Guest guest
One last thing no one mentioned... old vinyl mini blinds. The older blinds had lead in them and the sun deteriorates the blinds and then the dust contains the lead. If a child were to put their hand on the blind and then stick their fingers in their mouth, that could account for a high lead count. Also, I didn't see anyone answer your question about where to get the kits. I have purchased them at Home Depot and I'm sure Lowe's and other major dept. stores would have them too. The only thing is, I've read that they can be inaccurate. Tests for lead in water can be found online also. > > My 11 month old just had her blood level of lead tested and it came back high (the test was done by her allopath pediatrician). I have no idea where it's coming from. We live in a house built in the 1980's so no lead paint. We eat off of glass dishes etc. She does sleep in a room which is adjacent to a gas burner and hot water heater. Would that cause any of this? She is also on supplments, do those contain lead? My lead levels were fine. I am really frightened. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Christie > > >

Guest guest
The tests at the pedis. are often false positives. They should be offering you a second, more sensitive test - these usually come back much lower (and are more accurate). Guest guest
How high? Sometimes these " levels " are arbitrarily chosen. Was it from the finger prick? My second son had the finger prick and it came back high. I don't think they washed the hand off--just pricked away (the ped was the one who pointed that out later!). He subsequently had a blood test done from the arm that came back fine. I don't know what to make of it except that I generally don't trust screening tests. Guest guest
Hi Christie, I think I remember seeing a list of supplements containing lead on the FDA page. Sorry, I don't have the link. Maybe you could search " FDA and lead containing supplements " . Was the test hard on your baby. How did she do? Maybe, you could bring her in to someone else and test again. what made the doctor request that type of test? we have a gas furnace and purchased a gas detector. Our inspector told us we had a small leak so, after it was fixed, we ran out and bought one. I don't think that the gas would have anything to do with lead, However. Also...you can search for lead in toys on the net. Some sites have a list of lead containing toys. I think there are home kits for lead testing, too. .. not sure how well they work. I would stop the vitamins until you know more. I understand your concern, but maybe the test was wrong. Don't panic....get her tested again by someone else. If it is the case, the people on this list will help you. They are very knowledgeable. Could you find a homeopath? Wish you the best of luck correy On Jan 26, 2009, at 1:22 PM, Dawn wrote: > What about her toys? Guest guest
hi winnie, as always, your insight is great. it came back at 7.7 it was through a toe prick. we had blood drawn from the arm this evening and will probably get results in the next few days. I am wondering, i give our dd epsom salt baths, wonder if that would bring toxins to the surface and the prick test picked that up...just a thought. thanks, christie Re: lead > Vaccinations > > > My 11 month old just had her blood level of lead tested and it > > came back high (the test was done by her allopath > pediatrician). > > I have no idea where it's coming from. Guest guest
I believe the imported, older vinyl mini-blinds are the ones with lead in them. Here's a good article, and on the last page there are a few good links to different sites. http://parenting.ivillage.com/baby/bsafety/0,,429c,00.html > > From: J lessard <jlessard1@...> > Subject: Re: RE: Re: lead > Vaccinations > Date: Tuesday, January 27, 2009, 4:58 AM > > > > > > > There shouldn't be 10 allowed on lead tests. There should be a trace or nothing. I don't know why they allow 10 to be " safe " . Lead harms undeveloped brains 4 times as bad as an adult's brain. They realy need to lower the " safe " level to 0. My daughter's lead level was quite elevated when she was a baby- 17, 12, 7, 5, 2, then not traceable in blood tests. She was diagnosed with autism. She holds at not being on the board for lead anymore but this should be considered a very important priority for you. Do you have plastic mini-blinds? They also contain lead. Adequate intake of magnesium & calcium & zinc can push out the lead called passivation. Selenium then binds to lead. When there is room for the lead to move in, I always question a child's nutritional status. Guest guest
Is it peeling or mostly sanded flat? If it is peeling, I don't know what I would do, probably try to put wallpaper on it to see if it would stick. If it is flat, this is what I would do. First, I would hire someone to professionally clean the home while I am not there - including cleaning the heating/air conditioning ducts. I would buy some primer and paint over it, then put on two or three coats of high gloss paint. Make sure you wear a good mask and your children are out of the house when you or whoever does it. Then, when it is finished, take the best quality caulk (latex?) and caulk around all the seams/edges/floorboards. This will keep the paint from chipping around the edges. Honestly, if I had the money, I would have it professionally cleaned again when I was done to make sure all the dust is gone that could have been disturbed from the painting. If you have preferences for cleaning supplies that are environmentally and people safe/natural, then you could provide them to the cleaners to use. > > I bought a lead test yesterday from B & Q (we are in the UK) to check our flat. Guest guest
Stripping it does not remove the lead from the wood. You'd have to either repaint them all using a primer and then a good quality semi gloss to seal the lead in, or have the woodwork replaced completely with new wood. (Lead is a Silent Hazard book) The gal who used heat to remove the paint has lead poisoning now because she vaporized the lead paint and any sanding she did released lead dust into the flat. According to the research I did on lead removal and lead contamination stripping the paint does not remove the lead from the wood. This is why those test strips are turning pink. Rather than it being just dust. If it were just dust then you could clean the wood and redo the strip and it would not turn pink. But I bet it will. 1884 leaves many many years of lead paint soaking into the lumber. Your options are to move or have all that wood painted or replaced. And then have the flat tested by a Lead specialist. Or move. Is that possible for you to move? I mean if you wish to get the kids lead free anyway. Since your child got worse after moving there.....I beleive there is a lead problem. It will be like climbing uphill to chelate them if they are just getting more lead every day. Do they have a Lead prevention program in where you live? This is where they come and test and then abate the lead. I don't know if they have that in the UK like we do here. Sorry, wish I had better news. > > > > > I bought a lead test yesterday from B & Q (we are in the UK) to check our flat. I had not expected to find anything but I got just one just in case. Guest guest
