ANDY - What supplements are absolutely necessary during chelation?

We are completing round 40 per your protocol with DMSA/ALA and we find that our

son no longer seems to need so many supplements anymore and in fact seems

intolerant to them. And in fact the various supplements seem to in fact cause

the very problem now that they are given to address. For example, if we

supplement zinc we get terrible mouthing and pica. B vitamins used to help him,

now they make him exceedingly hyper and less mentally coherent. He needs very

little liver support - just some milk thistle, if we give it more than twice a

day in small amounts, he gets hyper. He used to have terrible adrenal signs, and

now ACE makes him nuts, and he has no signs without it. His bowels are normal

for the first time in his four years of life and he appears to need almost no

antifungals on or off round.

We take this to mean that chelation has wrought some type of change or healing,

where his bodily processes - liver, gut etc are working better and he needs

less. Is this plausible? Oddly the body seems to function well, but language

and cognition are not where we would hope, they seem to have plateaued, whether

due to a lack of appropriate supps or to the fact that chelation brings healing

in no particular order, we cannot fathom.

Right now we give CLO for EFAs, vitamins A & D, as well as vitamins C, E and K.

We could no longer give a multi vitamin formula due to the b vitamins. As far as

minerals go, we had to stop the multi mineral formulas. He cannot tolerate zinc

anymore, chromium and never could tolerate much calcium supplementation even

though he is cf. The only mineral we give is at this point is magnesium.

Otherwise he gets milk thistle, probiotics, enzymes, acetyl carnitine, taurine,

biotin, as well as low dose lysine and virastop. This is it. He does not even

seem to need antifungals anymore. My concern is, we used to give most of the

basic recommended supps in AI, as well as a comprehensive multi vitamin and

mineral formulas. Is what we are giving enough now to support the body during

chelation? Are there any supplements, minerals in particular, that are

absolutely critical to supplement? For example, his multi used to have selenium

and potassium in it. Should we supplement these separately?

It is difficult to go from supplementing so much, to not very much. We want to

be sure we have the bases covered.

Thanks. Irene
