Hi Kim,

I have one blue and one brown eye. Never got teased at school, most thought it was pretty neat. Anyway, my ex-girlfriend's mother used to call me a syberian husky. Hope you had a nice christmas

I don't think the evidence is completely conclusie that the

preservative does irreversible damage. Although I actually did not

know until now that Nasonex had it in there, because I have been

using the saline nasal spray ENT-SOL without the preservatives.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to answer the poll because my polyps

developed so long ago, about 15 years. So it's very hard to say. I

don't know that the polyps have anything to do with the cilia

activity though -- I mean, does damaging the cilia cause polyps?

I'm not sure about this.

I remember there were different nasal sprays I used at some point,

but I don't know if they were before or after the polyps came. The

one I remember the most because it was super powerful and had this

strong smell was Decadron nasal spray, in that green gadget --

anyone remember that?

Hi Lori

I was more implicating normal functioning of sinuses messed up

because of preservatives leading to polyps (infection, swelling etc)

There might me no direct link with the preservative and polyps

but did the poll because the preservative is said to contribute to

changes to the cilia (i dont know

to what extent and if limited during period of use )and also it does

changes to the white blood cell counts in the nose that fight

infection and also it is a percusor of rhinitis medic.in saline and

over the counter drops, and also finally the benz stuff a likely

reaction in the

aspirin sensitive (OK, TBC)-

There are a lot of websites on this if you want I can send them

if interested.

You dont have to answer if you dont know first part 15 yrs is a h of

a long time. But for part 2 if

you remember having taken nasal corticosteroids and the polyps

reammerging whilst still on them, I wonder -

Hi ,

thanks for the clarification -- unfortunately I still am not sure I

can answer the question in the poll. ;) I used to think that the

nasal sprays made my polyps worse because they always made me take

the sprays after the surgery and my polyps always came back. But

then the third time I had surgery I did not take the sprays at all

even when they said to and the polyps came back very quickly. This

time I've taking Nasonex " religiously " since surgery and for the

first time using the head upside down off the bed method. I have

found the best response in my polyps that I have ever had. Sure,

they're back, but they will always come back. But they are BETTER

than before. Of course the Singulair can make a big difference,

too, and this is the first surgery I've had Singulair to take

afterwards. So it's hard to answer the question for sure. There

are too many factors for me, I think! And it also may make a

difference which spray you are on -- I personally think the Nasonex

works better for me than Flonase. And like I said in the past I

took other sprays such as Decadron.

NOt very scientific or helpful, I know, but just my experience! :)

Veri,

does not take any supplements now. After weaning off all prescription drugs she did try some though.

Hi Veri, Thought I should respond since I put up the poll; just purely based on my own curiosity :). My educational background is in nutrition and physiology (MS) and I am always interested in what others are doing to help combat their children's JIA. One of the conference break out sessions was specifically about alternative medicine and lots of supplements were discussed. Fish oil was determined to be one of the few natural supplements that did actually reduce swelling, but I wanted to see if anyone here has had a positive response. I really have no agenda in regards to the poll, just purely interest. Thanks to all that have responded! -Hadleyveristroud@... wrote: I assume that after a bit we will all be able to see the results for the question on supplements taken by our children. It did seem like maybe a "none" response could have been added to the poll for supplements. I have often had to come up with questionaires for things at work and found I forgot to add a question or response choice that may have been helpful. My son takes a multivit and additional folic acid for methotrexate side affects and he takes a calcium supplement to combat the osteopenia caused by the steriods. There are so many supplements out there that it would be hard to list them all. The poll did provide the basics and those that we hear about most often in the news.

I found it interesting in the JIA child birth order question didn't offer "only" as an option. I just put other when I responded - as is my only child. If I were answering from my ex's perspective (though not sure why I would - except to identify that does have siblings out there) - anyway from my ex's side of the famly would be the youngest or 3rd child.

I agree with this. I don't think what Hannah takes falls into any of those categories either. She takes a daily multi-vitamin with immune booster and daily glucosamine (she takes 1 tbs daily in liquid form).

Hi Ladies, I am sorry to have left out a couple good questions on the poll. As I had mentioned, it was posted purely out of my own curiosity, and in no way shape or form am I a "professional poll writer" ;). I was just putting down what I had heard about at the conference and on the web. Btw, Glucosamine was actually discussed at the JRA conference and they said it was shown helpful with osteoarthritis and not JRA, but that was that doctor's take on it. I also want to say that I don't believe we all must take vitamin supplements and this poll didn't have any agenda. A really good diet, including lots of fruits and vegetables, is always preferable (and much better utilized in the body) than taking supplements. But, like all of us, my curiosity about what is working well for others will always be a part of me ;). Thanks, HadleyBeth Yohnk

Hi Hadley,

I think your poll was fine - certainly no reason to apologize, my comments were intended to add to the discussion, not to be critical of the polls. I am interested in the outcome of many of the polls that different members come up with. I appreciate you coming up with the poll question in the first place.

Hello Sheila, just wanted to mention that there are only 2 options for times we take our dose, once and twice, I actually take mine 4 times a day?

Luv nne

I have created a new poll asking some questions about Armour. You cannot vote in this Poll through your Email message, you have to go the link there to get onto the Website.

If you are using Armour, please go and vote.

I have left this open for the moment until January 2008.

Thanks nne

I cannot alter a poll, but i can make another one and I have added more

options. I hope everybody who has voted on the previous one will answer

this one. Apologies to one and all, but we need to get this right. I

have removed the previous one.

Poll creator may be thinking of proximity to improperly disposed medical/dental

waste? I grew up (age 4-7th grade) across the street from a hospital and we

used to play in the backyard of the hospital which later became a parking lot

and helipad.

What's the point of this question? What is the threshold in miles for " near " ?
