Guest guest
thanks Kat. I had Lyme in 98 and was treated for no more than 3 weeks with doxy. I developed fibromylagia and it seems to be getting worse each yr. I only have myalgia body wide and fatigue. Muscle pain and burning. > > > In a message dated 11/26/2005 2:19:16 A.M. I hope you are having co-infection tests as well. VERY improtant to treat babesia before the Bb if you have it. Igenex only has two tests for babesia and there are 30 different strains, maybe more. My Doc gave me a clinical diag for babesia. I had the shaking chills fever and gasping for air at night, Thank God after four years she was on to it and I am now being properly treated. Later we will go back and tackle the Bb. Babesia interacts with Bb and prevents bb from being killed off. Let us know how the results go. Best wishes to you for better health. And hang in there
Guest guest
On and off for years Igenex has been hassled by various California entities including the Laboratory accreditation and Licensing Boards. They are also hassled by other state boards, Drs etc. Its the same old song of " too many Lyme diagnoses " that currently plague some of our best Lyme experienced Drs...ridiculous!!!- would a cardiologist be blamed for having or diagnosing too many " heart disease " patients??? All accusations against Igenex have so far been unfounded and as far as I know ( up until last month when we had my son's bloods sent there) they still have a very valid license, a very valid testing protocol and therefore a valid result basis. Often these are rumors, or " old news " . The best advice I can give is to phone them directly. In the past many years ( I want to say at least 10, but can only remember back about 7-8 years) my LLMD's have used them and I personally have spoken to them...theyve always been honest and open about who was " investigating " them and why and even the outcomes!!! Years ago I and my physician at the time personally had phone conversations with Nick ...nice guy, truly wants to help the Lyme community and is VERY careful to not do anything to harm his credibility!!! If you want to know more about the company and/or contact them here is their website: http://www.igenex.com/about.htm [ ] Igenex Hi there, A friend of mine was told by her doctor that Igenex Lab is now being investigated because it has 'too many positive results for Lyme tests'. If anyone is aware of this investigation, I'd love to know more about what's going on. My friend was asking to be tested for Lyme and have it sent to Igenex when her doctor told her this and I'd like to be able to tell her if it is really even happening, and why. Thanks, Patty from MD
Guest guest
Dear Patty, I have been told of several investigation's done to Igenex labs, to my knowalge every time they were cleared of any possable problems or wrong doing's. I too have 2 doctor's that do not trust them and do not believe thier testing. On the other hand these 2 doc's also do not believe that lyme is in our state and told me they think that Igenrx is an undergound basement operation and I am being scammed. This is far from the trueth, Patty I trust Igenex with my health testing and my son's. I also would trust Bowen, maybe your friend could request them. All doc's that are not LLMD's have a contract with a certain lab, if our test is sent to these labs you are waisting your time. I hope this helps, this is probably just the beginning of the problems and ignorance she will see with having this disease and the fact that it is still not reconized as the serious disease it is. I wish her luck, and God Bless. > > Hi there, > > A friend of mine was told by her doctor that Igenex Lab is now being investigated because it has 'too many positive results for Lyme tests'. Guest guest
My understanding is that Igenex was under investigation early last year (2005) for having too many positive Lyme test, however they were given re-certification in September 2005 by CLIA who issues certificates of compliance. A copy of the certification is available at the link below. The website is by Schaller, MD. He is currently co-writing a book with Dr. on Pediatric Lyme. Your friend can print out the certificate and take it to her MD. http://www.personalconsult.com/CLIA.pdf If you can't open this link, you can cut and paste it inot your browser. Guest guest
Hi I know nothing about Igenex, but my partner was terribly sleepy when he went through the herx effect, he also went through a period of forgetfulness. I hope that helps a little Tracey teresa91567 <teresa91567@...> wrote: Does anyone know how long it usually takes for results to come back from Igenex ? and if extreme fatigue which I never had before can be a sign of a herx effect thanks
Guest guest
i think usually 2-3 weeks and yes, extreme fatigue and everyother symptom intensified is a sign of herx, unfortunately thats how you know that the abxs are working. hang in there. teresa91567 <teresa91567@...> wrote: Does anyone know how long it usually takes for results to come back from Igenex ? and if extreme fatigue which I never had before can be a sign of a herx effect thanks

Guest guest
the so called " trouble " is that Nick ( Pres of Igenex) had been investigated for having so many " positive " results--and it was as unfair as asking a cardiologist why so many of HIS patients have heart failure or heart problems at all!! After EVERY routine state and fed check and inspection?( ALL medical labs must undergo regulatory checks of equipment and standards etc) Igenex came up perfectly clean!!! The RUMORS that still abound stem from those in the IDSA community trying to discredit any/all labs with a high rate of positives as it makes them look foolish and even negligent when their policy is that Lyme is easily treated/cured, is almost never long term and NEVER chronic as there cant be persistence of organisms after abx ...well, this is all DESPITE good scientific evidence to the contrary. Almost all insurance companies will reimburse but as theyre not " in netwrok " ( meaning they refuse to sign a contract stating theyll accpet a mere $100 for a test costing $500 to run, and be under the frankly retarded guidelines of the insurance companies)--they get paid " out of network " which means you get less back and its based upon some arbitrary " acceptable and cutomary rate " that makes me laugh as their acceptable customary rates for any routine Dr visit averages $65-$85--and in the NYC/NJ area too!! --whens the last time your family Dr charged that???? heck I cant get a HAIRCUT for that LOL--so of course when they see a $300 bill from a LLMD theyll discount it to maybe a specialist rate of $95 then give the 50-70% of the out of network amt back.doing the math--you get about $65 from a $300 charge!! WOW PLUS be aware?many of the?tests are serial--meaning they have to go thru 3-4 of the same steps one after the other--unfortunately the codes for all of the steps is the same BUT to the retarded insurance company it " looks " like the same tests were repeated 3-4 times and theyll say " sorry we wont pay for repeated or duplicated tests " this again despite Igenex always including an explanation of how the tests must be run. So when you see a far lesser amount on your EOB ( insurance explanation) call them and insist a supervisor investigates why all the steps werent paid for!! Guest guest
I would mind getting this test with IGENEX. Is it something a ped can do? Mine is really open to any testing I want to do. We are coming up a school physicals and that is something I wouldn't mind checking. Thanks Tammy
Guest guest
IGENEX has a website and the basic lyme test is $280, the one with the coinfections is around $600. We are doing the basic and figuring out our coinfections by symptoms. I think your ped can do it, just ask that they not use the typical hospital test, because that only catches 8% of lyme disease. We did our testing through a naturopath because in Kansas they are putting lyme disease doctors in prison. This is for giving lyme patients antibiotics for over six weeks, which is all that the insurance companies want to pay for. I encourage everyone to watch the movie " Under our Skin " to understand more about the politics about lyme, and once I understood that it made it easier for me to navigate through all of the lyme information and made me better able to separate facts from fiction. > > > > I would mind getting this test with IGENEX. Guest guest
Bridget, Don't worry about having started the doxy. Many LLMD's actually have their patients START antibiotics for 2-3 weeks before ordering the Igenex test: it's called a challenge test, the idea being that the antibiotics start killing off some lyme and then the dead material triggers an immune response (although some people will persistently fail to mount an immune response anyway and therefore the antibodies aren't there to be registered for a positive test: this is called seronegative lyme if you are diagnosed based on clinical symptoms but with a negative lyme test).
