There's a huge difference in the amount of Vit K1 in different foods.

Spinach is the winner by a mile. I can't find the list I developed - but

you might find it useful to check into where you get more.

Before I begin, I have included several links within the body of this

post. For what it's worth, every email I send out is scanned by NORTON'S

so everything should be perfectly safe.

At 01:09 AM 9/24/2003 -0400, you wrote:

>INTERESTING!!! A LINK BETWEEN VIT K AND JAUNDICE!! I hadn't thought of

There are two things that happen within one hour after birth by law. It

has been predetermined that parental consent is unnecessary for these

practices since it takes a village to raise a child. These two things are,

care for the child's eyes and the synthetic vitamin k injection. The

hospital charges you for these two services without your consent and never

shares with the parents/customers the benefits -vs- the side

effects. Imagine that!!

For the eyes, silver nitrate used to be applied directly into the eyes.

This not only is painful, but also adds a little more trauma to the

unnatural situation of modern childbirth. Btw, I understand the grounds

that this practice became law was due to the chance that, although the

mother was tested on her last visit to the doctor, she may have contracted

syphilis during that last week of her pregnancy which presents the

possibility of passing it on to the child while making it's short journey

through the birth canal. The chances of you passing syphilis to your child

and she losing her sight is why this should be administered without

parental consent says the hospital. They do not bother to ask what the

chances of you having sex with a person carrying syphilis are. For you

husbands out there this should idea should be hysterically laughable.

Much can be said about the VK injection. Here is a very informative link

that will open eyes. There are so many! Ohhh! BTW, the doctors of course

have there own language to keep us peons at bay, but with the birth of the

Internet, we simpletons are catching on. Nevertheless, if you simply do

searches on jaundice, you will continually reach the same 10-15 sites, but

if you use their code word, " HYPERBILIRUBINEMIA " you will find all kinda

stuff that we are not supposed to find. LIKE:

" When this has been mentioned before on the list, some members have been

quick to jump in and say that these studies are not to be believed. I

personally think that since hemorrhagic disease of the newborn is so much

less common than childhood cancers (as well as **hyperbilirubinemia**,

another result of vit K injection) that vitamin K should probably not be

used except perhaps in the event of a traumatic birth that may have caused

injuries that could lead to hemorrhage. "

(**emphasis mine)

Go to the following site scroll down to side effects and you will find that

a high dosage (that is what they are given), can result in

hyperbilirubinemia or jaundice.

http://www.mdadvice.com/library/vita/vitamin76.html

The following site will inform you according to the way the hospital wants

one to be educated concerning Jaundice. The site is informative showing

that almost 80% of births experience some amount of jaundice, yet the fact

that almost 100% of births are given VitaK is never mentioned. Wonder why?

Hmm? Most parents never even know their child was injected with the

synthetic foreign substance.

http://www.medstudents.com.br/pedia/pedia3.htm

One more, I am sorry if I am boring you at this point, but this is an

important one. This is an essay that was used as evidence by a NY

congressman to repeal the state law regarding VitaK. What do you think the

outcome was? I don't know, but I do know that VitaK is a " no questions

asked, BIG money maker for the Industry " . Here is the site:

http://home.att.net/~waterbird/

We recently had a baby and asked that she not be given the shot. We found

that this was a matter that we would have to take up with the Pediatrician.

He had no problem, just sign right here ma'am and with a signature and a

short warning there were no more questions asked. We had decided if there

were any trauma during birth that we might reconsider, but all went well

and she's as perfect as can be.

This is enough for now, but I will share with you a little theory that we

have in a post to come.

Lauri,

1. What is this shot for?

It is to prevent hemorrhagic disease of the newborn, though it is fairly

rare. Vit K is made in the gut, but only after the newborn starts to ingest

food (milk) and enough bacteria is present to start the process. It

normally peaks on about the 8th day. In a few newborns, either the mother

did not eat enough of this vitamin to give her child some prenatally or they

suffer from not being able to produce it sufficiently in their own bodies.

It is a very serious situation, if that happens. But it doesn't happen very

often.

4. What are the alternatives?

Many natural practitioners are administering oral Vit. K instead of the

injections. It goes into the intestine, where it is naturally manufactured,

and does not seem to be associated with the increased incidence of childhood

cancers. You can purchase it directly from one company that I know of or

from a midwifery supply company:

it+K+1+%29%2DSciencific+Laboratories%2Dthis+is+the+one+for+your+newborn

I don't have the research available to answer your other questions.

Hi Laurie,

Here are some links for you to read about vit K:

http://www.babyreference.com/VitaminKinjectORnot.htm

http://www.drfeder.com/children/vitaminK-newborns.htm

http://www.cps.ca/english/statements/FN/fn97-01.htm

http://health.consumercide.com/vitK-rothwell.html

The shot is to prevent bleeding, especially bleeding into the brain,

from a rare disorder called newborn hemorrhagic disease. An

alternative to the injection is to administer vit K drops orally. The

oral drops are not FDA approved in the USA, so this is not a method

most health care providers in the US will offer, but the oral

administration is used by medical facilities in other countries. In

the US if you decide to use oral drops, you would need to refuse the

shot in the hospital (if you are in a hospital) and buy the vit K

drops and administer them yourself. This is what we chose for our

second child. I bought the drops from www.motherlove.com .

Anyone here using Vitamin K for their kids? I am just learning about it and

wondering if anyone has had success with it.

For those who are using it, are you giving it with Vitamin D and Calcium?

Thanks!

Here's a link to the Vitamin K Group. A PDF version of the K2 Protocol is

Jan,

Do u have any links for information you found helpful on vitamin k?

[ ] Re: Vitamin K?

I guess it would depend upon what your looking to see with it.

We use it, both kids take 1 mg a day with Calcium and D. And for us it has

strengthened teeth and keeps them from bruising too easily.

I have visited the Vitamin K group some years back, still a member but I did

not see anyone recovering their kids with the high doses of K, so I did not

stick around long. Just like the sensory group and the list of others I belong

too...also not seeing much results there.

After reading there and lingering a while, I decided to give my kids normal

doses of K to help strengthen their enamel, as part of our attempt to

remineralize their teeth. (It worked...we used K, D, Calcium and high vitamin

CLO).

As for what K does for autism....I was not able to find anything convincing. It

is important for bones and many other body functions, so worth supplementing a

deficient child/person...

This was just our experience. I have had the kids on K for 2 years.
