it out and read on . . . . . . Guest guest
, I am wondering if your baby has developed any further symptoms of psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis? My daughter has a geographic tongue and has had it since she was 2 (she is five now). She is exhibiting some signs of psoriatic arthritis already and I am wondering if there is a link between early onset of the disease and geographic tongue. Curious as to your experience! Guest guest
do you feed your daughter yogurt . It will help any yeast type infections but you must feed it to her everyday . frozen yogurt will not work . cathy from ma
Guest guest
Hi there, Yes, we do eat yogurt. But more importantly, I give both of my girls a daily probiotic, which has helped immensely with their immune system health, I do believe. Her geographic tongue tends to flare up when she is fighting a virus or infection though and was curious if anyone else with psoriatic arthritis also had a geographic tongue. It doesn't seem to bother her.....
Guest guest
Not just any yogurt will work for this either. You need to get yogurt with live cultures. A Health Food Store will have this, or if you go to Whole Foods, even Kroger or Publix, and look for the brand, Stoneyfield. I personally do not care for this yogurt, but many people I know that eat it, do like it quite a bit. My GI was the one who recommended it to me for GI complaints. Good luck to you! Guest guest
You sound like a very knowledgeble and concientious mother . I feel bad that your child has this . I guess maybe if kids are on antibiotics and other meds that they can be suseptabler to this . Have you tried giving her red rooibos tea[sp]... celestial seasonings and tetly make it . It comes in vanilla, pear, and pomegrante flavors and is caffiene free. It is good for gingivitis ,stomack problems[cramps or gas ] and other. I drink it because it seems to help my skin psoriasis . I drink 2 cups a day . it will probably help that geographic tongue .. It also helps constipation . In other countries it is commonly used in baby formula for colic . it s a home remedy but it helps many problems . cathy from ma
