Guest guest
I applied in early March and just today I got the official written notice that I have been approved. The local office called me about 2 weeks ago to tell me so. I am to get my first check on June 20. regards, sherry z [Editor's Note: Sherry, congratulations on this important milestone. Guest guest
Thanks, Delane. Actually, it's the Medicare I'm most interested in. I found out that if anything happens to my husband I will have no health insurance - so I needed to apply for SS disability so that I can become eligible for Medicare early, just in case. Does Medicare help you even while you are covered by a spouse's health plan? Will it help us with the out-of-pocket expenses? regards, sherry z > > One great thing about that first check is that it is retroactive to the > official 'disability' date...and two years from that date, you are eligible > for Medicare which is a super wonderful thing especially if it is secondary > to a group health plan of a spouse...like mine is. > > CONGRATULATIONS!!! > > Delane
Guest guest
That is wonderful to hear - Thanks! I assume I will be eligible for Medicare 24 months after my approval date for SSD? regards, sherry z > > My hub's group insurance (Georgia State via United Healthcare) pays first > then Medicare is filed...and YES! Guest guest
Good! They said in the letter that they determine I became disabled April '06. My benefits are retroactive to October '06 because you must be disabled for 5 full months before you become eligible for benefits. It sounds like I might become eligible for Medicare April '08? That would be great. Between loss of income and co-pays for treatment and meds, we can use all the help we can get. thanks again, sherry z > > The waiting period begins with the 'disability date' the SS decides applies > to you.. not the date of your first check and not the approval date....so in > some cases it's almost immediate according to whatever date they determine > your disability began.. > > Delane > > - > > No virus found in this outgoing message. > Checked by AVG Free Edition. > Version: 7.5.467 / Virus Database: 269.7.6/813 - Release Date: 5/20/2007 > 7:54 AM >
Guest guest
Does Medicare help you even while you are covered by a spouse's health plan? Actually, my insurance (Humana) requires that dh's Medicare pay first and be primary for him, with Humana picking up as secondary. Also, I personally think the Medicare prescription plans are awful, with those " donut " hole gaps......I haven't even signed dh up for a Medicare script plan.....if I did, then my Humana script plan wouldn't cover him either, and they pay better (well, except for the injectable meds....I guess if dh ever has to take an injectable med I'll sign him up for the Medicare plan at that point.)