quick thoughts...painting over works short term. wet dusting for cleaning, a " wet " vacuum, if possible. lead absorbed easily by injestion, not so much by skin. Chelation should be fine. Our combating lead range of foods include(d) things like romaine, peanut butter, canteloupe, green beans, lemon water - lemonade, no sugar Things like green leafies, proteins, calcium rich foods, vit C foods. We also had things like Vit E & milk thistle that we took/take regularly & often. Cadmium is synergistic. Zinc is now on my list of " lead " related things to do, also. pumpkin seeds, sunflowers seeds. Avocados have appreciable amounts of vit E, among other things. elizabeth > > I bought a lead test yesterday from B & Q (we are in the UK) to check our flat. Guest guest
My little grandson was in the same predicament at ~2y His folks were rehabing an old house with lots of stripping, sanding etc. so he was rolling, crawling learning to walk through the mess. His mom, my daughter, took him in for blood levels as he was not yet talking well - some speech but very slushy. He also had toe walking, spinning, 'deafness' and yet acutely sensitive hearing at times, tactile sensitivity, chronic ear infections etc. His lead levels were tested over a period of time[public health folks got involved] and ranged from 25-50; nl = under 10]. They were advised to stop all work that would put the lead airborne, to paint over everything, seal the wood that they had stripped. They, like you, lived with wood floors. She damp mopped them daily as well as damp wiping furniture, woodwork etc. The floors were eventually refinished and sealed well. He spent lots of time w grandma while they were doing the major work. This little guy's hair test was highly positive for mercury toxicity too. My daughter implemented some of the same biomedical I had been doing with her younger sister for him- supps and chelation w dmsa. He also benefited by an early intervention speech program. Thankfully, he was a quick responder. Today at 9y, he is articulate, funny, kind, smart and friendly. He began K w no one the wiser and has needed no classroom interventions. She began the chelation while they were living there. She also stopped all immunizations at about 18mos at her mom's urging. He was very far 'behind' on the schedule for them as he was always sick and had a doc who would not vac a sick child! He's the one whose younger brother, 7y now, has had NO vaccines and has been a healthy child since day one. > > I bought a lead test yesterday from B & Q (we are in the UK) to check our flat. Guest guest
Their mineral deficiencies often cause them to eat things that aren't edible (like paint chips and dirt). I know of a few people whose kids grew up on the island of Oahu, Hawaii like mine and they all have speech problems and they are all aggressive or have been aggressive/combative. In the last 7 years or so they have been tearing down old housing and putting up new stuff. Almost positive the old had lead paint. Mine had paint chips all over just cause it constantly flaked off. Guest guest
Does anyone know what supplements to give a child that has lead in their system? I heard once that lead can inhibit serotonin levels and cause these kiddos to act impulsively which i definitely see in my little girl. I've heard of 5htp helping this but don't know what dose. Right now she takes Vitamin B6, zinc, magnesium, and vit. c. Any info on what else I should be giving her would be greatly appreciated! Guest guest
An 'old timey " method I use with my husband is Bragg's vinegar = 2 Tbls in 6 oz of spring water along with 2 Tbls of powered greens mixed in, once or twice a day. This I'm told is a method used by a military Dr. It works for us for the heavy metals and mercury........ You might want to look into the www.iodine also. Guest guest
Yes, actually, we do chelate every other weekend following the Cutler protocol. I'm actually looking for something that i can give her on a daily basis to control impulsive behaviors (she likes to open the fridge and cupboards all day long and get into things that she shouldn't). Also, it is very hard to explain anything to her, she seems to look right through me when I talk to her. So until we get the lead out, I would just really love to help my little girl get some control. She has behavioral therapist, tss, and mobile therapist but none seem to help. > > > > > > why are a lot of our kids high in lead, if there is no lead in the vaccines? > > > > > > > > > > > > >

Guest guest
Mine has lead and we went through a rough time when he was very impulsive. When we went out to eat, he would push or throw dishes off the table and break them; he would hit or kick people in public without any reason or warning; he would push little kids down...it was horrible. The impulsivity was related to gluten intolerance for my son. The other poster said that a seizure drug helped with the behavior and gluten intolerance/celiac disease is often related to seizure activity. So, we modified his diet (got him off gluten, dairy and other things that bothered him) and we did about 15 rounds of chelation before the impulsivity was completely gone. One thing that helped his eye contact and awareness was MB-12. You can give this as an injection or a lozenge that is placed under the tongue. Before I used the injections, I used to crush the lozenges and rub it under his tongue and hold my finger there so it would absorb for a little bit before I let him away. (it would be hard to let the whole thing dissolve which is how it is supposed to be done). > > > > > > > > why are a lot of our kids high in lead, if there is no lead in the vaccines? > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
