Guest guest Posted March 28, 2003 Report Share Posted March 28, 2003 Maya`s T cells are low, can`t remember the exact numbers but they are measured differently in the UK. She is outside the normal range for T cells and helper T cells. Her white cell count is low but the other IG`s are in the normal range. In Feb she had quite a bad upper respiratory infection and her wbc was practically nil. It has come up but still not normal and she is due to have the test repeated some time next week if I can get hold of her paediatrician!! Her problems are the upper respiratory infections and when she was a baby she had many bouts of thrush. She is on a prophylactic antibiotic which was stopped last summer but is now back on it because she had lots of infections over the summer. Maya`s development was delayed but she is now normal in every way, apart from doing jigsaws which could be because she doesn`t have normal thumbs. I found all the requirements for medical treatment visa only I have to put together all this information and she can apply to the U.S. embassy in Peru. she has to present: Document where indicate that the treatment she requires is not available in Peru A physician or hospital in the U.S. has to agreed to accept her case for treatment The estimated cost of the planned course of treatment Her financial ability to cover this cost. They're very well known for their research on all types of hearing loss and the doctor's have been doing CI's for a long time; have published tons of papers and are very experienced. I've seen a surgeon at House Ear and have decided to pursue my implant quest there. I have my complete evaluation at the end of March. I was very impressed with the Dr.'s credentials and expertise and feel I am going with one of the best!! I'm an adult and just started learning sign. (Lost my hearing completely overnight a few months ago, was normal hearing before.) Although I'm hoping to get the CI, I know I'm still deaf and am very impressed with the language, the expressive art, and plan on pursueing my interest in learning sign. I think it's wonderful if your daughter could be bi-linqual in both languages. I've read about alot of " hearing schools " that have sign language in their curriculum now for young hearing children as well. Good luck to Maya and your family.
