Guest guest
Hi Good People, It's been quite awhile since I've posted and usually with only questions or requests for info and this post is no different. <grin> For years (since back in the seventies), I've experienced intermittent problems with my hands that were usually diagnosed as tendonitis and/or carpal tunnel. Several times it was my right thumb that would be swollen and inflammed leaving the tendons shortened to the point I can't straighten it out; the inflammation would extend into the wrist causing carpal tunnel pain. More recently, the swelling and pain has been at the base of my little fingers. I can straighten my finger but trying to close it causes enough pain to waken me from a sound sleep! I can't grip nor hold small things in the effected hand. Also, I've learned that sitting in warm sunlight (like in the car)causes my hands to swell generally and become painful. When I asked my primary dr about it, she stated it was probably caused by the fibro. Questions: How do you differentiate between fibro, PA or Osteo pain in a joint? Does fibro cause swelling and inflammation? Many thanks from PattyB in a cool Pineywoods of East Texas
Guest guest
Hi Patti! I don't know a thing about fibro but one finger that was swollen and red from the middle joint to the knuckles sent me to the rheumy. That is when I was diagnosed with PA. That was my right ring finger. Years before (at least 8) I went to a rheumy with finger pain and they couldn't diagnose me then. Now I am having problems with my right thumb. All of my fingers (except my pinky on my right hand) are frozen at the middle joint. They one by one got stuck one day and I couldn't move them (that was before the last and present rheumy). If I had had a proper diagnosis way back then, I might not have frozen joints now! Oh well! Maybe you should see a rheumy? Hope you get a diagnosis and some help!
