Guest guest
Our 5 y/o son has an IEP with no mention of PDD-NOS or Autism, the school district--Bethlehem PA only has a typical K class with dedicated learning support(master's level thankfully) for our son. In July when we had initial IEP meetings, our private OT and Speech had written 2 page narratives on why our son would benefit from a full day K. Half special needs for behavior, ot, speech and the remaining day in his typical k class with support. SD makes mention that the only full day class is on S. Bethlehem for the Social Economic disadvantaged. They said it was paid for by a grant. Btw--We are still waiting for the SD's testing of our son's OT and Speech.....we had this in July from our private ot and speech! It's Thanksgiving already! We have not gotten our Special Needs lawyer involved....yet. **We live near NJ and have considered moving to NJ cause: PA's Provider 50 is no help for Mildly Autistic kids--Our son speaks pretty well but still stims a bit and needs more behavior mod--we never were able to find ABA, Verbal Behavior so GFCF, prayers, modeling...by my wife and our all the services for our son. The Provider 50 services have always just done remedial work, no aba, modeling.....maybe we dropped the ball and need to micromanage the BSC and TSS? We have some local family members but we receive no help except the few yearly visits....our fault? Most PA schools have the same IU/Typical class with not much in the middle. We have heard NJ schools move mountains for kids with Special Needs. We are looking into the Milestone School near us. Any suggestions/critiques..... very welcomed! -Rikko Bethlehem PA Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!
