Go see someone at legal aid and they will get them kicked into gear... Otherwise

it could be long...

I applied in early March and just today I got the official written

notice that I have been approved. The local office called me about 2

weeks ago to tell me so. I am to get my first check on June 20.

Thanks, Delane. Actually, it's the Medicare I'm most interested in.

I found out that if anything happens to my husband I will have no

health insurance - so I needed to apply for SS disability so that I

can become eligible for Medicare early, just in case. Does Medicare

help you even while you are covered by a spouse's health plan? Will

it help us with the out-of-pocket expenses?

That is wonderful to hear - Thanks! I assume I will be eligible for

Medicare 24 months after my approval date for SSD?

Good! They said in the letter that they determine I became disabled

April '06. My benefits are retroactive to October '06 because you

must be disabled for 5 full months before you become eligible for

benefits. It sounds like I might become eligible for Medicare

April '08? That would be great. Between loss of income and co-pays

for treatment and meds, we can use all the help we can get.

thanks again,

sherry z

Actually, my insurance (Humana) requires that dh's Medicare pay first

and be primary for him, with Humana picking up as secondary. Also, I

personally think the Medicare prescription plans are awful, with

those " donut " hole gaps......I haven't even signed dh up for a Medicare

script plan.....if I did, then my Humana script plan wouldn't cover him

either, and they pay better (well, except for the injectable meds....I

guess if dh ever has to take an injectable med I'll sign him up for the

Medicare plan at that point.)
