L-Tyrosine was one of the supplements that got me back onto the road of

recovery from 18 months of a fatigue prolem (which was made worse by

stress). The other supplement that helped mainly from the stress point

was Rhodiola. Both these are available in Dr D's Catechol but I found

them to work better when taken separately. Just my experience.

Gaye,

I also am hypothyroid. I'm on Levoxyl, and also take raw whole desiccated

borine thyroid to boost all the other thyroid homones. I'm changing to

another endocrinologist, as I am surrounded by allopathic docters, one of

whom stated to me that he " didn't believe in taking vitamins " . an excellent

site for thyroid disfunction sufferers is:

http://thyroid.about.com

Lot's of useful info, and also a great message board.

going to happen to me! I have found a natural liquid supplement that

is helping people reduce and get off thyroid meds....except my mom

because she doesn't believe in natural, holistic healing. What can

you do!? I am not a scammer or anything so if you want info just

That is correct but his T4 sounds high. What is the reference range for that?

Also was his Free T3 run? That is the only # that was off for me and my

daughter.

I've got a thyroid question to piggy back if I may. My daughter is on Thyroid

meds and needs to take them 4 hours away from calcium and a few other things.

(I'm drawing a blank) If I give minerals 4x a day when can I give those meds?

I've been trying to get her to take it sublingually but she won't go for it.

Also I know I feel much better taking my thyroid meds first thing in the am.

I'm sure there are other meds like this as well. How do people resolve this for

their kids?

Thanks.

Hi Patty,

Thanks for answering .The lab did not run T3 and I am upset at that. I need to

research more on the T4 following your email below.

How often do you need to give thyroid medication during the day, for oyur

daughter ? If it makes you feel good to take it in the morning, chances are it

will do the same for your precious one.

I'm pretty sure you need to make sure they have the right reference

range as well - it's different for children compared to adults.

It can be tricky fitting everything in - the problem is that Calcium and

Iron particularly, also coffee and phytates will bind to or block

absorption of the Thyroid meds. The most important thing is to be

consistant about when it is taken compared to the other substances so

that you get as consistant an amount of the Thyroid meds absorbed as

possible. Not all of it will be blocked, so you go for a consistant

amount of it being blocked and work with symptoms and blood tests that

apply to what you are doing. Eg if you always take the thryoid med with

your coffee in the morning you won't be absorbing as much as you could

absorb if you take it without the coffee - but because you do it

everyday in the same way, you get a consistant amount, so you work with

that.

The other place to focus if you want to maximise dose absorption is to

take it about 45min to an hour before the problem substance so that it's

all absorbed first - also 4 hours after is a bit extreme, I've mostly

heard 3 hours after for the blocking/binding substances.

The way you read thyroid is different from the way you read other

labs. The higher the number, the lower the levels. The lower the

number, the higher the levels. A TSH of 3.36 to me would be too low.

Myself and my son are both on thyroid (and our dog, too!) and most

people function best around the 1 mark (I personally function best

with an even lower number). Now this is for T3 so I'm not entirely

sure of where the best functioning is with TSH. Here's what I do

know: make sure you see a doc that knows about hormones. Can't

stress this enough. If I took my thyroid labs to my gp I would leave

being told I don't need thyroid. To a gen pract., if you fall within

range you are fine. Not the case at all. There is an optimum

functioning level and someone that knows about thyroid will know this.
