Guest guest
Hi Jeanette, I'm glad to hear that the shark liver oil won't have any harmful interactions with the medications prescribed by Diego's doctors. It's always a good idea to check, even when a supplement seems quite healthy and harmless. I've learned through experience. My children's father is very into homeopathic medicines and wanting to do what was best for Josh when he was very sick, he wanted Josh to take, among other things, echinacea drops. He uses that daily, as well as Tiger Balm, ginger extract and goldenseal. All very safe remedies, for most people. At least for healthy, unmedicated people. Unfortunately, echinacea can interfere with the disease modifying properties of methotrexate. We might have never known. The product itself, Nature's Answer (For Kids) E-Kid-Nacea Herbal Extract claims to be a holistically balanced extract of organically grown whole plant Echinacea (Echinacea purpurea) and wildcrafted root Echinacea angustifolia (1:4) in a base of coconut glycerin and natural citric acid (from casava root). Sounds harmless to me. Sounds very healthful to others. No where in their literature did it even mention the possibility of a harmful interaction with other drugs. In some states, their failure to inform me of that fact constitutes fraud. I remember a while back when the big craze was not shark liver oil but shark cartilege. There were all sorts of unfounded claims being made about it. Sounded too good to be true. And then, when testing was actually done, turns out most claims WERE too good to be true! Most people were ingesting it in capsule form. Our digestive juices were disintegrating most of the product before it even had a chance to do anything helpful, even if it could have. It didn't hold up in arthritis studies or in cancer studies, and it had been hailed as a curative for both! Many companies that sell these sorts of products have learned a lot from the legal repurcussions they've faced. After fines and restitutions were payed, they've changed the way they market. Most, now, is done through multi level marketing. The labels, by law, can't list all the things they claim it's good for, unless proven. But the pamphlets still can! Even at major retail stores like GNC (General Nutrition Centers) they get around the legal consumer protection loopholes by having a small computer at the stores where customers can look up the products sold there and the ailments that can be treated with them. Even if it's false or unproven information. It's incredible. And they don't even let people know, a lot of times, if there can be dangerous interactions with commonly prescribed meds. Important things that sometimes aren't so easy to find out about. I'm glad that a reputable doctor was willing to take the time to consult with you about using these supplements. I think we can assume that even if a product doesn't have any healing properties, if a person believes strongly enough that it will be helpful, they'll attribute positive benefits to it. A placebo effect. Just like some people believe that wearing copper bracelets will be helpful to their arthritis symptoms. The bracelets haven't held up in arthritis pain studies but plenty people still believe the folk lore and continue spending $20 for a metal bracelet. Once they've spent that money, people may think they're somewhat foolish, unless they report that it's working for them, right? I'm sorry. I apologize for feeling so adamantly about this topic. I just wish that the alternative health products were regulated in a manner similar to prescription medications. Double blind, controlled studies would help convince me. Consistency in dosing would help, too. For now, it's usually very irregular. Responsibility on the part of the manufacturers and distributors to provide complete, accurate and truthful information to the general public would help, too. Still, I'm not opposed to people using whatever products they feel are helpful to them. I'm just tired of hearing testimonials, stories about how wonderful this or that product is, and then not being able to see any actual raw data to back up the claims. At least I can read plenty about the results, both pro and con, that have been found in the studies done on the drugs that I allow my son to take. Please don't take this the wrong way. I know it's because you're a very kind, caring and thoughtful person that you even investigated this avenue. And for some, it may seem like a wonderful option. Hopefully to be used in conjunction with, and not as an alternative to, the regular meds. Right now I'm digesting material about magnets, noni juice, vinegar and honey, green lipped mussels AND shark liver oil. And the principal at Josh's school has yet another very helpful remedy he wants to tell me about. I've been hearing so much about these different types of alternative and supplemental treatments for the past 4 years. As you can imagine, I'm a little bit wary. It's somewhat comforting to see the doctors and pharmacist, get a comprehensive printout about uses, side effects and interactions and be able to sit down and discuss, have my questions answered fully. I'm still open minded, just sometimes somewhat overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of alternative remedies that exist :-) Lots of love and Aloha, Georgina jeanette wrote: > Hi Georgina, > doesn't have to worry about the cost of the shark liver oil and > drops, it was a gift given in the spirit of helping Diego. Guest guest
Thank you!! I've been wondering if one of the vendors on amazon.com would be interested in carrying all of the supplements you recommend, bundling them and shipping them at once to customers while providing you credit. It would be a huge convenience for your members (getting everything at once from one source and save shipping! Just a thought... Guest guest
Hi Bee, After ordering some supplements today, I decided to type up a list of supplements and write that supplier and ask them if they would bundle them for the members. I just spoke to them on the phone and they are working on it. Once they put together the costs, I will e-mail it to you to confirm it's accurate. You would get credit toward each bundle purchased if this goes through. Hope you don't mind me taking the initiative... Guest guest
It is a brand new bottle. They are gel caps. I gave it for 3 days and she is pinning me up against walls. This same thing happens with cod liver oil, and flax seed oil. I take her off of it and she stops being impulsive and attacking. Guest guest
It says this shark liver oil has vitamin E in it. I guess to preserve it, like you mentioned. This happened with my son and quite a few supplements. If he no longer needed the supp, it would generally cause the same problems that initially it resolved. If he still needed the supp, but it was now starting to cause problems, that meant his body was depleted of the other nutrients that the supp required for proper absorption. For your EFA example, this would have meant that the nutrients in mito cocktail had been depleted, and I needed to add them as supps before continuing with the EFA.
