Guest guest
I just bought some of this, very nice, we only use a portion of each packet. Another benefit is the company will work with you to get your insurance to rx the product. Free and quick shipping. Guest guest
I have to chime in again in favor of VSL#3. It is the only probiotic that I have that shows an immediate and noticeable difference. I certainly don't want to pay that much for it, but I do, because it truly works. I do divide the dosages into thirds as Duncan has suggested, and I do also add inulin periodically to foster growth. W
Guest guest
I'm glad VSL#3 worked so well, ; given the high-dose probiotic with the inulin it had better work that well for everyone. That said, we don't absolutely have to buy VSL#3 because a cheaper probiotic would work if you can find it. Make sure you have a probiotic with live cells; to duplicate what is doing, hit 150 BILLION CELLS. The dose, a third of the VSL#3 dose, might be 40-50 capsules. Some people might only go 20 capsules to save $$ but that's still a reasonably high dose. Realize that high- dosing with the inulin might only require a 10-day to two week program to elevate residential as opposed to transient probiotic count, but you would continue the inulin to keep the residents from starving out. Once the program is complete you can cheat on the diet, reduce inulin again and all that. All good, just make sure there is bifidobacteria in your selection as we know these are doing most of the work on controlling pathogens, as well as producing nearly all of the butyrate to feed the colon cells to cure leaky gut once they are established. Guest guest
It is a more potent than usual probiotic with several different strains. It has some good research behind it for Crohn's, ulcerative colitis, and pouchitis. One packet contains 240 or 260 billion live specimens, with a suggested dose of 2-3 packets per day. Guest guest
Google it and you'll find all the info about it. You can get it from several sources. The strains are also listed in it. Guest guest
www.vsl3.com You do NOT need to use 2-3 packets per day unless you suffer from Crohn's or puchitis etc. I use 1/2 packet per day. Many others use 1/3 per day effectively. It is expensive but very potent and shipped in ice packs very quickly to your home. You do have to keep it in the refrigerator. They say it will be OK for about a week at room temperature, in case you need to take it on a trip etc. For those with oxalate issues like me, it also degrades oxalates in the intestine, which helps prevent many oxalate symptoms. People who were on long-term antibiotics often lack the intestinal bacteria which degrades oxalates (oxalobacter formigenesis - not sure of the spelling). While that bacteria has not yet been able to be put in a supplement, the VSL#3 does a really good job. I had painful urination which I thought was from my candida, but it ended up being from oxalates. Now that my candida is completely gone, I still need the VSL#3 for its anti-oxalate effect. I also take the whey shake and selenuim daily. W

Guest guest
Hi, I just read an old post which mentioned that the maltose in VSL#3 is derived from barley but because it is so broken down, they can call themselves gluten free also. In addition, I read from their leaflet that it is cultured in milk. Does anyone whose kid is GFCF have problems with VSL#3? I want to try it on my son (he has high oxalates) but as he is fairly sensitive and has been GFCF for a year with good results healthwise, I am cautious in trying it for fear that it may mess his gut up and ruin the good work we have done so far. Thanks much for any input....
